Ecka Liena/A Death Cinematic - Preternatural CDr ( Small Doses: Dose103)
This split release brings together two of the more underrated names working in drone. UK artists, Ekca Liena create dark, slowly unfolding, ambient landscapes tthat build in intensity over the three tracks on this disc. A Death Cinematic take a different approach, the layerered guitars swirl around each other like a hypnotic, slow-motion whirlwind. The two styles complement each other quite well. Edition of 96. Egoproblem - Exit Tape Kill ( Industrial Recollections: IR-EG01)
Norway, 1994. Lasse Marhaug has yet to start working under his own name, and Egoproblem represents an obscure, short lived project of his just before that time. The sole recordings consist of one 20 minute tape and one live performance. This CD collects that material, presenting the most straight forward industrial/power electronics works of Lasse Marhaug. In total c. 40 minutes of simple but effective works full of hard tones and metal banging. Tape/Exit/Kill comes from the original DAT tape, live recording with decayed and crude industrial-noise attack! Including liner notes by the artist.. $7.00

Eidulon - Idolatriae ( Malignant: TumorCD33)
With the release of Eidulon’s debut CD Idolatriae, we at Malignant are pleased to welcome another new project into the cozy confines of our slowly expanding roster. 7 tracks of ultra bleak, abstract atmospheres, with sounds and textures that seem to seep from catacomb walls and come slithering out of subterranean chambers. Certainly, this can be classified as a dark ambient record, but at it’s core, it’s more than just that simple classification. There’s a gritty, more jagged edge here, with tetonic shifts, deep rumblings, and crackling, climatic squalls buried under a bed of ghostly reverb and haunting tonal resonance. Fits in nicely with past Malignant releases such as R|A|A|N's 'The Nacrasti', Heid's 'Arktogaa', and even Caul's 'Crucible' CD. In elegant 6 panel digipak, with stark black and white, carefully arranged illustrations inspired by Taschism and Spatial art.. $7.00

Eldar - The Secret Golden Flower ( Old Europa Café: OECD163)
Latest release from the Spanish male/female duo, known I suppose by their brief stay at Cold Meat Industry. But, that's in the past, and now we look forward with Eldar, and their new residence at Old Europa Cafe, where they've delivered a solid collection of gloomy atmospherics, that stays strong on melodies as it navigates its way through 11 tracks of varying styles, incorporating elements of rousing neo-classical, dark ambient, post-industrial, and more structured songs. Really well composed and layered music with a strong identity. Recommended. $14.33

Electric Uranus & X-Navi:Et - Voices of the Cosmos ( Beast of Prey: Bop7.5)
Collaborative project between two Polish artists delivers what the album title suggests - 6 immersive tracks using original extraterrestrial sounds captured from space by radio-telescopes (pulsars), sounds from space missions and space itself. Each artist created 3 tracks played and recorded in rhythm with tones of "space sounds", made manually with use of electronic and acoustic instruments. As such, this is definitely drone based ambience, but not necessarily passive listening, as there's a coldness to the sounds, with glitchy, mildly intrusive pulsations and staticy transmissions.. $8.00

Emme Ya - Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems ( Cold Spring: CSR127)
40 minutes of dense astral emanations and magickal paradigms transmitted through the ritual mantras generated by Emme Ya. Emme Ya’s ‘Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems’ is based on the mysterious African Dogon tribe and their secret oral tradition. In the 1930s two anthropologists gained their trust enough to be told these remarkable secrets. The Dogon seemed to possess advanced astronomical knowledge beyond their means, without any instruments. They revealed that the star Sirius was orbited by the ‘smallest and heaviest of all stars’ and drew its elliptical orbit, which spans 50 years. This white dwarf (Sirius B) is so invisible that the first image was only obtained by scientists in 1970. But the Dogon also told of a third star in the system named Emme Ya (now Sirius C). This was only discovered in 1995 and only with the use of advanced infrared imaging. The Dogon say that their information was given to their ancestors through contact with beings from the star system of Sirius, calling these beings Nommos or ‘the monitors of the universe’. Washes of dark, enigmatic atmospheres with ritualistic undertones suggestive of lurking Lovecraftian horrors.. $12.00

Emme Ya - Chthonic Transmission ( Cold Spring: CSR175)
Chthonic Transmission” is Emme Ya’s 2nd full-length album for Cold Spring. Ritual Dark Ambient with esoteric vocals and an archaic magickal energy. “The album itself is an Alchemical process, in which I am descending and ascending, in a series of ritual visualisations under the veil of daath, being all such 6 stages of personal spheres of transmutative inner magickal paradigms, which are just part of the development of my own personalities, sexual feminine energies evoked and transmuted, with the sole purpose to transcend this existential reality in which I am submerged. Trying to explore in the sea of nothingness, searching my own inner light of self-creative power. Transforming, mutating, developing. Once again and again in a giant cosmic ouroborus… entering my parallel worlds eternally” (Emme Ya).. $12.00

Emme Ya/Nuit - Split CD ( Noctivagant: NEY001)
2 projects from the mind of Colombian Edgar Kerval. Emme Ya, known perhaps best for their release on Cold Spring in 2011, create deep, shamanic atmospheres, that are mystical and spiritual, yet dark and evocative, using tribal percussion, and mixing it with vocal chants, wooden instrumentation, and electronic textures. 3 really strong tracks here, finding the perfect mixture between primitivism and futurism. Nuit is less organic and more surreal - reverbed, textural ambience, acoustic instrumentation, and strange, spoken female vocals. Regular edition.. $11.00

Empusae - Extra Muros CDEP ( Divine Comedy: DC024)
Note - I backordered a couple people on this when I couldn't find copies. But, I found them, so order away! Excellent new effort from Empusae, managing to outshine a solid debut CD. On e 17 minute track inspired by Daniel Hulet’s comic book of the same name. An intelligently composed hybrid of melancholy soundtrack atmospheres with more futuristic, abrasive industrial sounds and sturdy percussion. In it’s short time frame, this stylistically roams the plains, but is comfortable with every genre it explores. Melodic, yet noisy, structured, yet free flowing. Impressive.. $13.50

Empusae - Symbiosis ( Ant-Zen: Act272)
Empusae is a project created by Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe, aka sal-ocin who, amongst other things is a member of This Morn' Omina, Tzolk'in, Project Arctic and also works as a live member of Ah Cama-Sotz and In Slaughter Natives. When listening to Empusae's music, you're lost in dark, melancholy, tribal electronic atmospheres and frightening, ritualistic ambient - a soundtrack for the listeners personal dark fantasies. Sal-Ocin is always open-minded about working together with other artists, as can be heard on his previous works with Oil 10, Nick Grey and Shinkiro. 'Symbiosis' is a perfect allegory of his intentions for this album where he merges his creations with the additives of other artists' music and artwork. 'One and the Same' features Tomas Pettersson and Rose-Marie Larsen from Stockholm's well-acquainted neofolk and martial industrial group Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio. Mighty drum patterns, a hypnotic piano line and mind ensnaring vocals result in a perfect album opener. 'Deceivious Water' combines melancholy, dark ambience and menacing atmospheres, including vocals by the Swedish medieval-ambient project Arcana. In Slaughter Natives, a pioneer of symphonic industrial contributed vocals and lyrics on 'Dissection of Purity', a fiery rhythmic track with gloomy death industrial influences. Christel Morvan aka Nesisart who made the artwork for this album contributed vocals and lyrics to the haunting and ritualistic, 'La Rivière Noire' where dark shallows hide beneath the apparent ease - beware... . the calm and relieving 'seven types of ambiguity' is a recent collaboration between Empusae and Nicolai Riccardo (Nick) Grey after the 'Simple Black Lines in a Diagram' release five years ago - beautiful moody ambient for relaxational purpose. The purely instrumental 'Kralizec' releases the mindful listener with sable sentiments on pulsating beat structures showing Sal-Ocin's impressive musical skills once again. Dedicated to the graphic novel artist Daniel Hulet whose three-volume edition 'Extra Muros' became inspirational to an earlier Empusae release, 'Symbiosis' represents Sal-Ocins distinguished unique class as a musician and intermediator between different artistic worlds.. $13.77

En Nihil - The Approaching Dark ( Eibon: NIH087)
Prolific and well regarded act that was active for most of the '90s, En Nihil took a sabbatical until just recently, and has returned with a spate of tape appearances and splits, and now his first proper CD in well over a decade. True to his nature, En Nihil has never been pigeonholed into one specific sound, though The Approaching Dark is probably most firmly rooted in the death industrial vein, even as it navigates through extended passages of isolating dark ambience and shorter blasts of distortion and noise. A welcome return.. $11.00

En Nihil/Elyseum - Split CD ( Syndrom Records: SYN003)
This self titled split album sees the collaboration of two underground artists on this release for Syndrom Records. The album was recorded in England and America producing a truly disturbing release.En Nihil (Adam Fritz) began recording in 1994, and over the course of three years from 1994 to 1997 created a substantial amount of music stretching into every subgenre of the experimental realm. Everything from melodic "songs", tribal rhythms, ethereal drifts, dark ambient, chaotic harsh noise, rhythmic noise, cut-up sound collages, noise ambient, field recordings and so on, all of them with a dark, emotional side ranging from minimalism to detailed, heavily layered and intricate productions to pure improvisation. All of this illustrating a spectrum very few artists have explored this completely, and augmented every step of the way with an introspective understanding of personal darkness, the cryptic savagery of human emotion and the scrutiny of a critical mind looking at itself.Elyseum is a British electronic music artist Mark Angel. Early work included experimentation with tapes and recorded sound to create loops and unearthly soundscapes. Further experimentation progressed to the use of modular synthesisers opening the door to pure electronic meaning. The Elyseum project began in late 2009 with the production of 'Bipolar' a progressive journey of electronic mantras and droning soundscapes. $12.66

Entre Vifs - Heavy Duty ( Influencing Machine: Influe02)
Originally released in 1989 by Cthulhu Records, Entre Vifs' debut tape remains a crucial release in the canon of Industrial/Noise. Led by Zorin (musician and visual propagandist in the legendary Le Syndicat), Entre Vifs created chaotic roars of noise with hand designed instruments resulting in one of the most distinctive sounding projects of that era. Influencing Machine is honored to present a new CD version so that this classic release can be available once more. Packaged in Digipack case featuring artwork/design by Zorin and includes a 4 panel insert.
"Of all the noise I've listened to, Entre Vifs is perhaps the only group who directly influenced my sound and technique. This is forward moving, fast paced and constantly changing noise. "Heavy Duty" revels in the sound of destruction, the tonal landscape collapsing in on itself and rebuilding in explosions of sound. It brings to mind an image of a building being concurrently raised and destroyed while jackhammers and machine guns compete for sonic dominance. If you love noise then you really need this in your ears." Rodger Stella/Macronympha. $12.50

Eric Lunde - Colorado Terrain Investigation ( Industrial Recollections: IR-ELCTI)
Including the material of the 7" and double 7" releases and 20 minuteslive performance only existing in form of VHS. These both originallyreleased in 1988 by RRRecords, documenting sonic terrain investigations. Hard to tell exactly what was going on here - are they strictly field recordings (and if so, where exactly was he??) That's certainly some of that as the sounds are un-manipulated and almost straight forward (albeit strange), but then it's cut up with some seriously raw and hollow noise of clutter, tool box shaking, and feedback in the classic Eric Lunde fashion. Comes with 8 page full colorbooklet reproducing the original artwork in their aging decayed looks.. $14.33

Exocet - Consquence ( Ant-Zen: Act268)
Two years after 'Grotesque Consumer', R. Klimaczewski a.k.a. Exocet starts his artistic vision exactly where he left off with 'Consequence'. A high quality detailed mesh of harsh sonic strikes, intricate rhythmic patterns, massive synth layers and cinematic samples which reflect his own perspective on idm, ambient and industrial music.
Exocet's work defines itself by emphasizing the juxtaposition between huge atmospherics and a blasting force of noise and beats. As displayed throughout the album where assertive and imaginative ambient pads float along-side hammering rhythmic patterns, inducing an almost trance-like effect. tribal elements sometimes beat their way through the mix and add yet another perspective on the already heady mix of different sonic characteristics, and perfectly positioned samples just manage to emphasize the film score feel and quality of the tracks.
Both a strongly abrasive and microscopically detailed world of sound, 'Consequence' brings out a unique blend of influences that takes its own path, changing direction at will, capturing the listeners interest with an iron grip.. $7.00
