Albireon - Mr. Nightbird Hates Blueberries
(Old Europa Café: OECD132)
 |
A dark comedy or a folk drama about drunk birds, mocking spiders, empty bottles and lost souls.Starring David E. Williams, Lloyd James, Sonne Hagal, Future Whirl, Die Weisse Rose.A strange manuscript, telling a tale about some bizarre characters, found somewhere in a forgotten cellar and hidden by countless broken bottles, was the inspiring spark for this dark comedy or folk drama-as the subtitles suggest-set to music in order to show how love can be a faint illusion and the deepest of all wounds. For this decadent party, recorded between late 2008 to early 2010 and graced by great emotional neo folk ballads and more experimental gloomy soundscapes, Albireon invited some very selected guests to share this tasty blueberries’ cake and offer the album a different palette of vocal nuances and a multinational coven of damned artists’ parade.American songwriter-genious David E. Williams, UK’s finest minstrel Lloyd James of Naevus, german neo folk leading act Sonne Hagal, Norwegian/american highly talented artist Future Whirl (formerly Oberon) and the new martial heroes Die Weisse Rose are the selected guests of Mr. Nightbird’s party. These great artists offered a priceless contribution to Albireon’s music and lyrics, and perfectly painted the sad main character, in his struggling pilgrimage toward love, loss, forgiveness and rebirth, but all seen through the drunk eye of the mocking spiders. And after all, you now may be guessing why Mr.Nightbird hates blueberries?Listen to the album and find out why!. $14.50

Allerseelen - Rauhe Schale
(Ahnstern: Ahnstern44)
 |
"Rauhe Schale" ('Rough Shell') is the brand new album from Austrian legends Allerseelen, which fascinates musically as well as visually. Everything moves and flows in a field of force between industrial, metal, folklore and pop. Lovers of bands like Einstürzende Neubauten, Laibach or Underworld could also fall in love with Allerseelen. Gerhard Hallstatt sometimes describes his music as Electronic Folklore or Apocalyptic Rock. But basically there is no real description for Allerseelen - all attempts to find an expression for their music may be valid for some time, yet lose their meaning after a couple of months or years. The songs were inspired by various magical mystery tours in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia. Gerhard is assisted here by Dimo Dimov (Svarrogh, Miel Noir, Sturmpercht), Marcel P. (Sagittarius, Halgadom), Meri Tadic (Eluveitie) and Annabel Lee (Blood Axis). 70 mins. of music in a digipak with booklet.. $14.33

Arcana - The First Era 1996-2002 4CD Boxset
(Cyclic Law: 27th Cycle)
 |
Very few bands evoke such awe and inspiration than this Swedish act driven by the now legendary talent of Peter Bjärgö. ARCANA have been pillars and always at the forefront of the so called Neo Classical / Heavenly Voices movement with their poignant, ethereal and medieval inspired music since their very first album, Dark Age Of Reason was released in 1996 on Sweden's Cold Meat Industry label on which they subsequently released 3 other albums, Cantar De Procella (1997) ...The Last Embrace (2000) and Inner Pale Sun (2002) making ARCANA one of the most regarded and praised act on the label. Sorrowful strings, Doomsday horns and trumpets, massive percussion and snares, bells, Dulcimer all interlaced with exquisite Male and Female voices create a quite singular atmosphere of grandeur and of melancholy for times long gone... ARCANA's music leaves hardly no one indifferent, it's able to touch and move in ways very few acts have been able to achieve, it's music is timeless and rediscovering these albums years later certainly proves this...now sold out for some years we are pleased to present these classic albums together in a special format. This 4CD box set includes the first 4 albums with bonus tracks taken from various compilations and mini albums covering the early days of this unique act. Atomtrakt - Sperrstelle Nordost Enhanced CD
(Steinklang: SK052)
 |
Two years after the highly acclaimed "Nuklearchetyp" album the mighty Atomtrakt are finally back with a new release entitled "Sperrstelle Nordost". This new opus sets new standards in the Apocalyptic / Martial Industrial scene: Words like 'bombastic', 'martial', 'heroic' or 'militant' definitely need to be re-defined. The atmosphere of "Sperrstelle Nordost" is threatening and cold. It leads the listener back to times of war and truly hits like an atomic bomb. "Sperrstelle Nordost" deals with the situation of Switzerland in the 2nd world war / cold war - "Sperrstell Nordost" is an area in Switzerland which was of national importance for the entire country during times of war. The lyrics deal with fears, death, decay and ambiguity. The album features a superb video clip for 'Trauermarsch'. 6-panel digipak. File next to Kreuzweg Ost or Triarii.. $14.99

Bleiburg - Indisibiliter Ac Inseparabiliter
(The Eastern Front: Front026)
 |
Following 2008’s Open Wound live CD and DVD releases, the martial industrial project of German-Croatian musician Stefan Rukavina launches a fresh offensive on The Eastern Front with this nostalgic tribute to the glory and pathos of a vanished empire.«Indivisibiliter ac Inseparabiliter»—Latin for ‘indivisibly and inseparably’—was the motto of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Formed in 1867 under the aegis of the Austrian Habsburg dynasty and constituting the most important power bloc in central Europe, the empire was consigned to oblivion by the First World War, a war precipitated by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Habsburg throne. The empire’s rise and fall is vividly evoked in 15 new tracks by Bleiburg, with styles ranging from orchestral grandeur through stirring folk melodies to sample-laden EBM. The album booklet is copiously illustrated with beautiful period artwork, and contains a detailed German-language history of the Rukavina family, in particular the illustrious Croatian general Baron Georg Freiherr von Rukavina, commander of the fortress of Temesvár. $13.00

Bunker & Gorngoltz - Ashes CDr
(UFA Muzak: UFA26)
 |
I think this is a split release, not a collaborative one, but it's all pretty vague and hard to tell. So, I'm going on the assumption that it's the latter. That still doesn't help me in trying to describe this though - weird looping noises, amplifier buzz, heavy electronic oscillations, and low level, muddled, factory din, all playing out in a mostly non-linear fashion. Black glossy envelope with 8 page black & white booklet.Limited to 91 copies.. $10.66

Dannagoisch - Emm Dichda Ondrholz
(Percht: Percht013)
 |
Dannagoischd - the ghost of the dark forest - is a project coming directly out of the deep Alpine and Swabian woods. ”Emm dichda Ondrholz” (in the dense brush-wood) features 16 tracks of ALPINE FOREST FOLK, telling tales in ancient Swabian language about creatures living in darkest woods, with all their legends, atmospheres and myths. The album carries a vast variety of instruments and styles and also includes two video-clips. The atmosphere spreads between melancholy, tradition and pure forest life. Dreamy songs are mixed with dark and natural (sound)tracks, as well as with more folky tunes. ”Emm dichda Ondrholz” is a perfect trip to the misty fir tree forests. Feel the rustling of the trees, the burning of fires, the ghosts and creatures around you… Meet wild animals, feel the aura of the woods and sink into a unique forest atmosphere. All lyrics of the album are written in deep Swabian dialect. The album was mastered by Axel Frank (Werkraum / Sturmpercht) at Blue Lounge Studios / Berlin. Der Blutharsch - Live in Leiden
(WKN: WKN37)
 |
Live in Leiden by Der Blutharsch is the 3rd album in a series of live recordings - after "Live at The Monastery" and "Live in Copenhagen". Live in Leiden was recorded at "The Night of Confusion" held September 28th 2oo4 at the legendary venue LVC and was the "most controversial" concert in the 40 years history of the club. Nevertheless, the night was a huge success, as this recording bears out. At the same time it is the last live recording of the "old" Blutharsch - a small reminder about what Der Blutharsch was infamous for before they morphed into "era two" and turned into a dark psychedelic kraut monster. This is a great live document of a concert of the the band who invented "martial industrial" as well as "military pop" - a MUST of all die hard fans of this genre as well as for people who want to know why this band once has been considered "dangerous". The CD comes in a foilblocked digipak.. $16.50

Derniere Volonte - Immortel
(Hau Ruck!: HR!96)
 |
Immortel, Derniere Volonte`s 5th studio album took 4 years in making and marks their 15th anniversary! It is a huge development from the former style which redefined the therm "military pop" to a more homoguene, less neoclassic but much more modern in sounds, more electronic but organic at the same time - and reinvents a style Geoffroy D has been influenced since his early days. The themes on Immortel are effected by books, movies or personal experiences of Geoffroy but reflects in general his personal feelings about beloved people and their spirit which is and always will be present in our souls and memories. Immortel is another milestone in the oevre of one of France`s most interresting band from the underground scene and will for sure attract fans from the early days but a lot of new fans from other musical scenes.. $16.66

Deutsch Nepal - The Silent Container 4CD
(Old Europa Café: OECD121)
 |
Re-stock. Finally, the re-edition into digital format of the “Silent” tape trilogy out so many years ago on OEC and long since sold out . A great opporunity to hear the evolution of Deutsch Nepal in a long, accurate and complete work. Re-mastered in high quality CD standards by Peter Andersson (RAISON D’ETRE). This is the complete "Silence" saga with the new triple CD digipak (containing Only Silence Among the Filthy, The Silent Earth, and Behind A Wall of Silence) plus the old "The Silent Siege" single CD digipak, all coming inside a slip-box and including a set of 4 inserts. The re-edition of "The Silent Siege" album comes with a completely new label design similar to the "Silent Container" triple CD set. Across the board, some pretty classic, psychedelic industrial sounds in the true old school DN fashion. FYI, I did not order (on the recommendation of OEC) the edition without Silent Siege, since the price difference was fairly marginal.. $39.49

Drakh - Bethlehem
(Essence Music: ESS014)
 |
One third of the cult post-industrial Swedish legends MZ.412, one half of the amazing experimental act Beyond Sensory Experience and Nordvargr’s long running loyal partner on classic endeavors – including the abyssal black ambient duo Nordvargr/Drakh. With such high caliber résumé, we are more than honored to present the first DRAKH solo album! While mostly known for his demonic, truly Swedish guitar interventions on the MZ.412 or N/D pitch black ambiences, Bethlehem finds Jonas Aneheim walking through slow, quasi-harmonic, subtle, yet thick drone fields weaving elaborate and unexpected damaged electronic rhythms and harsh, crackling ambient textures that can become – at the same time – both delicate and haunting, warm and freezing, to finally drown in a sea of reverb, glacial riffing and distortion on his own shadowy interpretation of the city of Bethlehem. Simply perfect.Masterfully conceived and recorded on the road during his many world travels over the past years – from the US State of Indiana to Asia –, the album successfully narrates unknown angles from these places via ominous sonic vistas and pallets that truly honor the charming aura and tradition of the bleakest Swedish sounds.Presented in our custom 6-panel digisleeve packaging with stunning and desolate photography by Seldon Hunt. Not coincidentally mastered by no one else than Jouni Ollila (aka Ulvtharm, from the MZ.412 fame) at oLLiLaboratories Studios.. $13.99

Educator - Sow the Wind mini CDr
(L-White: LW060)
 |
This is the second release of Educator. The two tracks “400 Years/Hollow Earth” and “White People/Wigger” are "the whole truth and nothing but the truth" of ugly power electronics. Coarse frequency abuse, lo-fi churn, and squelching feedback with a raw, very pissed off vocal attack. Grey Wolves fans take note.. $12.33

Eldar - Amaterasu Shiroi
(Caustic Records: CRR026)
 |
After the great debut album from Eldar released through Cold Meat Industry, Caustic Records presents the re-release of two old and sold out albums of this band from Barcelona. All work that appears on this album has been re-recorded and re-mastered from 2007/2008 demo recordings originally released by SkullLine in two volumes called "Ama Terasu" and "Solve Et Coagula", both of which are currently sold out. They have re-recorded almost all of the instruments and voices that make up the album, and have also been changed and added various features and sounds/samples of songs, including inedit songs. The result is a completely new and different album from the first recordings. A must for fans of Triarii, Toroidh, A Challenge of Honour, Stahlwerk 9.. $14.33

Frakmundt - Ubarglieder
(Percht: Percht015)
 |
After the highly acclaimed demo tape “Losid vo Bärge ond Tal”, the FRÄKMÜNDT debut album “Urbärglieder” is released on Steinklang/ Percht: “Urbärglieder” is the amazing and unique debut CD of the Swiss Ur-Folk project FRÄKMÜNDT which was born out of the idea to revive old sagas and nearly forgotten songs and atmospheres of the alpine regions of Switzerland. Performed in alemannic central-Swiss dialect, the songs on “Urbärglieder” simulate a journey through landscapes and sagas of the quaint regions of Switzerland. They let you chase through stormwinds with the wild hunt at mount Pilatus or stroll under the paintings of the danse macabre over the Spreuerbridge in Lucerne. One can meet the devil in the Schöllenen gorge and follow the alpine herdsmen during their sad walk down to the valleys in autumn. The album is alternated by two sound-accentuated sagas and two atmospheric pieces, letting one share the horrors of the ghost-house in Stans and the mythical ambiance inside the Mondmilchloch cave. On “Urbärglieder”, acoustic guitars, accordion, violin, flutes and various percussion instruments generate melancholic melodies full of nostalgia, but also rousing hymns which invite to dance. The album is very diverse and never gets boring. Without exaggerating, this is truly something new which was never heard before: Ur-Folk at its best! FRÄKMÜNDT is definitely the originator of this sound. The album has a playing time of 67 minutes and it was mastered at Luftschutzkerker/ Switzerland. FRÄKMÜNDT features cz of STURMPERCHT / DÂNNÂGÔISCHD / VINTERRIKET / ATOMTRAKT / NEBELKORONA etc. It is available in a deluxe DIGIPAK with 16-pages booklet. $15.33

Funerary Call - Dark Waters Stirred
(Fall of Nature: FON02)
 |
Heralded as one of the progenitors of black ambient music, Funerary Call (aka Harlow MacFarlane of Sistrenatus) returns from dormancy with his darkest release to date. "Dark Waters Stirred" is a ceremonial maelstrom of ominous electronics, doom-laden guitars and dark ambient textures. An audial descent into ritualistic obscurity and misanthropy. Features guest appearances from the likes of Deathlord (Blasphemy, ex-Conqueror), and Troy Southgate (H.E.R.R., Seelenlicht) amongst others. $12.66

Gnaw Their Tongues - L'arrivee de la Terne Mort Triomphante
(Crucial Blast: CBR85)
 |
One of the extreme metal/industrial underground's most unique bands, Gnaw Their Tongues arises again with a new album of majestic, orchestral death-terror called L'arrivée de la Terne Mort Triomphante, a series of five hymns to the death shroud, a celebration of dissolution. This Dutch one-man avant black/doom/industrial band is responsible for two of the most chilling albums of abstract heaviness to have been released in recent years (An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood and All The Grand Magnificence Of Perversity, both from Crucial Blast), but with this new full-length, Gnaw Their Tongues peels back additional layers of it's bombastic horror to reveal moments of euphonic beauty more than we've heard on the previous albums. This is still harrowing stuff, though. The album opens with soaring choirs of the damned and a cacophony of tortured shrieks and demonic howling underneath a crushing, sludgy bass riff and pounding elephantine drumming, total blackened doom that's soon joined by peals of dissonant strings and softer droning cellos and violins. As you get deeper into " L'arrivée de la terne mort triomphante", there are moments of severe beauty that emerge, brief passages of fragile piano and mournful strings, the soft crackle of ancient vinyl grooves and French horns. These moments repeat throughout the album, lots of symphonic shadow that drifts amidst the pounding industrial blackness, but they never last for long as the spiraling woodwinds and cyclical piano figures inevitably become subsumed into the blasts of malevolent orchestral might. The fearsome martial drums and brass fanfares at the beginning of "Les anges frémissent devant la mort" eventually evolve into stretches of abstract industrial percussive pummel over droning strings and organ, and then into a stunning cinematic finale. That's followed by the clanking doom, swarming black buzz and sheet-metal cacophony of "La mort dans toute son ineffable grandeur/splendeur", the most industrial-sounding track on the album. "Le Chant De La Mort" is a lurching, blown-out death march that shifts into an infernal dubbed-out dirge, and the closing track " Le trône blanc de la mort (de white throne of death)" rumbles through funereal classical drift, waves of horns, strings, percussion surging into a series of dark, mournful shapes at first, but are then shattered by pounding doom metal drums and wailing choir voices, becoming an utterly grim blackened dirge with distorted shrieking vocals that are wracked with agony, ending the album with a suffocating atmosphere of death. At its heaviest, it's like funeral doom bathed in modern orchestral music, a cross between Penderecki and pitch-black doom filth, pulverizing and intensely evil. Of course, this is essential for fans of previous Gnaw Their Tongues albums, but it's equally recommended to fans of both abstract blackened weirdness of bands like Emit, Abruptum, and Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, and the bleak Wagnerian industrial of In Slaughter Natives and Shinjuku Thief. Like the previous two Gnaw Their Tongues releases on Crucial Blast, this comes in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket (which is exclusive to the North American release of this disc. $10.00

Gnomonclast - Tempus Null
(Old Europa Café: OECD125)

Horologium - A Handful of Dust and Ashes
(Zoharum: Zohar013)

A collection of tracks recorded during various occasions, but united here by a peculiar sediment of dust and rust; it's a journey back in time to the limited and sold out "A Handful of Dust" and "Opium" releases, complete with bonus material. Esoteric and surreal soundscapes, mixing cut-ups of loops, dark orchestrations, whimsical interludes, samples, and foreign noises.. $13.00

Hrissharsgrani/Dead Man's Hill - Dead:Meat
(Steinklang Distro: SKD26)
 |
-ways split album - a great mix between Martial / Industrial / Ambient / Electronic and more. five new HROSSHARSGRANI anthems featuring vocals by Bart Piette from D.M.H. and Pr. Sergiy from MOLOCH, as well as five new monumental epics from the master of Dark Ambient, Dead Man's Hill - this time a lot more intense and song-oriented than on earlier releases. "Dead:Meat" is the so far most mature and complex album of both artists. composition, interpretation and design feel like a smack in the face and leave no room for compromise! morbidity meets iron avant-garde, romanticism encounters the frozen coldness of metal! when will people finally realize: if you want to feel you MUST listen! 10 songs / 64 min.. $14.33

IAM. - Bol
(Eibon: IAM079)
 |
IAM. is an Italo-croatian duo headed by Morgan Bellini (mastermind of Vanessa Van Basten), and working in the dark side of the sonic spectrum. "Bol" is an ambient journey where drones meet melodies to create a strange universe, populated by young ghosts, elusive presences, friendly (?) spirits and uncategorizable demons. Challenging listening for a few sleepless nights....... $13.33
|
In Meditarium - The Great Limbo
(Wrotycz: WRT010)
 |
In Meditarivm is an Ukrainian apocalyptic ritual & dark ambient project founded in 2000 by Olegh Kolyada, known for (prior to this at least) his projects First Human Ferro, Ostarbeiter and Oda Relicta. Previous albums like the CDrs "Les Fleurs du Mal" and "Uterus" outlined the old school approach of the project, clearly influenced by the likes of Morthound, Ildfrost, ConSono or Archon Satani. As such, this is some solid, good old fashioned dark industrial in the early CMI vein - plenty of ghostly reverb, factory clangs, and cavernous atmospheres with subtle, solemn melodies and loops. The record, accompanied by a talented artwork of Kati Astraeir, comes as a limited to 500 copies 4-panel UV-varnished digipack with a poster.. $13.33
|
Inner Vision Laboratory - Anywhere Out of This World
(Beast of Prey: BOP7.0)
 |
Latest from this Polish act, Anywhere Out of This World has 11 tracks and is available in a full-colour Digipak in an edition of 500 copies. Should find appeal to those who enjoy tranquil, diverse, dark-ambient sounds as it offers polished, flowing, cinematic atmospheres with strong rhythms and plenty of apocalyptic/sci-fi/industrial noises. Nicely layered, well layered and dynamic, with good, clean production values.. $13.33
|
Jarl - Vertigo Border
(Autarkeia: ACD048)
 |
Not to be confused with the recently released Vertigo Emission CD, though this can certainly be seen as a logical extension of that release, as Erik remains loyal to his credo to mind fuck the audience with wave after wave of hypnotically monotone pulsations and cold, burrowing frequencies. Lmtd 200 copies.. $14.33
|
John Zewizz - 2012
(Old Europa Café: OECD130)
 |
John Zewizz' first solo album in almost 30 years, though I'm not entirely sure what distinguishes it from most Sleep Chamber releases per se. It does seem to harken back to more mid era Sleep Chamber though, and is not as "slick" as their recent releases. Alternating between rhythmic, fetish and sleaze inspired songs and those of a darker, more mystical or apocalyptic nature. I woudl think this will find appeal among fans of the more traditional SC sound than their more recent work.. $14.50
|
K100 - The Vault of Apparitions
(Neuropa: NRP25)
 |
The solo project of Kim Sølve (Trine + Kim Design Studio, Swarms, M) turns loose his first collection from the vault. After a decade of introspection, intense work and self-imposed musical seclusion he now presents the first 12 tracks of dark glimmering electronic music. This is distant, transporting music built from ghost frequencies and hoarse sound fields. The building blocks are carved from excursions to industrial ruins and condemned places which resonates with otherness and timelessness, as well as from sounds of personal artifacts and intense personal experiences bordering on rituals. High quality dark ambient that I actually found to be a very nice companion to Wolfskin's Stonegates of Silence CD, which I posted the same day.. $14.33
|
Karjalan Tazavalla - Uhtua CDr
(UFA Muzak: UFA29)
 |
One of a latest batch of releases from the ever mysterious UFA Muzak out of Russia, who always seem to find even more mysterious projects to populate their roster. For this release, KT gives us 5 tracks of some pretty scary stuff - minimalistic and drone based , but very haunting, with reverbed metal distantly clanging over a steady, post-Chernobyl hum. It's not thematically based around that, but it's all I could think of when listening to it. Lmtd 91. $12.44
|
Klangstabil - Vertraut CDep
(Ant-Zen: Act246)
 |
This collection includes the original version of KLANGSTABIL's most famous track, "Vertraut", which captured the attention of listeners worldwide right from its first release on a compilation in 2002. In addition to that you will find eight other interpretations, demonstrating the versatility of work that can be extracted from the catchy, familiar motif. Some of the artists who have remixed the track have based their interpretation on intelligent dance music: the breakbeat-framed SOMATIC RESPONSES version, a hybrid of breakcore and IDM by U.S. project ACCESS TO ARASAKA, KEEF BAKER's metric electro background, which turns into post-rock with dense guitars, and ARCHITECT's Daniel Myer gives us dancefloor-capable pounder topped with a plausible new melody line to complement the original theme. Torben Wendt (DIORAMA) turns "Vertraut" into beautiful melodic body music, while SYNAPSCAPE keep the original track structure but replace the instrumentation and beats, turning the theme into a heavy electronic floorburner. KSDJ is Maurizio Blanco himself, adding some newly faceted rhythm patterns and melody lines, making his version a contemporary DJ anthem. The remix section is topped off by L'OMBRE from Canada, with lush ambient electronica at its finest.. $11.66
|
Kreuzer - L'Armee Secrete 3inch CDr
(R.O.N.F. Records: RNF054)
 |
5 well-executed tracks which fuse and combine elements of Martial Industrial, Power Electronics, Dark Ambient quite in the way of the old European school. Rhythmic militant percussion, processed voice samples, powerful synth lines. The concept of the album is the French Resistance during the WWII and with track titles such as "Appel Au Peuple", "Les Combatants De La Nuit", "La Libération" Kreuzer draws an apocalyptic atmosphere full of tension. Includes Charles De Gaulle's speeches. 5 tracks / 20 minutes length. I don't remember the full length on The Eastern Front being as strong as these works (it maybe, I just need to revisit), but this is real surprise.. $10.00
|
Krzysztof Stanislawski - End of All Things
(Zoharum: IYHHH01)
 |
First of the new 'IYHHH' series on Zorahum - aimed at showcasing debut albums by remarkable new artists. This is the debut material of Polish composer Krzysztof Stanislawski, an artist inspired by the soundtrack to movies such as "Pi", "Saw" or "Event Horizon", with echoes of Clouser, Zimmer or Goldenthal. As such, this is very cinematic and remarkably polished (especially for a debut); dramatic orchestrations infused with sharp, gleaming industrial soundscapes, rhythmic tempo changes, and flowing textures. Ltd x 444 hand-numbered copies in an outsized ecopak with postcard.. $13.50

Lamia Vox - ...Introductio
(Indiestate: Angriff38)
 |
Intriguing debut from this female fronted project of richly textured, Lovecraftian inspired dark ambience. At it's core, the drones remind me a bit of Bad Sector (ghostly reverberations with a cosmic feel), but these are augmented by subtle ritual touches and something more sinister lurking in the shadows. Because of that, Endura came to mind once or twice as well, though this is generally less structured than what they traditionally did. Limited to 500 copies comes in a full colour 4-panel digipak.. $14.77

Lost Kingdom - Meant For Great Things
(Waerloga: WAER07)
 |
Lost Kingdom's second installment "Meant for Great Things" is a truly great step in the right direction. The 9 tracks are thematically centered around a medieval tale, which unfolds in with epic full orchestra arrangements mixed with music for chamber ensemble and more intimate sections. Simon Kolle, the man behind bands such as Za Frûmi and Musterion (and more) have mastered this jewel of an album. The two Tjernberg brothers, that are Lost Kingdom, have done a more dramatic and powerful sounding songs this time around. Still it's neo-classical but this time the theme is hinted in the tracklist. Expect drama, war and tragedy. But also many beautiful pieces which are like magical gems on this fantastic album.. $13.99

Mauthausen Orchestra - Digression
(Silentes: SME1040)
 |
Pierpaolo Zopp / Mauthausen Orchestra returns with a new album comprised of one 40 minute track where the fury and aggressiveness of his usually harsh sonorities of a Noise/Power-Electronics nature are merged with quieter, more disorienting parts of wavering frequencies, unexpected rhythmic pulsations, and cosmic, synthesizer drift.. $13.50

Mekanorganik - How to Extract Sunlight From Cucumbers
(Neuropa: NRP26)
 |
'How To Extract Sunlight From Cucumbers' is the debut album of the Belgian post industrial music formation MekanOrganiK, featuring three members of the well-known industrial percussion band MILITIA: Frank Gorissen, Sandra Janssen and Frank Van Hoof. They play rhythmic music using a combination of conventional instruments (percussion, guitar, effects, sequencer, wind instruments...) mixed with tools, machines and 'organic materials' such as wood, water, sand, stones, bones and skulls, glass and even cucumbers. The music of the album is based on the adventures of Lemuel Gulliver, the main character in Jonathan Swift's book 'Gulliver's Travels', which is a great and sophisticated satire of human nature based on Swift's experience of his times. 'Gulliver's Travels' is an anatomy of human nature and society and so is the music of MekanOrganiK. Stylistically, expect some resemblance at times to Militia (particularly in the sort of pulsating, rhythmic churn displayed in periodic tracks, such as Air Turbulence Machine, This Forest is Floating, or Biomechanoid), though this comes off as ultimately more experimental and psychedelic, offering a somewhat bizarre collection of textures, percussion, and noises. That being said, this has a great, hypnotic flow that begs to be listened to from start to finish. A nice companion to Militia, particularly when Neuropa has promised new work from them in the coming year. Cool, eh? I'm actually jealous.. $14.99

Melek-Tha - Apokalypsia
(Necrocosm: Necro004)
 |
Not new, but one we missed the first time around. The formula's been established, so if you've heard other Melek-Tha releases, than you pretty much know what to expect - dark and sinister apocalyptic sounds, with ominous orchestral tones and hellish atmospheres. At least parts of this are more ambient than some of the other stuff I remember hearing from Lord Evil, and for the most part, it really works. I'm not entirely sure why Melek-Tha doesn't get a lot of respect - maybe it's the sample heavy nature and blatant plagariasm of their early years, but I can't find too much at fault with this stuff.. $11.00

Merzbow - Marmo
(Old Europa Café: OECD131)
 |
After two vinyl releases, Merzbow returns to the digital spectrum with this latest album entitled "Marmo" (Marble for Italian), having been influenced by his trips to Italy (particularly Venice) and it's prolific use of marble in their architecture. 3 tracks of ultra-psychedelic and far out noise, with spasmodic eruptions of glitchy, fractured "rhythms" and cascading tonal fluctuations.. $14.50
|
Mezire - Corrosion Effects
(Rustblade: RBL009)
 |
I liked the 3inch CDr on L-White so much (that not enough of you bought btw), that I thought it worth hunting down of Mezire's earlier works, this full length one being from 2007. Heavy, well, heavy electronics, with fat, agitating synth waves rife with pulsating and dangerous distortion, squirming noise, and some killer vocals. Both Navicon and Control came to mind while listening to this, which should stand as an endorsement in and of itself.. $13.33

Mika Goedrijk - Looking-Glass World
(Ant-Zen: Act251)
 |
One year after Pellicules, Mika Goedrijk presents the next aural view of his inner self with Looking-Glass World. Musically, the self conceptional shift into the world of ambient idm sounds is evident.Well placed patterns enriched with mellow guitar slides (Dead Air), melancholy piano lines (At the 11th Hour), a distinctive (nearly) Aphex-Twin synth (White Sand Semantics), archaic trumpet calls (Lost Decade), pounding breakbeats with pulsing sub bass (Rusty Swiss Army Knife, Le Grand Mal), make this release a fascinating blend of contemporary electronic tones.Looking-Glass World is an album of otherworldly ambience entwined with a blend of acoustic sounds and sheets of sequenced patterns. A highly aesthetic sonic universe, where moods and mastery melt into warm, repetitive arrangements. Have a look into the looking-glass world.. $13.99

Militia - Archive Collection 1996-1997
(Neuropa: NRP27)
 |
The first chapter of Militia's Archive Collection takes us back to their 1996-1997 recordings. Hard to believe it's been 14 years since I first reviewed some of these for Audio Drudge, and while it doesn't have quite the same impact it did back then, they definitely stand the test of time. The disc holds six tracks taken from the monumental 'War Against Society' compilation, the 'Pain/Familiedrama' tracks featuring Con-Dom and Laura Maes and ends with the 'Kingdom Of Our Lord' mcd. All tracks were previously released by the now defunct German cult-label Praxis Dr. Bearmann and serve as a nice appetizer for Militia's upcoming album 'Power, Propaganda, Production!'. For those that need an introduction to the Miltia sound (after all, they haven't been models of productivity the last few years), they are Belgian industrial-percussion group with anarchic leanings, creating intricate and intoxicating soundscapes built around persistent and surging rhythms, samples, vocal proclamations, and layers of electronics and wind instrumentation. An essential piece of industrial nostalgia!!. $14.33

Moon Far Away - Minnesang
(Ahnstern: Ahnstern45)
 |
Brand new album from cult Russian Neofolk act Moon Far Away! "Minnesang" is an album of 21st century ritual music encased in a unique fusion of the most diverse and zeitgeist-capturing musical styles, from neofolk, dark folk and post punk to practically future pop. The theme of the album, the deep-rooted feminine archetypes in contemporary art, is embodied in the title, which identifies a genre of medieval knight lyrics. At the same time, most of the original Russian lyrics on the album are drenched with the trademark Pomor flavours, emphasising the pride that the band has always taken in its cultural roots that extend deep into the epic traditions of the Russian North. "Minnesang" is a new milestone achieved by a cult group who already gave contemporary art scene a number of discoveries and revelations. This Ahnstern version has partly different artwork to the Russian edition and the last song is completely different to the Russian version.. $15.33

Musterion - The Wondrous Journey Through the Catacombs of Life
(Horus CyclicDaemon: HCDXI)
 |
The Wondrous Journey Through the Catacombs of Life is the second album of Musterion, following the highly acclaimed debut album The Black Lodge (2005), built upon complex and obscure composition techniques and musical innovation, and it drags the listener on a brilliantly imaginative and frightening journey that combines elements of dark ambient, surrealism, absurdity, Holyism with the help advanced structural and theoretical considerations in terms of the composition. The tale is concerning mind control by psychic, electronic, sexual, pharmaceutical, subliminal, and other means. The story stretches into the absurd and surely Simon AA Kölle exorcising some demons of his own and exploring a musical world where regular music metre is unimportant, where the rhythm of a piece could be dictated by breathless inspiration more than moving pictures (as the case with film music) or to fit a specific genre. Yet he again expands and evolves the genre of dark ambient into art music.Due to the dramatic nature of the music, which is shifting pace of both horror and atmosphere, the only way it would feel real enough included incorporation of organic instruments and electro-acoustic instruments. Improvisations, twisted circus music, industrial parts and many atmospheric moments give way for a highly symbolistic album where all elements are pieces of the broken puzzle.Artwork and design by Niko Skorpio.. $13.33

Nadja - Autopergamene
(Essence Music: ESS013)
 |
Call it drone-doom-dirge-shoegaze or any other in vogue nomenclature you like. It doesn’t matter. The music is so sublime and superb that we consider a waste of time trying to further categorize the spiraling sounds exhaling from a NADJA album. They are simply the true originators of this bred of blissful, seriously intense and ominously ethereal heavy sounds and one the few acts – along with the genius solo work from the duo’s main composer, Aidan Baker – we are truly obsessed with these days. That said, we are more than glad to welcome the Canadian duo to Essence Music with an immense masterwork!Autopergamene – a spell or charm wherein you write in blood, on a fragment of skin, what you wish to happen – finds NADJA at the peak of their sonic language of slow-blooming, heavily nuanced ambient guitar constructions and slow motion, lush, epic heaviness.Divided in three colossal movements, the album starts with the blissful, paced and almost orchestral – much aided by three guest members on strings and Aidan’s trombone, flute and piano – “You Write Your Name in My Skin”, travels through the straight up, super distorted and fuzzed out rumbling sludge riffages of “You Write Your Name in My Head” and its semi-growling processed vocals to finally unfold the nearly half-hour long “You Write My Name in Your Blood” that gracefully starts with delicate, lush acoustic guitars glacially giving birth to an enormous, shimmering and heavily layered symphonic wall to then submerge and bring in a hazy, sparkling and almost passionate, yet twisted, duetto of Aidan-Leah’s male-female voices. Breathtaking.Lavishly assembled in a custom 6-panel digisleeve packaging housing a 6 cards set with beautiful watercolor paintings and artwork by the gifted Portuguese artist L Filipe dos Santos. Superb mastering via James Plotkin.. $14.00

Nebelkorona - Tannenhochforst

Nekrasov - Extinction
(Crucial Blast: CBR86)
 |
Riding atop the recent wave of black metal/noise hybrids who combine the bleak frosty riffs and blackened ferocity of underground BM with blown-out and corrosive strains of industrial noise (see also WOLD, Emit, Grief No Absolution, Enbilulugugal, Vargr), the Australian one-man band Nekrasov has so far made a substantial mark in the realm of extremist necro-racket with a series of limited edition, brutally abrasive albums (Cognition Of Splendid Oblivion, The Form Of Thought From Beast, etc) that have mostly been self-released, save for some recent offerings on labels like Siege Of Power and Chrome Leaf. Early on, Nekrasov's sound was steeped in caustic noise, a blazing industrialized black metal assault that was doused in heavy levels of irradiated distortion and Merzbowian skree. But more recently, it's mutated into less metallic regions, alternating the hyperblast black metal with forays into crushing, demonic wall-noise and blasted ambience. Now, Nekrasov is back with a new full length (the first for Crucial Blast), and it's the most advanced slab of their blacknoize terror that we've heard so far. An octagonal prism of isolationist drone, flesh-rending mechanical black metal, abstract otherworldly beauty, claustrophobic industrial dread, and the most violent, suffocating strains of harsh noise, Extinction is pure cyclonic contempt for humanity. The eight-song disc combines hyperspeed cybernetic blastscapes and bleak black metal riffage, the tracks often revealing snarled minor key melodies that are buried deep beneath blizzard blasts of machinegun drum machines, the drums veering through nerve-fraying rhythmic shifts, and acidic croaks bathed in black hiss. Triumphant frost-bitten riffs scream out of maelstroms of violent distortion, and Choral voices soar through a cyclone of helicoptering blastbeats and sheets of blown-out, ultra distorted drone, streaked with bits of gorgeous vibraphone-like melody, somber Hammond-like organ drones and looped synth, sometimes breaking off into grinding slo-motion industrial throb or swirling kosimiche drift. The tracks on Extinction go back and forth between the noisier, more industrial like material and overt black metal, though the two sides of Nekrasov's sound are always present together. When the sound does move into pure noise, it's either vast fields of minimal ambient drift, metallic clank and distant percussive sounds, utterly bleak Lustmordian soundscapes, or crushing, almost HNW-style slabs of molten noise, scouring waves of hellish skree and crushing slow-motion tidal surges of jet-black sonic syrup flecked with dubbed-out blasts of tectonic crush and electronic glitches that ripple across the void.Closing the album, the title track descends even further into black industrial crush, a monstrous, almost seventeen-minute long sprawl of plodding, simple drum pound echoing within a slowly swirling fog of distorted fx, churning, billowing black ambience, buried black buzz, an endless whirlpool of blown-out synthesizers and the immense black breath of leviathan lungs heaving deep below the surface.Like everything else from Nekrasov, this album is loaded with blasting inhuman drumming and ferocious riffing that form into noise-drenched trance-scapes of bestial industrial BM, but the attention to texture and sound sculpture elevates this above most mechanized black metal projects, with immersive layers of electronic sound, creative stereo panning techniques, and other production tricks that create a harsh, alien atmosphere that is pretty unique to Nekrasov's sound. This is a scorching new chapter from one of our favorite bands out there right now fusing black metal and noise. The cd version comes packaged in a full color six-panel digipack.. $10.00

Nihil Novi Sub Sole - Jupiter Temple
(My Kingdom Music: Echo57)
 |
Here is the new born musical apocalypse of Dutch mastermind Marco Kehren (Deinonychs). Nihil Novi Sub Sole takes the listener into a downward spiral of dark stained compositions, which combines dark Ambient sounds with eerie sounding orchestration and choirs wrapped in Martial Industrial-like sound compositions, with heavy militaristic drums. Evidently influenced by the like of Rome. Mastered by Axel Frank (Werkraum, Sturmpercht). Beautifully presented in an A5 digipak. $13.33

Nordvargr/Surachai - A Wilderness of Cloades
(Old Europa Café: OECD133)
 |
What began as a mutual correspondence turned into an immediate respect and eventually a sickness and obsession that resulted in this album. The two artists, NORDVARGR who hails from the depths of Sweden's wintered wastelands, and SURACHAI from the frozen concrete jungles of Chicago, explored new sonic territory and claimed them as their own. Their shared knowledge of process and inspiration gave way to a smothering environment populated by long shadows and empty cities...dark electronic soundscapes with insectile and alien noises, ominous orhcestral undercurrents, unsettled frequencies, and ominous glitches suggestive of something gone awry. While others sleep and hibernate, the one's haunting dreams weave on the sunless winter days. Lmtd 300 copies, which I suppose dictates the price.. $16.66

Orchestra Noir - What If....
(Neuropa: NRP28)
 |
This is the first full-length album from Tony Wakeford's new-look Orchestra Noir since its resurrection as a London based project. With a move away from the martial towards musicians and compositions more based on chamber, and early music. In 2006 a collaboration started with Current 93 collaborator Richard Moult and acclaimed oboist Mark Baigent based initially on the words and music of Tony Wakeford but which soon flourished as a collaboration between the three and later with the acclaimed early-music violinists and viola players, Ben Sansom and Alexandria Lawrence. With the addition of Sol Invictus percussionist M and flutist Guy Harries, a synthesis of experimental and traditional took place with unhealthy dollops of Edwardian dark whimsy, humor and satire. Aided by the folki voice of Autumn Grieve and the Jazz improvisation of Jessica Constable, an intriguing new direction had begun. $14.50

Penjaga Insaf - Sama Sadja
(Power & Steel: PAS27)
 |
For several years Ingo Sauerbrey made extensive travels through Indonesia, always carrying recording equipment to collect sounds as an audio diary. During periodic return trips to Germany, he started to work on the recordings with electronic devices. Some sounds were edited, cut and transformed, while others were kept completely intact. To name a few sound sources only recordings from Water Puppet and Shadow Theatres, Gamelan and various welcoming and fighting dances like Kecak, Jegog and the Tarian Caci were used for this album. Some of those impressive performances were made of 60 to 90 men chanting and dancing while a bamboo orchestra used 4 meter long bamboo sticks playing bass drums on it. Sada SAdja is weaving together the sounds of living traditions, religions and languages with spherical ambient pads and electronically edited drones from the field recordings. This is an contemplative and intimate soundtrack from the deepest heart of South East Asia. LOKI/PaS. $14.50

Phaenon - His Master's Voice
(Malignant: TumorCD45)
 |
After the well received debut Submerged, Phaenon follows things up with an even deeper immersion into a world of bleak, isolationist sounds. Whereas Submerged was one long and infinitely expansive drone piece, His Master’s Voice is broken up into four separate, but flowing tracks of sprawling and spacious ambient drift, laced with interstellar disturbances, probing, alien tones and icy shards of celestial debris…a whirling specter of darkness and void-ic space, thematically based upon the 1968 novel of the same name by Stanislaw Lem, which is centered around the efforts by scientists to decode, translate and understand a series of extraterrestrial transmissions. As a whole, His Master’s Voice represents a logical progression in Phaenon’s sound and is the ultimate in headphone listening. In gorgeous 6 panel digipak.. $12.00

Phase II - Afterglow
(Ahnstern: Ahnstern29)
 |
has been a little over thirty years since the inception and all-too-brief life span of Phase II, the progressive-folk band founded by Mark Andrews (Blue Grass) and Nicholas Tesluk (Changes). Since that time, only the five selections on their self-titled, blue vinyl, extended-play record (and a handful of songs featured in recent anthology appearances) have found an audience outside of the venues where the group performed live during their original three-year tenure. That is about to change! As the piece de resistance of Phase II's artistic career to date, the band's new album Afterglow has arrived, introducing modern listeners to their unique and timeless mixture of varied musical stylings. Included in this expansive release are six songs from their original repertoire - in some cases, songs only rehearsed, but never before performed in any venue - all recorded here for the very first time. As a special reprise, all of the songs from the blue vinyl record (now long out-of-print) have been enhanced and included on the Afterglow album. And to bring things full-circle, Phase II is also proud to present a recording of its first all-new song of the twenty-first century on this compact disc.To round out an already-generous Phase II presentation, the album concludes with "Candle in the Night", their complete pre-progressive, conceptual radio program from 1978 (two songs of which were included on 2004's Tonwerk Flammenzauber 2 CD). The Afterglow package includes an attractive booklet featuring full lyrics, as well as an anecdotal history of the band in text and photos.Whether during their "folk duo" period, or as a full progressive band, the original warmth of the music of Phase II was felt all-too-briefly and by all-too-few. Afterglow is a comprehensive retrospective of their original songs. Now that Nicholas and Mark have reunited in this "Digital Age", may it also provide a launch pad for exciting new works to come.Phase II Afterglow - Thirty-two years in the making ... and not a moment too soon!. $14.66

Phelios - Astral Unity
(Malignant: TumorCD44)
 |
Following two CDs on Eternal Soul and a recent split LP on LOKI, Germany’s revered dark ambient project Phelios makes their first appearance for Malignant. With its swirling cosmic drones and sweeping, cinematic drift, the music of Phelios is breathtaking and hypnotic, often evoking moments of serenity and beauty, yet spiking them with deep cushions of ritualistic percussion and textural squalls that suggest something much more ominous and threatening looms on the vast horizon. Collectively, Astral Unity is thoughtful and concise – a vivid and richly detailed entity that’s alive and constantly evolving, channeling the universe while simultaneously exploring the inner regions of a more primordial earth. In 6 panel digipak, with gold foil stamping.. $12.00

After releasing the stunning "A Summerhaze Array for August Nights" 2 cd boxed set, now comes this new effort from Procer Veneficus. Profane Grace - Nocturnal Omniscience
(Indiestate: IST075)
 |
The first new full-length album from this long standing project since 2003. Devotees of PG's unique brand of cryptic and sepulchral gloom, haunting rituals, and somber symphonic incantations will be "happy" to know that not much has changed in that time, except maybe the production values, which have certainly gotten better. The release limited to 500 copies comes in a monochrome black mini LP-like cover with silkscreened elements.. $14.77

Rape-X - False
(At War With False Noise: Atwar038)
 |
First full album on proper CD from these degenerates. Rape-X play scuzzy, filthy power electronics; all crack dens, backstreet abortions and low-life criminal acts. There's a lot of ridiculously over-the-top Bloodyminded-esque PE going on here, delivered in a very metal style - but for me they're at their most effective on long, claustrophic passages such as "Arson" or the harrowing final track, "False". Dark, sub-industrial clanking in the background, behind walls of air-raid siren drones. Powerful. often brutal stuff, and not for the faint of heart.. $12.33
|
Rapoon - The Bush Prophet
(Ewers Tonkunst: IST079)
 |
“The Bush Prophet” is a brand new album from this legendary and highly influential project, which unique style of blending industrial, ethno-rhythmic and cut-up techniques has gained international recognition and made Rapoon one of the main artists in its genre. This work has an accent on more dark, hard and anxious sound constructions than most of its recent albums, it is full of tension and scepticism, but with no lack of inner hope though.Like it’s last year Soleilmoon release “Melancholic Songs Of The Desert”, it deals with isolationism and the myth of democracy. Manipulated by media and bombarded with political spin we live in a world where our political choices are reduced to almost zero. Faced with a hostile world and lies from every direction is it any wonder that there is a need to retreat to try and find some peace and humanity. The voices on the television make promises and soothing noises then wage unjust wars in our name. The lies fall like honey and nothing changes. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of "walkabout" and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation. The release is limited to 500 copies and comes in a stylish digisleeve with artwork by Robin Storey. $14.77

Rapoon - Wasteland Raga
(Aquarellist: Aqua11)
 |
Brand new release from ethno-ambient act Rapoon. "While I was recently traveling through Eastern Europe recently, I passed through an area of industrial decline that reminded me strongly of the devastation of the Industrial heartlands of the UK during the early Thatcher years. The broken windows and twisted metal of the abandoned warehouses, the derelict pit-heads and the ruined factories all brought back memories of that grim time when the divide between rich and poor was never so obvious. Yet amongst the derelict factories and the red-brick estates of the North of England new music and art sprang forth as if driven by the desolate conditions. Out of the darkness came forth beauty in many forms. Wasteland Raga is a remembrance of those times when art and politics held close and intertwined out of a real sense of purpose and unity... Viva revolution!!!". Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak with two artcards.. $14.77

Rome - L'Assassin mCD
(Trisol: TRI382)
 |
The Assassin - Murder? Crime of passion? Rome's new 'Chanson Noir' speaks of man's enslavement in a world of constant transformation. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more influential in their current work. Chansonniers like Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel and singer / songwriter heroes like Cave, Cash and Cohen are obvious influences. This is the darker side of singer / songwriter tradition: post-industrial-folk with elements of Electro-Pop, complex arrangements of breathtaking melodies, mesmerising ballads of lyrical beauty, underlining Rome's ethos of never faltering or remaining uninvolved. Features four songs, among which the exclusive and intimate track "One Flesh", along with reinvented, "stringed" versions of two classic tracks "Der Erscheinungen Flucht' and 'Der Brandtaucher' (from "Masse Mensch Material"). Rome: unmasked, honest and authentic! Digipak.. $12.00

Sehnsucht - Wuste
(Cold Spring: CSR124CD)
 |
Former MAYHEM front man MANIAC, whose band SKITLIV has proved to be a surprising departure from the Black Metal genre for which he was best known for over 20 years, has formed a side-project with fiancé Vivian Slaughter, bass player/vocalist with the Japanese all-girl band GALLHAMMER, SKITLIV's guitarist Ingvar Magnusson and experimentalist Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND). Unlike SKITLIV, which is a noise/doom amalgam, with Maniacs vocals still firmly rooted in Black Metal, SEHNSUCHT is in the noise / darkwave / ambient genre, with any vestiges of Black Metal pared away. 6-panel digipak.. $13.33

Sektor 304 - Soul Cleansing
(Malignant: TumorCD43)
 |
Equipped with a frightening and impressive array of primitive instrumentation pulled from junkyards and scrap metal heaps, this Portuguese outfit has delivered an astounding formal debut – a heady mixture of truly old school industrial in the vein of Einsturzende Neubauten, Test Dept , and S.P.K , and the grinding, bass heavy dirge of vintage Swans and Godflesh . These are anthems to the past, but geared towards an apocalyptic and bleak future… a form of counter-culture using what is most evident in modern western society: the debris, the abandoned objects, the waste, the noise, and the interference. With a solid foundation of rusty, oil drenched percussion, Sektor 304 adds layer upon layer of squalling industrial clangor, hammering metallic noise, grimy atmospheres, heaving masses of haunted factory drones, and threatening tribal batter, with a strong and commanding vocal presence. The sound here is almost physical in nature – provocative, persistent, and demanding. No one is doing what Sektor 304 is doing right now. Anyone into TRUE industrial (and that includes not just the aformentioned old guard, but also things like Strom.ec , Militia, Negru Voda , and Knifeladder ) really should not miss out.In 6 panel digipak, mastered by Steel Hook Audio. 3 tracks posted on the Malignant myspace, so be sure to check them out if you want an idea of what Sektor brings to the table. $12.00

Sewer Goddess/Diseased Oblivion - Split CDr
(Degenerate Slime Distro: DSD01)
 |
Lmtd 100 CDr split. Two tracks from SG kick things off - the first a nice slab of blackened, super heavy dirge with spoken vocals and some gently discordant feedback squall. The second track is all fucking doom - total morbidity, with down tuned bass, mutated guitar riffs, slow, crushing percussion, and ungodly, bloodcurdling screams. Maybe my favorite Sewer Goddess track of all time, which is really saying something. After this track, what Diseased Oblivion does is really inconsequential, but for the record, they deliver some high quality, death-doom: slow (naturally), towering, and heavily atmospheric with impossibly low, gurgling vocals that sound utterly inhuman. This just oozes evil. Lmtd stock that's sure to go fast, which is somewhat of a shame, because this could really stand to use a broader audience.. $9.00

Simon Kolle - Res Dej Inte!
(Neuropa: NRP24)
 |
An original motion picture soundtrack composed by Simon Kolle of Abnocto and Za Frumi fame, who of course was already making some pretty suberb cinematic music as is, just not offically part of a soundtrack like this is. According to the press release, the film is a dark, realistic story, following three youth gangs, their lives, and their time spent on the streets. Over a relatively short span the characters deal with paranoia, pain, violence and more. The film is powerful and grim, with the last scenes totally unforgettable. The plot comes to a sudden end and there are no truths about what really happened. More than a film, Res dej inte! is a comment about the ongoing violence in society. Suitably, the music is dark suspenseful, broken up into short segments and spanning a broad array of sounds. Mostly though this is heavily atmospheric and ambient, with occasional outbursts of a more violent and dramatic nature, as you might expect based on the plot. As it draws to an end, there's a series of rather structured, folky songs that I assume are important to the plot, though they're slightly out of place here. Easy to overlook in an otherwise strong piece of work.. $13.99

Sturmpercht - Schattenlieder
(Percht: Percht12)
 |
Three years have passed since Sturmpercht released their cult-album „"Geister im Waldgebirg"“. now the masters of ALPINE FOLK are back with their new album "„Schattenlieder - eine kleine Nachtmusik für Waldteufel und Berggeister“. The album features 20 diverse and unique songs full of alpine mystic, heathen legends and tales about strange fairies and pagan rites. "“Schattenlieder”" entrains you into deep forests, arcane mountains and dark chasms and guides you to hidden places in the depth of the central European forests, where hunters meet strange creatures from dusk til dawn. The atmosphere of the album varies between gnarled songs about creepy fairies, catchy folk hymns and dark songs about the hard life in high alpine regoins. The lyrics deal with alpine myths, forest tales and hunter sagas. “Schattenlieder” is the perfect "soundtrack" for misty autumn evenings as well as for dark winter nights. The album features a large variety of instruments and sounds: obscure, strange, folky, psychedelic, but always original and weird, in Sturmpercht's very unique way. “Schattenlieder” is a completely unpredictable album - each track is a "standalone", but contributes to the overall ambience of this alpine folk masterpiece and in the end the album creates a round, whole atmosphere. With almost 80 minutes of scary/dreamy folk songs, the album definitely sets a new benchmark within the Alpine Folk genre. $14.99

Sub Luna - Awake!
(Cyclic Law: 1stEclipse)
 |
Sub Luna is a Swedish duo formed by Mikael Lindblom (also a live collaborator for Karjalan Sissit) and Fredrik Sooberg. After four years of silence they return with their new album Awake! Their sound has definitely been refined and expands the framework established with their previous album, the double CD “"In The Shade of time". On this second album Sub Luna are merging the more traditional elements of the dark folk genre with influences from the world of pop and rock and thus avoid falling into trappings of the genre. Awake! Also symbolically marks the ending of one era and the beginning of another. These are songs of love and hate, nostalgia and progression, magic and loss... songs of protest from the age of nihilism. With a guest vocal appearance by Ann-Mari Thim (Arcana) and Mastering done by Peter Bjargo. Mesmerizing quality Folk Noir brought to you through Cyclic Law's new "Eclipse Series".Edition of 1000 copies in 4 Panel Digipack with 8 pages Booklet.. $12.50

TenHornedBeast - Hunts & Wars
(Cold Spring: CSR130)
 |
TenHornedBeast’s third album for Cold Spring was recorded from 2006-2009. This album introduces subtle changes to the established THB sound with delicate interludes separating longer tracks that rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism. “Hunts & Wars” progresses the established THB sound using leaden, sub-tuned bass guitar to create rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire. Influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany. "Hunts & Wars” seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these writers and is presented in a 6-panel digipak designed by graphic designer Kevin Yuen (Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room) to its full grotesque glory. The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise, monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest steps we are swept on to the eternal Hunts and Wars. $13.33

Trees - Freed of the Flesh
(Crucial Blast: CBR83)
 |
The mysterious Portland ensemble Trees returns with their second offering on Crucial Blast, Freed of This Flesh--two fetid death rituals scraped from the crypt. Both tracks average around fourteen minutes; extended death-rattles comprised of glacial riffs, tectonic percussive rumbles, anguished shrieks of torment and abject suffering, low-end growls and endless sheets of glistening, metallic feedback that spill across the distant edges of their sound. This is extreme, time-stretched ambient doom--a crumbling, blighted majesty adrift on putrescent tides. The austere slabs of crushing heaviness move so slowly that the music loses all sense of propulsion at times, becoming lost in a fog of howling amplifiers and buzzing feedback. Atmospheric guitars stretch into massive decomposing drones, the spaces between infested with controlled bursts of drums that skitter and rumble. Freed of This Flesh inhabits the same tar-black depths as Burning Witch, Monarch, Khanate and Bunkur, twisting slow-motion heaviness into their own skeletal configuration.. $11.66

Various Artists - Dark Ambient Radio Vol. II
(Dark Ambient Radio: DAR2)
 |
Re-stock. This compilation is the result of almost one year of careful design and polishing of cutting-edge dark ambient songs, good cooperation, and intense competition. After already releasing a very good compilation with Vol.1, Dark Ambient Radio managed to raise the level with this superb collection of dark ambient music. This is not a big surprise since the 11 songs on the CD were selected out of 26 quality tracks that have been submitted during 2008 and would have been sufficient to release a good 2CD compilation. The selection of the tracks was a painful but fair process as the participating artists voted for the tracks individually and the agglomerated rating decided which tracks ended up on the compilation. So you can be sure that there is no weak track on the CD. All tracks have been done exclusively for this compilation. Featuring: Tholen, Inner Vision Laboratory, Aspectee, Phelios, Crepuscular, Nagual Art, Troum, Phobos, False Mirror, and more!. $13.33

Various Artists - Fear Drop Vol. 15 Magazine/CD
(Fear Drop: Fear15)
 |
Latest issue of this French magazine, this time all in French (imagine that!). Obviously, if it were just a zine, I probably wouldn't carry it, but the fact that this comes with a CD featuring new material from Thomas Koner, Francisco Lopez, BJ Nilsen, Michael Northam, Black to Comm and others obviously makes it more appealing. Nonetheless, it is a beautifully presented issue and features articles/interviews with some of the above, as well as reviews and pics.. $16.50

Various Artists - In Hoc Signo Vinces
(Black Goat records: BGR025)
 |
Four way split containing new tracks from Halo of the Sun, Gnaw Their Tongues, The Arm and the Sword of the Bastard God, and the Slaughtered Lamb. Black metal, doom metal, black ambient, and however you want to classify GTT, any way you slice it, the stuff on here is grimey, bleak and fiendishly downtempo. Worth it for GTT alone of course, but the 26 minute ritual/ambient epic from The Slaughtered Lamb is not to be missed.. $12.50

Velehentor - From the Gloom of Graves/Stonewells of Aeternity
(Abgvrd: Smersh02)
 |
Other project of Anton Sheforostov of Closing the Eternity fame that's full of hopelessness and dread - but of course, you'd probably expect that based on the title. Down tempo and depressed washes of solemn and murky electronic soundscapes that move slowly through a foggy haze, with touches of dark ritualism. Gloom is the operative word here and feelings of emptiness and and despair run rampant throughout. Doesn't necessarily sound like Profane Grace (at least the majority of the time) but will appeal to the same crowd.. $10.66
|
Visions - Summoning the Void
(Cyclic Law: 24thCycle)
 |
Following in the foot steps of the acclaimed "Lapse" album released in 2005, "Summoning The Void" offers a deeper and more refined rendering of previously explored themes. This is unmistakably VISIONS, but a notch above in terms of spaciousness and musicality and there's an even more profound spirituality transpiring from these tracks. Passages that are more solemn and austere give way to ritualized motifs where voices from the void whisper words beyond words. And then, calm drifts bearing a more aerial and streamlined quality emerge, from which shards of light cut through the massive pitch-black backdrop where a bulging red sun awaits in the distance, endlessly and slowly consuming itself. Beyond that, nothingness. Void. This is the journey where Visions wants to lead us, a world and non-world of infinite proportions, a macrocosmic voyage through the hidden and intangible vastness of all...for we are stardust...Edition of 1000 copies in A5 foldout cardboard sleeve with embossed lettering.5 Tracks. Running Time 53:90. $12.50

Voice of Eye - The Portland Improvisations
(Conundrum Unlimited: CU5)
 |
In August of 2009, Soriah invited Voice of Eye to play for his Atlan CD release party in Portland, Oregon, USA. In the anxious hours before a show what does Voice of Eye do to unwind and pass the time? Well, play a little music of course! Scouring Soriah’s house for instruments, they commandeered some unfamiliar and handmade devices to play with. The result is The Portland Improvisations, where Voice of Eye are at their most raw and unadorned. Here are three minimalist improvisations that float in dark time haunting the listener with lost landscapes from distant worlds. Minimal and oppressively ominous, capturing Voice of Eye in what has to be considered their classic style - unstructured and hypnotic, full of beautiful and blissful sonic wanderings. Also included as a bonus track is “The End of All Things”, the latest studio recording by Voice of Eye about the loss of a hard drive. The track lures the listener in and then liquidizes and deconstructs all hope leaving a powerful and ravishing emptiness stripped of embellishment. Full color digipack and disc design by Jim Wilson. Limited Edition of 500. Recommended!. $12.50

Von Thronstahl - Bellum Sacrum Bellum
(Eternal Pride: EPPXVII)
 |
Eternal Pride Prod. present re-release the third and arguably best album of Von Thronstahl. Originally released in July 2003, "Bellum Sacrum Bellum" was the so far last official album by German Neo-classic act Von Thronstahl and was released more than 2 years after their latest release. The album is questioning the so called ‘just wars’ mentality of certain world leaders of these days and offers Von Thronstahl's usual mixture of neo-classical orchestrations and beat orientated bombast electro. CD is released in 6-pannel Digipak, with new design and golden panton.. $13.66

Around 140 minutes of fantastic music presented in a luxurious 6-panel digipak.. $15.66
|
Von Thronstahl - Return Your Revolt Into Style 2xCD

The album was originally limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and came in very special packaging: The CD was mounted on a glass plate inside a 6" black box with gold-embossed logo & title on front. Regarded as one of the most original and finest Von Thronstahl CDs, this is the first time, that this long ‘lost’ album is being re-released. All tracks have been digitally re-mastered. This special re-release furthermore comes with a second CD, densely packed with rare remixes, different versions of well known tracks and a number of previously unreleased, exclusive tracks! 8-panel digipak in slipcase. |
Vril & Fear Konstruktor - Element of Steel
(R.O.N.F. Records: RNF053)
 |
Relatively long tracks of cold experimental digital electronics, dense and complex noisescapes, multilayered frequences of sounds ranging from ambient to noise, always evolving.... and you're right. It reminds us of AUBE, but in a more complex and dense way, BAD SECTOR but without his melodic soundscapes, MERZBOW but in a quieter mood, the new DISSECTING TABLE, but without his usual sampled metal sounds.... well, a lot of other acts but nothing in particular. The whole album is well-crafted, highly structured, with tracks starting quiet, ambient, and evolving to noise. 5 instrumental tracks, one with processed vocals and the last one as the final conclusion.. $12.00
|
Welter in thy Blood - Through the Fields of Mourning CD
(Shadowgraph: Shadow04)
 |
New release from this LA based funeral -doom-ambient-black-metal hybird, offering an hours worth of foul, impure atmospheres and desolate hopelessness. This moves like tar….ultra sparse and depressive, with extended passages of ever so subtle, shifting textures and minimal drones that eventually rise to meet blackened guitar sludge, with crashing cymbals and whispered vocal torment, before drifting back into an ambient abyss. Music you probably don’t want to listen to if you’re on the verge of suicide, or mass murder.. $10.66
|
Wicked Messenger - The River Disappeared Sidewards
(Plague Recordings: Plague05)
 |
Seriously dark and foreboding ambience here from Wicked Messenger. I mean really, where have I been that I haven't heard this guys stuff until now? More active than Visions, with deep, reverberating synth waves resonating across a blackening horizon, hinting at something massive and sinister looming just out of sight. Top notch.. $14.50
|
Wicked Messenger - Vision Rites And Techniques of Ecstacy
(Plague Recordings: Plague010)
 |
Other than having seen them periodically on Myspace, I confess I don't know much about this project. But now, even that acounts been deleted, so I have only the music to go on, which is ultimately all that matters anyhow of course. Normally I wouldn't even care, but the material is strong enough that it piqued my curiosity to find out more about this project and it just suprised me I hadn't actually heard anything before. So, what exactly do we have here? 7 tracks of deliciously dark, mystical, and occult inspired drift that floats and weaves it's way through abandoned Mayan temples and steamy Central American jungles. Minimalistic, bleak, desolate, and very haunting....what more do you need?. $14.50
|
Wolfskin feat. Last Industrial Estate - Stonegates of Silence
(Malignant: TumorCD46)
 |
And so the journey formally ends for Wolfskin, 15 years from whence it began with the release of the Hidden Fortress cassette back in 1995. The essence of Wolfskin has transformed and mutated throughout the years, reaching on "The Stonegates of Silence" it's simpler form….one of desolation, solitude, insanity and death, the final frontiers of human existence. As he did with The Hidden Fortress: A Revisitation CD, Wolfskin once again pairs up with Anders Peterson of Objekt 4 fame, now operating under the name of Last Industrial Estate for the purposes of this recording. This is Wolfskin at its bleakest and most restrained, offering 5 tracks of enveloping ambience built around foggy, ambiguous textures and an endless flow of drifting isolationism, shapeless horrors, and oppressive subterranean heaviness. In the case of Stonegates, Wolfskin goes out not with a bang, but with a slow, evolutionary creep into the shadows, forever etched in the lexicon of dark ambient music. In 4 panel digipak.. $11.00
|
Yen Pox - Blood Music 2CD
(Malignant: TumorCD41)
 |
15 years after it’s original release, and out of print for almost as long, Yen Pox’ Blood Music has finally been re-issued. Regarded by many as a benchmark recording within the realm of dark ambient music, this deluxe 2CD edition contains a completely re-mastered and remixed version of Blood Music plus a previously unreleased track on disc 1, as well as the first cassette and various compilation and 7” releases on disc 2. Combined, the discs offer well over two hours of colossal, mind bending atmospherics of the highest order, the sounds radiating outwards into a sprawling horizon of sulfur dark skies, then descending into a relentless maelstrom of shifting textures, treacherous reverberations, and endless, sinister drift. Packaged in a luxurious 8 panel DVDdigipak, with completely new design by Andre Coelho (Sektor 304), this is the perfect marriage of both music and packaging, and will further solidify Blood Music’s status as one of the all time classic dark ambient releases.. $14.50
