Jarl - Amygdala Colours - Hemisphere Rotation CD ( Reverse Alignment: RA-21)
Jarl has a long discography behind him with more than 15 releases since his solo project started in the early years of the millenia. Describing his music as unbalanced, turbulent, withdrawn electronics that focus on isolation he's made an impact on the electronic scene defining an own explicit sound. "Amygdala Colours - Hemisphere Rotation" is the second album on Reverse Alignment and follows the critically acclaimed "Case 1959 - Dyatlov". But where previous album explored the external mysteries of Dyatlov 1959 Jarl take us unto an internal trip through the structures and events of the cognitive mind with a main focus on the Amygdala, where the processing of memory, decision-making, and emotional reactions occur. This album is built with layers of sound which slowely gets audible and disappears psychedelically. A variation of electronic and acoustic treatments has been used and the whole album is a mastodon track passing 50 minutes. As usual, the listener gets a mixture of drone, ambient and industrial that are molded perfectly into "that" typical Jarl-ish sound that sure wont dissapoint. Accompanied with the musical expression comes astonishing work from Karolina Urbaniak who designed the cover.. $12.88

Jarl - Case 1959 - Dyatlov 2CD ( Reverse Alignment: RA-12)
Erik Jarl is active as Jarl since autumn 1999 and member of postindustrial act IRM. He has released CDs on several different record labels through the years and describe his music as turbulent, withdrawn electronics. A mixture of ambient, industrial and drone. This new double CD consists of three long tracks, the longest Jarl has done so far. Artwork and photography is done by the outstanding artist Karolina Urbaniak.
This recording is based upon Dyatlov Pass Incident which took place in northern Ural Mountains in Russia during winter 1959. It resulted in the deaths of nine ski-hikers and until today, although some sources claim they have the solution, the cause of the events remains an unsolved mystery.. $14.33

Jarl - Out of Balance ( Malignant: TumorCD14)
Side project of Erik Jarl, member of the revered and immensely powerful heavy electronics outfit IRM. Jarl doesn’t come with the aggression of that project, but it does evoke similar feelings of instability and dementia via more atmospheric means. The disc consists of 17 tracks in total, each flowing into each other, with the early pieces having an almost cosmic heaviness (a la Inade)…pulsing and weighty, the sounds of winds sweeping across a barren and distant orb. As it progresses however, the seeds of profound sickness and decay are planted and begin to blossom…the tones and textures becoming more surreal and unsettling, the drones a bit more persistent and penetrating, abandoning listeners in a white walled room to confront their inner demons and degenerating psyche as it spirals, out of balance. Jarl - Vertigo Rebirth ( Autarkeia: ACD053)
Vertigo Rebirth is the fourteenth album of Swedish composer Erik Jarl and the third and last part of the Vertigo trilogy. It is difficult to say anything more about Jarl’s music on the whole. Like the earlier albums, this one generates particularly severe emotions that could be shortly defined as isolation, intoxication and especially negative, poisonous intuition. This impression is enhanced by the contrast. Erik opens the album with a track that has a construction uncharacteristic to his previous compositions. This composition contains quite strange rhythmics and is rather dynamic, which generates deceptive elation. But that’s only the first track of the album. The rest fling the audience back to the cold uncompromising space of drone, piercing and crushing all attempts to perceive the phenomenon of Jarl’s impasse. This is one more remarkable album for potential suicides.. $10.67

Jason Van Gulick - Entelechy ( Idiosyncratics: IDCD08)
Anyone who's seen him performing either solo, sharing the bill with Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O)))), Chris Corsano, N.U. Unruh (Einstürzende Neubauten), or along with Carla Bozulich / Evangelista, Y.E.R.M.O. or French based collective DEGA! will confirm: Jason Van Gulick definitely counts among the most inventive and talented drummers in the music scene nowadays.
His dynamite loaded though subtle and masterfully executed performances, mixtures of wild rhythms and abstract soundscapes made him a quite a name in the last years and it was about time for Jason to release his first solo album.
Entelechy combines electroacoustic textures with more musical, "free" drumming passages. Formerly trained as an architect, Van Gulick puts an important focus on natural resonance and often performs in locations chosen for their acoustic specificities. Therefore, Entelechy has been entirely recorded in resonant spaces such in Brussels as a squat called RTT and young but already legendary underground concert venue HS63.
The album has been mixed by RIPIT and mastered by Frederic Alstadt at Angstrom, Brussels.
Recommended!. $8.00
