Aelter - Dusk Dawn/Follow You Beloved 2CD ( Crucial Blast: CBR98)
One of several side-projects to emerge from the Wolvserpent camp, Aelter is the solo effort of Wolvserpent guitarist Blake Green. With Aelter, Blake explores a similar realm of dark majestic sound to Wolvserpent, with his massive downtuned guitar roar and bleak minor key melodies being the common thread between the two projects. But where Wolvserpent blends this chugging Melvins-esque heaviness and haunting slowcore arpeggios with violins, pounding drums, and a propensity for extended hypno-dirges, Aelter dispenses with the drums almost completely and goes for a more cinematic approach using layered keyboards and gorgeous harmonized voices that reminds me of something you would have heard on Beggers Banquet or 4AD being fused to a malevolent black heaviness. Both of the Aelter albums were only released on vinyl in limited editions of a few hundred copies and are close to going out of print completely, but we have now gathered both Dusk Dawn and Follow You Beloved together in a double disc set.. $12.50

Apoptose - Nordland ( Tesco: Tesco041)
Time to travel north again: Apoptose's long out of print first album "Nordland" is back - even more beautiful than before. On its release in the year 2000 Nordland instantly became a cult record for lovers of orchestral ritualistic soundsculptures. Like ancient stone circles on barren landscapes the solemn music reminds of an age when the eternal cycle of growth and decay ruled human life. Finally this ambient classic is available on CD again. The album was carefully remastered to ensure that favourite tracks like "Abschied von der Sonne", "Nordlicht" or "Nidstang" sound better than ever. The bonus track "Svartisen" originating from same era as the Nordland recordings enhances the line-up. So even those who know Nordland for ages will discover some new facets of this gem. Additionally the designers revisited the whole artwork and created something completely new to compliment the timeless music. The CD is housed in a multiple-panel fold-out cover featuring a separate cardboard CD-sleeve. Here's my original catalog description: "A new German project inspired by the ancient order of the megalitic graves. Flowing orchestral movements and somber droning soundscapes with a bleak, windswept feel reminiscent to some degree of Les Joyauxs work on Les Petits Enfant. Rounded off with some nice ritual percussion. Haunting, introspective work that recalls a forgotten time.".. $15.77

Atrax Morgue - Paranoia ( Old Europa Café: OECD031)
Re-print of this long sold-out album from 2000. Atrax Morgue was the project of Italian musician Marco Corbelli, also owner of the infamous Slaughter Productions. Corbelli committed suicide by hanging on 6th May 2007 after years of internal torment, a lot of which was reflected in his music...psychotic, ready to kill vocals, self-abusing electronic sounds mixed with dangerous feedback & noises... an isolationist & disgusting soundtrack for disturbed maniacs with multiple personality disorders.. $14.33

Bizarre Uproar - Viha & Kiima ( Freak Animal: BUFAVK01)
Since 1992, Bizarre Uproar remains one of the leading figures in Finnish noise. Their latest album, Viha & Kiima, is unleashed as an LP/CD by Freak Animal and Filth & Violence and is aculmination of the current style, showing the side of the band seen via recent live assaults as well as on the already classic "Musta Rotta" 7". 4 long tracks of amplifier torment captured in a rehearsal bunker, combining the best elements of BU's live-in-studio approach. Fierce and crude results, with a very natural flow of physical and concrete sound, taking a good dose of the most violent elements of power electronics and drenching it with loud rusty harsh noise. CD with F&V CD style soft clear poly-box with full color artwork by J.Siikala.. $12.00

BVDUB - I Remember (Translations of Morketid) ( Glacial Movements: GM011)
“Alessandro Tedeschi, aka Netherworld, has become a dear friend of mine since his kind invitation to produce an album for Glacial Movements last year, and his vision, kindness, and honesty have been an inspiration. He had sent me a copy of his album ‘Mørketid,’ and from the opening notes I was mesmerized – not in a typical way, as his music is far too subtle for that, but on a much deeper level, as the music brought a flood of memories surging forth that I had long thought lost. It took me back to those times when ambient music was so pure, and so true… so when he then asked if I would be interested in doing a translation of the album, I couldn’t have said yes any faster. I call them translations, as they are not remixes. I used his original work as a base, and it is indeed interwoven in the translations, but my translations serve more as my own narratives on the memories and feelings his original work evoked. The translations are about memories… memories of dreams lost, and never fulfilled… but also the beauty in knowing that dreams exist… as whether they come true or not, it’s in their pursuit that life means anything. The original album brought back all my memories of my time in the early rave scene, the dreams I (and everyone, really) had for the beautiful utopia that only existed in our minds, and which we were only able to reach but a few times – but also my current surroundings of China, where in a rapidly changing environment, I am constantly reminded of unrealized dreams – deserted buildings that stand as monuments of once-great visions, and echoes of so many voices once yearning to be heard, wanting only for the world to remember them for a moment. And so it has been a strange kind of full-circle experience, as I stand in this place with no connection to my former life, yet in it I realize that every ‘scene’ is the same – we all just want to be heard, by someone - and to be remembered.” Really beautiful, relaxing and flowing drones, and textures that are ethereal and peaceful.. $13.66

Contagious Orgasm - Escape ( Ant-Zen: Act261)
With 'Escape' Contagious Orgasm continue to plough their uniquely peculiar furrow of audio experiments and self improvement, exploring the strange landscapes of numerous musical styles. Dealing with influences ranging from ambient, dub, idm/electronica and electro to dark ambient and noise, it is an impossible task to completely comprehend this album's scope within just a few listens. This aural voyage atmospherically varies from hypnotic echo-based beat pulses and moony synthesized melodies up to disturbing industrial soundscapes. Mighty bass strokes, a multitude of different rhythms, manipulated voices and skillfully applied samples result in an adventurous and enthralling work of sonic art captivating with its deep, transparent production. Turn off the light and let yourself fall into this album's very own flow. Dawn & Dusk Entwined - A L'Aube des Jours Anciens ( Aube & Crepuscule: A&C05)
“A l’aube des jours anciens” is a journey through ancient and mythical lands of Europe, long before the kings and the only God. A soundtrack from mythical and magical times when no one remembers when reality became legend, when mythology met history. The strength, the sense of epic and enthusiasm evoked by powerful and tribal influenced percussions: thunder and lightenings as drums, the genuine sound of the carnyx (the Celtic horn of war) amongst other ancient sounds, strongly sang vocals and memorable tunes give sense of this mythical evocation... An almost physical experience, a direct link to the old heathen forces... The music presents a fine taster of neo-classical, pounding martial, ambiant and neo-folk - and many more - that has for some years become the recognizable D&DE trademark, and defies the rigid confines of the "industrial genre"…. $13.66

Exocet - Consquence ( Ant-Zen: Act268)
Two years after 'Grotesque Consumer', R. Klimaczewski a.k.a. Exocet starts his artistic vision exactly where he left off with 'Consequence'. A high quality detailed mesh of harsh sonic strikes, intricate rhythmic patterns, massive synth layers and cinematic samples which reflect his own perspective on idm, ambient and industrial music. Exocet's work defines itself by emphasizing the juxtaposition between huge atmospherics and a blasting force of noise and beats. As displayed throughout the album where assertive and imaginative ambient pads float along-side hammering rhythmic patterns, inducing an almost trance-like effect. tribal elements sometimes beat their way through the mix and add yet another perspective on the already heady mix of different sonic characteristics, and perfectly positioned samples just manage to emphasize the film score feel and quality of the tracks. Both a strongly abrasive and microscopically detailed world of sound, 'Consequence' brings out a unique blend of influences that takes its own path, changing direction at will, capturing the listeners interest with an iron grip.. $14.66

Gnaw Their Tongues - Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus ( Crucial Blast: CBR93)
Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus. Roughly translated, with blood and whip, we worship the dark. This is the latest collection of atrocities from Gnaw Their Tongues, an eight song investigation into the rites and rituals that emerge from the copper-scented frenzy of the serial killer, the obsessive acts of death worship enacted by those that live on the edge of abyss, the limits of experience sought by black cults. The sound is, as always, immensely heavy, with fractured drums and tunderous tympani skins reverberating within a maelstrom of seething black doom, screeching classical strings, horns, piano, and some of the most vomitous vocals imagineable. However, Per Flagellum Sanguemque is marked by the most frenetic percussive attack that we have heard from Gnaw Their Tongues, with volleys of chaotic drumming, fractured blasts, and maniacally complex patterns that sometimes seem to border on free-jazz drumming. The band has rarely sounded as nauseating and depraved as it does on the opener "Hic Est Enim Calix Sanguinis Mei", where putrid bass riffs and lurching double bass drums spasm and thunder over the harrowing tension of atonal strings and the layered screams of the eviscerated; when the chaos suddenly drops out and we are left alone with the sounds of a woman gagging as somber strings slowly rise from below, it is one of Gnaw Their Tongue's more unsettling moments. The classical elements take over on "Human Skin For The Messengers Robe", where pleas for mercy are drowned out by blasts of evil, dissonant piano, demonic bloodlust-driven shrieks, and halting, lumbering percussion that eventually leads into the terrifying wail of choral groups rising out of the guts of Hell. Conversely, the soaring harmonies and strings that take form on "Urine Soaked Neophytes" allow for brief moments of repreive from the surging black chaos, breaking into shafts of heavenly glory that peirce through the evil cacophony for a moment before being swallowed back up by the lurching amoirphous doom. French horns and Wagnerian strings dominate "Tod, Wo Ist Dein Licht", and on "Fallen Deities Bathing In Gall", the strings rise in series of high drones like some horrific Bernard Hermann nightmare as monstrously distorted overdriven bass crawls and buzzes and the drums are whipped into a frenzy of rolls and fills, fractured blastbeats pounding against the background and a jagged blackened anti-groove takes shape and claws it's way into a field of mangled, mewling black ambience. The remainder of the album offers no relent from the pain; "Bonedust On Dead Genitals" is an agony ritual fueled by industrial clank and the slow pound of a kettledrum as death-chants, blow-out doom bass and wild beasts roar and gibber in fury, and on "The Storming Heavens As A Father To All Broken Bodies" we are thrown a curveball when the song immediately lurches into an assault of fucked-up industrial black metal with blastbeats chooped up and splattered across the orchestral insanity in a manner reminiscent of electro-death mutants Whourkr. The album ends with the stentorian brass fanfare and hellish descent of the title track, a nearly ten minute exercise in grueling horror where chains meet flesh, throats are torn on the torture wheel, and a female voice recites lines from Charlotte Mew's death-poem "The Quiet House".. $10.33

Heldentod began in 2005 as an outlet for research into the little-known corners of 20th-Century history. Herbst9 - Usumgal Kalamma 2CD ( LOKI: LOKi56)
What began with the previous releases, "Buried Under Time and Sand" and "The Gods Are Small Birds..." comes now to the final chapter and climax, with an epic double album, Usumgal Kalamma: "The written word that has come down to us through the discovery of the ancient civilizations of Sumer and Akkad and the deciphering of their languages and writing systems speaks of flourishing city-states, their holy places, their great rulers, their deeds in peace and war, their gods and demons, their rituals, their tales of creation and much more." Usumgal Kalamma is a huge and rich soundwork, divided into two parts that transport the listener into the realms of the archaic world. It is an invitation to explore a mythic age in history whereby the inventions of these people are still connected with us today. Intense ritualistic and percussive drumming melt with deep atmospheric drones, invocations, otherwordly tones and various acoustic instruments such as gongs, bells and zither. This sonic prayer is Herbst9´s trademark of a ritual infused dark ambient style and an essential document that combines historical background with sound art. Comes in a box with a 32-pages booklet. $18.50

Hypsiphrone - And The Void Shall Pierce Their Eyes ( Black Plagve: Infect09)
Debut album from this one man project from Greece, and a new entry into the Black Plague roster, fitting right in with label mate’s Sewer Goddess in its ability to create innately evil and impure sounds, integrating elements of doom metal, black metal, and dark experimentalism into the pure industrial horror that constitutes the majority of this release. The result is nothing short of absolute and abject dread; 8 tracks spanning an hour worth of material…an auditory overload that’s completely immersive, and at times overwhelming , where heaving masses of percussive doom collide with shuddering machinery dirge, ghoulish and nightmarish ambience, torturous screams, and cinematic depravity, the sounds layered into a tangled and abstract tapestry of something completely epic and nearly majestic in its scale. Fans of Gnaw Their Tongues, Abruptum, and “Necrose Evangelicum” era BDN will do well to wallow in the oozing blackness and unbridled malevolence Hypsiphrone has created. Kristoffer Nystroms Orkester - Overlook Hotel CD ( Malignant: TumorCD50)
Overlook Hotel heralds the return of the mighty KNO, the collaborative project between Swedish industrial legend Peter Nystrom (Megaptera, Negru Voda), and Norwegian up and comer Kristoffer Oustad (V:28, Plague Machinery). 5 years after the highly acclaimed brakeHEAD CD, KNO welcomes you into the Overlook Hotel, where every room has a ghost, and every room has a story to tell. Travel the hallways and explore, as you venture into a more cerebral musical state than what brakeHEAD offered, where ghostly transmissions and hypnotic layers of surreal, ethereal atmospheres intersect with disembodied voices, clattering, furnace blasting percussion, and of course, healthy injections of true, old fashioned industrial noise and sweeping doom, done in the best Scandinavian style (imagine if Deutsch Nepal had continued in the same path laid down by Benevolence and you start to get the idea). The pacing of the album is truly impeccable, flowing seamlessly from to track, as if moving from room to room in a hazy, dream state, the layering and cohesiveness on a whole nothing short of meticulous. The original track is there, but also included is a fierce remix track by legendary sound artist Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND). Collaborative project between M.Todd(Transcendent Device) and L.Kerr(Steel Hook Prostheses), resulting in 8 tracks of purely malevolent and murky darkness - minimal and claustrophobic tonal drifts emanating from the shadows of the crypt, akin to Archon Satani, early Lustmord, and Yen Pox. Necrophorus - Underneath the Spirit of Tranquility (Redux) ( Wrotycz: WRT014)
“Underneath the Spirit of Tranquility” (redux version) by Necrophorus (Peter Andersson from raison d'être) is a painted story canvas for the otherwise unreachable astral world. Adorned with esoteric ambiences, one feels as though embarking on a path of inner ascension while breathing the immaterial tranquilities. This redux version of 'Underneath the Spirit of Tranquility' (originally released in 1996 on Cat's Heaven) has been carefully re-mixed for enhanced experience and spiced with two additional tracks. The artwork consists of drawings by Elinros Henriksdotter. Comes in a folding cover with 6 extra charts. Strictly limited to 500 copies. Ethereal, richly layered, exotically beautiful, and otherworldly atmospheres that I always thought was some of Necrophorus' best work. 15 years later, this totally stands the test of time.. $13.77

Negru Voda - Vald de Luxe 3CD ( Malignant: TumorCD42)
Originally begun as a side project to the new defunct Megaptera, the purpose of Negru Voda was to be a more personal and expressive solo outlet for death industrial veteran Peter Nystrom. Compared to the perhaps darker, more layered sound of Megaptera, Negru Voda is stripped down, unrefined, and to the point – old school, true to form, and primitive industrial music heavily influenced by pioneering electronic artists such as Test Dept, S.P.K., The Klinik, Cabaret Voltaire, Severed Heads, and the like. Primarily built upon a strong foundation of punishing and persistent rhythms and cold, analogue pulsations, these are colossal soundscapes, where harsh, factory corrosion is met with insidious waves of distorted, electro-shock blasts streaked with highly ominous and bleak atmospherics as fueled by pints of lager, drams of Islay single malt, alienization, media wastelands, and cold Scandinavian winters. With Vald de Luxe, Malignant presents a comprehensive 3CD overview of the complete Negru Voda sound, combining a slew of new, unpublished recordings, coupled with a collection of out of print, completely re-mastered works, including the full length Dark Territory CD (Old Europa Café, 1998), plus 3 bonus tracks, as well as the des Esseintes split 10” (Fin de Siecle, 2001) and the AVA: (dunk) picture 7” (Formosan, 2002). Also featured is the enlisted help of such notables as Magnus Sundstrom (des Esseintes, The Protagonist), Ulf Soderberg (Sephiroth), Kristoffer Oustand (V:28, K.N.O., Plague Machinery), and Christian Pallentin (P.A.L). Few can stake claim to the immeasurable influence and legacy of Peter Nystrom, and with Vald de Luxe, it becomes immediately evident that authentic, old school Swedish industrial still reigns supreme. In 8 panel digipak, with exquisite design by Kristoffer Oustad and Marten Kellerman.. $15.33

Nekrasov - The Ever-Present 2xCDr/Art-Zine ( Crucial Blast: Blaze13)
That Australian black metal/industrial artist Nekrasov incorporates the aesthetics of harsh noise into his miniature holocausts of hellish speakershred isn't news to anyone who has been following his body of work over the past few years. From the beginning, Nekrasov's mechanized black blasts and sprawling abyssal soundscapes have been infested with the most caustic forms of electronic abuse and frequency terror. But starting with the extremely limited disc In Solitude And Darkness, The Last Step Is Made that came out on Void Séance last year, Nekrasov has now also started to work with the rigid aesthetic of the "wall", sculpting brutal, immersive infernos of extreme static noise that are reminiscent of Vomir. The mindset is certainly similar; going for extremely long unbroken tracks of churning high density distortion that remains unrelenting and unchanging, Nekrasov's efforts in HNW drag me down into the same sort of depressed, lightless Zen state that the French master is so adept at invoking. This is no small feat. In Solitude was a successful first effort in the field of HNW from the artist, and now follows that with a new two-disc set called The Ever-Present that we have issued on our Crucial Blaze sub-label. This set offers more massive black walls of rushing static noise, with two half hour long pieces on the first disc, and a single monolithic track on the second disc that stretches out for over an hour. Each of these tracks is formed from varied frequency levels and different approaches to texture, shifting in tone and extremity as the listener moves from one track to the next, but it all flows together rather seamlessly as an exercise in intense, super heavy trance-blast. In addition, deep listening reveals myriad sonic events and nuked drones that swarm deep within the maelstrom of The Ever-Present, and the monolithic "III" in particular ventures into more detailed regions of noise where fragments of grinding rhythmic clank, smoldering static riffs, and howling blackened melodies can be heard buried underneath the roaring inferno. It's the the heaviest slab of "pure" noise work that we've heard from Nekrasov so far, that's for sure. Fans of the band's more "black metal" centric work are warned that when we describe this as a noise album, we're not kidding. But for fans of HNW and Nekrasov's more abstract industrial side, The Ever-Present is a crushing experience. The two discs are packaged inside of the clear dvd-style case like all Crucial Blaze titles, and include a sticker, 1" pin, and a twenty-eight page zine filled with black and white collage art, with murky, inky visions of all-devouring blackness, carcinogenic landscapes, cathedral-like tumor masses, amoebic growths, and Watchers from behind the shadows. Hand-numbered and limited to two hundred copies.. $12.00

New Risen Throne - Loneliness of Hidden Structures ( Cyclic Law: 38thCycle)
New full length album by Italy's New Risen Throne which marks a welcomed return to Cyclic Law. "Loneliness Of Hidden Structures" is the latest chapter of a series that began with "Whispers Of The Approaching Wastefulness" (Cyclic Law 2007) and continued on with "Crossing The Withered Regions" (Cold Meat Industry 2009). The first of this series is explained as the annunciation of the end, while the second part was expressing the advent of this end. Now this third chapter speaks of rebirth. Within the caves and ruins left by the destruction, there begins to form the first foundations and structures of a reconstruction that is in turn in constant evolution. The album's track listing is structurally organized in order to evoke that evolution: 1. The echoes of the end that travel through the empty regions ("Into Lungs declining structures", "Echoes from the loss") 2. New forms listening to the "silence" of a new world ("Loneliness", "New Risen Throne", "Lands filled with silence and grief") 3. Structures evolving and coming out from the shadows ("A vision of the hidden", "Breath of growing structures") Filled with New Risen Throne's now trademark sound of deep cavernous drones, processed voices and percussive moments, this new album is a superb follow up to his now impressive discography. Features exclusive remixes by Nordvargr and Northaunt. Edition of 1000 copies. Enhanced CD with a special Video Clip of the track New Risen Throne (I), comes in a 4 panel A5 folder. 9 Tracks. Running Time 60:00. $12.99

Nyodene D - Every Knee Shall Bow ( Assembly of Hatred: AOH05CD)
After numerous cassettes and CDr releases, Assembly of Hatred has unleashed the first proper CD release from Ohio based death industrial / power electronics act Nyodene D. And what a release it is. I don't have the entire Nyodene D discography, but I have enough to know that what he does crushes most of what else is out there, and Every Knee Shall Bow only solidifies that belief. Supremely ominous and dark synth atmospheres, augmented by some impossibly intense and highly abusive vocals, heaps of scrap metal abuse, well placed samples, pounding percussion, industrial detritus, and analog synth torture, falling somewhere between Navicon Torture Technologies, BDN, and Grunt. High praise indeed, but completely deserving and without question, one of the most powerful acts from the US operating in the heavy electronics field. This immediately rises to top 5 releases of the year so far for me.. $12.66

Of the Wand and the Moon - The Lone Descent ( Heiðrunar Myrkrunar: Heim010)
No More Happy Songs! The long awaited and anticipated 5th album from Denmark's Of The Wand & The Moon. Again Kim Larsen takes another road than the previous albums. 60's influenced, where the love for Lee Hazlewood and Serge Gainsbourg shines through. Still keeping the dark neofolk roots though, "The Lone Descent" is without doubt the most bleak and melancholy album from Of The Wand & The Moon, and clearly shows Larsen's brilliant talent as a singer/songwriter. Featuring among others ; Lorenzo Woodrose from Danish psychedelic rock act 'Baby Woodrose', Aron from Danish Psych/folk rock act 'Aron', danish Cellist Soma Allpass (Mew, Martin Hall, etc.), trumpet player Bo Rande (The William Blakes, Mew, Blue Foundation), John Murphy (Death In June, Knifeladder, Nico, SPK), John van der Lieth (Sonne Hagal) Anne Eltard (known for various Danish acts and Kim Larsens Solanaceae, OTWATM) and :Of The Wand & The Moon: engineer Louise Nipper 'Alouise'. Oureboros - Dreaming in Earth, Dissolving in Light ( Ant-Zen: Act260)
Oureboros is a collaboration founded in 2006 by Canadian artists Rich Oddie and Aron West a.k.a. Tnon. Oddie, West and Christina Sealey formed Orphx in 1993 to create psychedelic noisescapes inspired by early industrial music and the emerging japanese noise scene. In 1995, Oddie and Sealey began to incorporate more rhythmic elements into Orphx and the two have gone on to establish themselves as innovators in the fusion of techno and industrial music. West left to co-found Tropism - a diverse project encompassing harsh noise to discordant soundscapes to unclassifiable software based mutations. The Tropism catalogue now numbers in excess of 300 entries, and the project continues as Tropizm whose focus is all forms of experimental ambient electronics. On their first album, Oureboros deliver dark audio environments suitable as carriers to nether regions and beyond. The dense atmospheres vary from brooding to melancholic. Electro-acoustic soundscapes are supplemented by intermittent guitar, percussion, and violin, creating a captivating hybrid of synthetic and organic elements. Dddie and West present a unique fusion of deep ambient electronics, apocalyptic industrial, and ritualistic six-string walls of sound that evoke elements of black metal and shoegaze. The project's name is derived from the Ouroboros, an ancient symbol of self-reflexivity, cyclicality, continuous re-creation and renewal. referring to oureboros, a suspenseful further development can be expected after this magnificent debut.. $13.99

PBK/Josh Lay - Collaborative CD ( Syndrom Records: Syn005CD)
A new self titled split CD sees the collaboration of two artists on this release for Syndrom Records. American composer, Phillip B. Klingler, better known as PBK, has been active in the experimental music underground since 1986. His soundwork correlates to electroacoustic, classic industrial and free jazz genres. PBK has fashioned a noise-based music that doesn't rely on power electronics process, but rather, by placing noises themselves into ambient/atmospheric sound environments. His soundworks are composed from turntable manipulation, sampling and analog/digital synthesis. Improvising spontaneously and with little preconception, PBK creates pulsing, echoing, organic soundscapes of unknown sonic origin. Josh Lay combines his horror-noise approach with PBK's psychedelic synth improvisation into a deep, forbidding soundscape.. $11.00

Peter Bjärgö, the man behind the now legendary groups ARCANA and SOPHIA is back with his second solo album. On his first solo release "A wave of Bitterness", we got a glimpse into the mind of a thoughtful person. Now this new release, "The Architecture Of Melancholy", we are sent onto a journey to the darkest depths of Peter's mind and thoughts. Melancholy was once a disease, a mental statement of chronic depression, we are now facing this illness again around the world and this album is a real journey with the melancholic mind. Titles like Bitteresque, Apathy and The Death Of Our Sun give us an idea of the aural voyage ahead. The delicate blend of soft guitars, engulfing dark ambient and the sheer power of Peter's voice make this album a shining diamond among stones. Carefully manipulated field recordings layered with dense melodic drones, processed guitars and keyboards form the foundation of this body of work. Rasalhague - Rage Inside the Window ( Malignant: TumorCD49)
Following the self released 3inch CDr from a few years back, Rage Inside the Window is the astounding formal debut of Indiana based dark ambient artist Rasalhague, offering some of the most haunting, dread filled, and yet dynamic atmospheres we've come across in some time. Inspired by the true events of a young girl neglectfully imprisoned in filth and squalor by her thoughtless and uncaring mother. Rage Inside the Window takes the listener into the mind of a savagely depraved soul. Don't expect ambient of the spaced out, blissful, and softly textured variety. This is dirty and impenetrably dark, with an intertwining mass of demonic squalls, intense probing, highly ominous tonal drones, distant monolithic pulsations, and bleak isolationism. 6 lengthy tracks of pure psychological horror are presented here, with each piece segueing into each other in transforming waves, progressively getting darker, brooding, and more menacing as it goes. Finally, with the final track, some semblance of solace is achieved. Reference points can be made to Atrium Carceri, recent Raison d'Etre, and the like, but ultimately, Rasalhague operates within its own realm. In 6 panel, full color DVD Digipak. Sektor 304 - Subliminal Actions ( Malignant: TumorCD53)
The follow-up to the highly acclaimed Soul Cleansing CD finds Portugals Sektor 304 expanding on all aspects of their debut, once again channeling the essence of the old school guardians (Test Dept, SPK, Crash Worship), while simultaneously exploring new, uncharted territory. Comparatively speaking, Subliminal Actions is a more complete and focused album, with an even better flow than Soul Cleansing and more attention paid to detail, unleashing a cacophonic whirlwind of buzz saw grind, loops, power tools, and scraping, junk metal debris, clashing head on with exertive tribal percussion, clanging oil barrel rhythms, and industrial clamor resonating over a sprawling, post- apocalyptic wasteland. Some tracks, such as the opener, “A Carving on Metallic Flesh”, heap on the scorching noise, while others, such as the resounding, rhythmic driven “By The Throat”, “A Vessel of Guilt”, or “Vultures” are delivered with factory-line precision, laced with grimy layers of bass-heavy dirge, bleak, reverbed squall, and distortion filled, atmospheric drone. Among the many highlights, is the albums closer, “A Prismatic Sun”, a 10 + minute epic excursion into a nightmarish world, populated by whispered vocals and uneasy drift that slowly rises and grows in intensity, climaxing into a blissfully dark and sweaty orgy of low slung bass, ominous, ceremonial drumming, and suffocating darkness. Subliminal Action not only compliments Soul Cleansing, but takes the Sektor 304 sound to new heights, delivering yet striking record sure to solidify their standing as one of premier, truly industrial acts in operation today. 10 tracks, totaling 63 minutes, in 6 panel digipak, mastered by James Plotkin.. $11.00

Skin Area - Rothko Field ( Malignant: TumorCD52)
3rd full length release from this acclaimed Martin Bladh (IRM) project(in conjunction with Magnus Lindh), following 2002's New Skin CD and 2006's double CD Journal Noir/Lithium Path, both on Cold Meat Industry. Like previous works, Rothko Field is a highly charged and visceral auditory experience...mind bending and turbulent sonic explorations that are grainy and tense, where uneasy frequencies intersect with caustic drones, infected, insectile buzz, swelling drifts, and intense, slow motion percussion driven sludgery. Further comparison reveals Rothko Field to be less schizophrenic, less challenging, and more structured than in the past, coming off as both spacious and yet suffocatingly claustrophobic (and ultimately closer in style to IRM), suggestive of a spiral downwards into mental decay and degradation, and further enhanced by Martin's uniquely distressed and provocative vocalizations. 9 tracks total, broken into two "mirrored parts", with track 5, "Void"acting as the actual mirror itself. In digipak, with full color 24page booklet. Not to detract from previous releases, but this is easily the best Skin Area work to date, and a must for all things Martin Bladh!. $11.00

Terra Sancta - Sunken|Buried|Forgotten CDEP ( Malignant: TumorCD51)

A brand new CDEP from Terra Sancta, originally planned as part of the next full length release, but the tracks here are significantly different from the newer material being recorded as to warrant a separate release. Sunken|Buried|Forgotten should be seen as a sort of bridge between Terra Sancta's past and future recordings, the three tracks here (total time roughly 23 minutes) representing the heavy droning sound found on particular parts of Disintegration; swaths of roughly textured, post-industrial drift, propelled forth with a massive back weight into a crescendo of epic turbulence, leaving a wake of swirling cosmic debris in its path. Thorofon - Exkarnation ( Ant-Zen: Act254)
Thorofon was founded in 1995, and soon developed their own, easy-to-recognize style of industrial. Their prolific career in the international post-industrial scene began with their first album 'Maximum Punishment Solutions' back in 1997, followed by three full length and several ep releases on cd, vinyl and cassette format until the project ended up nine years later. In 2010 Thorofon announced their return and performed highly regarded live actions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With this album Thorofon strike a new musical path intended to renovate the artistic and musical tradition of legendary artists like Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Portion Control and SPK whose 'Flesh and Steel' is brilliantly covered. 'Exkarnation' holds recent compositions with significant references to classic industrial, minimal electro and angst pop realized with today's production skills. Economical, repetitive sequences encounter analogue beatbox grooves, enthralling electronic surfaces and well-considered voice and sampling treatments generate hypnotic, intoxicating atmospheres on a superior level. Based on the subjects of defleshing and the separation of soul and body, 'Exkarnation', aurally permutes the project's recent artistic state. After their flesh figuratively has been removed half a decade ago, they return to apply new substance showing the upgraded status reached by Thorofon.. $13.99

Our pre-industrial forebears expended considerable time and energy on conserving some of autumn’s bounty against the scarcity of winter… yet somehow, people would survive to till their fields again the following spring. The compilers of the first ‘John Barleycorn Reborn’ compilation, released in 2007, faced a similar embarrassment of riches - a testament both to English folk heritage and the health of the contemporary folk music scene. So here we have the second crop from that original sowing. Originally released for download only, now finally available as a stunning double CD, with every track completely remastered to the highest quality. 33 tracks from the cream of current dark British Folk music. Vortex - Rockdrill ( Cyclic Law: 35thCycle)
Vortex is a German sound art project from :Golgotha: and Aeterna member Marcus Stiglegger, challenging the boundaries of ritual and dark ambient music. After the critically acclaimed debut album "Phanopoeia" (2008) out on Tesco Organization and the media book/soundtrack "Silence" (:Ikonen: media 2009), the new full length album ‘Rockdrill’ continues on the same path and mobilizes acoustic instruments (guitar, percussion, piano), voice, electronics and samples to create a unique and very epic sound monument in 11 parts. Vortex is named after a modernist British art movement of the 1920s called Vorticism, headed by Ezra Pound and Wyndham Lewis. The new album ‘Rockdrill’ is especially inspired by a sculpture called ‘Rock Drill’by the Vorticist artist Sir Jacob Epstein (1880-1959). It was built according to his sketches in 1913-14 to symbolize 'the terrible Frankenstein's monster we have made ourselves into'. The sculpture had a huge influence on the Vorticist movement and inspired several cantos by Ezra Pound (LXXXV–XCV, Section: Rock-Drill, 1956). It was destroyed during the war and cast again in bronze in 1962. Epstein himself did not like the sculpture and decided to "save" only a part of the actual figure - not the rock drill itself. The concept of this album is to reconstruct the history, mood and allegory of this piece of sculptural art as well as its impact on modern art movements. A 12 page booklet adds rare visual documents to the whole.‘Rockdrill’ by Vortex is consciously caught between archaic and modern energies, between history and present. This truly complex album transcends the frontiers of ambient soundscapes in order to awake a nearly forgotten sense of beauty and grace within modernist avant-garde by using twisted rhythm patterns, pounding industrial percussion and fragile organic ambiance.Fans of Northern European post industrial acts will appreciate this album for it sheer power and atmospheric strength while sound art listeners will slowly uncover layer after layer of this many faced composition. Edition of 500 copies in 4 panel digi sleeve with 12 page booklet. 11 Tracks. Running Time 53:50. $12.66

Walk Through Fire - Furthest From Heaven ( Aesthetic Death: ADCD030)
The debut CD from awesome Swedish sludge doom act - Walk Through Fire. Oppressive, claustrophobic, dark, blackened sludge enveloped in pain. Obviously, I'm not going to carry a lot of metal (as much as I love it, there's already enough mailorders that carry it and do a better job than I ever would), but there's definitely things that are atmospheric enough, with a sort of Neurosis styled hypnotic repetitious churn, that it doesn't not fit in...plus, it's things like this that I'd like to bring in more of this year.. Taking inspiration from the shit that surrounds us in society - WTF transpose this into a musical megalith which yearns for the demise of mankind.. $10.00

Wolvserpent - Gathering Strengths/Blood Seed 2xCD ( Crucial Blast: CBR90)
Previously known as Pussygutt, the duo of blackened psychedelic dronemetallers from Boise, Idaho changed their name to the much more ominous sounding Wolvserpent in 2010. The name is the really the only thing that changed, as the occult hypno-doom and grim, folk-stained nightmares that populated their previous albums are all intact here. This double disc from Crucial Blast collects both the Gathering Strengths Lp (Olde English Spelling Bee) and Blood Seed Lp (20 Buck Spin), both of which were previously available only on limited edition vinyl. The material has been remastered for this format, and comes in an eight-panel digipack that features both the original album artwork as well as new imagery that further compliments Wolvserpent's avant-garde witch-sludge. Originally released under the name Pussygutt, Gathering Strengths offers more of their signature blackened dronescapes and ominous metallic ambience that we heard on the amazing albums She Hid Behind Her Veil and Sea Of Sand, with two massive tracks, each one a mysterious and abstract slab of twilight drift and formless low-end blackness. The beginning of "Gathering Strengths (Silence Within)" is a spacious blend of abstract doomdrift and eerie nocturnal field recordings, the chirping of crickets and other nighttime forest sounds surrounding the slow deep wheeze of a clarinet drifting through the woodland shadows, the tones of the clarinet stretching and winding into tendrils of dark drone, a subtle undercurrent of rumbling heaviness deep beneath all of this. As the track continues to unfold, clinking metal and the whir of prayer bowls and distant tolling bells drift in, along with what sounds like a detuned banjo, muted strings, blurred streaks of violin, the sound smoldering for quite awhile, a sort of cinematic chamber-doomdrift, looped and scraped strings becoming more intense, joined by a gorgeous violin melody that begins weeping over the dark diaphanous ambience. And then the calm is split apart as a billowing black fog of metallic heaviness rumbles across the landscape, crawling over the horizon, seething and roiling just behind the mournful violins and creaking, whirring drones. The second begins with black wavering buzz floats across the simple pound of hand drums and a slowly beaten tambourine that begins "Gathering Strengths (Spirit Walker)", slowly joined by violins playing a simple keening melody, the mood bleak and sorrowful, with buzzing cello-drones slowly swarming beneath. The sound gradually builds into waves of rumbling doom riffage hovering over the horizon, never becoming overly heavy, instead spreading out and forming into a hazy doomfolk ritual with hypnotic violin melody and deep strings and soundtracky synths, becoming a dreamy funeral processional, dark and beautiful, austere and apocalyptic. The band's fourth album Blood Seed was released as a limited vinyl edition in 2010 on 20 Buck Spin. The first half is mostly made up of swirling nocturnal folk-drone, the second shifting into fractured, crushing heaviness. The first side is titled "Wolv" and starts off with the soft warm blur of a synthesizer drifting through a black expanse, very dark, dreamy, and cosmic, slowly joined by the sound of a violin playing a melancholy minor key melody that drifts over the soft swirling hum of the keys. Right from the beginning, the sound is dramatic and moving, and heavy with a feeling of loss and grief. This feeling is amplified as more layers of violin are gradually added, the strings sometimes falling away into pure drone. After a few minutes of this, the guitar finally appears, playing a slow creepy figure plucked in slow motion, and combined with the violin and keys creates something resembling atmospheric, funereal chamber music. Bits of slide guitar are draped over top, and it almost sounds like an extremely depressed and despondent Amber Asylum. About halfway through the side, the drums suddenly kick in and the guitar swells up in a rush of heavy distortion, and the duo lurches into this massive heaving sludge riff, all pounding slow mo drums and down tuned metallic crush, the grinding riff and pounding ultra heavy pace reminiscent of the Melvins, but with the violins and keys continuing to swirl around, transforming the heaviness into some kind of mysterious folk-doom ritual. Up to this point it's been more or less instrumental, but now the howling unintelligible shrieks begin to appear, the sound of demonically possessed throats screaming in the midst of a monstrous doom jam taking place in the middle of the woods at midnight, a single riff grinding over and over, backed by a legion of classical violins, layered and intricate yet totally trance inducing. More effects start to appear, as well as strange echoing noises and droning guitar notes, the violins taking off on haunting counter-melodies, the sound becoming incredibly huge as the side approaches the end of the first side, until the drums fall away and the guitar dissipates into a cloud of dense feedback fug and it winds down into those witchy violins and clouds of amp buzz. The "Serpent" side picks up from there, with soft wisps of violin licking at the edges of a buzzing guitar leaning against an amplifier, gushing black feedback. Then we hear the distant howling of wolves, their cries actually forming into a sort of melody that merges with the other elements, the strings diffusing into a soft circling melody over that rumbling guitar hum. After a few minutes, all of this fades out once more and a creeping, muted guitar appears, playing a menacing Sabbathoid riff for a moment before the full band drops in again, grinding out another massive sludgy metallic dirge, wolf howls reappearing behind the pummeling slow mo metal. The chorus of strange nocturnal cries is joined by other yelps, moans, echoing shrieks, and chanting voices, evoking images of a midnight garage doom jam performed by a coven of witches, the sludgy riffing and heavy drumming speeding up into a pounding groove and slowing back down into pure tar-pit sloth, a serpentine gothic sludgefeast that stretches out to the very end of the album.. $12.00

Wreck of the Hesperus - The Rotting Light ( Aesthetic Death: ADCD018)
There's doom, and then there's what Wreck of the Hesperus does, which transcends all doom, and takes it to a place more bleak, hopeless, and morose than you can imagine. This is putrid, distressing, suffocating, all encompassing, massively scaled darkness....but, unlike a lot of things operating in the same field, this is not boring, and not plodding, even as it moves along a zombie crawling pace. 3 long tracks, totaling 40 minutes, capped off by an epic 21+ minute track of pure nightmarish horror. So ugly and deformed, you can't help but love it.. $13.00

Zagrob - Vjecni Stan ( Athanor: Athanor037)
Debut full length from this Croatian project, who create some rather mysterious, but intriguing sounds. Someone somewhere I saw wrote that it's like Novy Svet playing music with human bones in a crypt, and I thought was totally apt. It's got that eastern European, off-jazz, Novy Svet, psychedlia feel (must be the vocals and the accordian), but this moves into darker, more ritualistic and post-industrial areas, at times reminiscent of something off the Nekrophile label; slow, almost drugged, ceremonial percussion, with bowls and chimes, and otherwise obscure sounds that sound like they're performed in a catacomb. Hard to accurately describe, other than the above description, and other than to say it's just really good, strange, and engaging. A great new discovery.. $15.33
