False Mirror - Derelict World ( Malignant: TumorCD47)
In the beginning it looked like an ordinary storm... After three years of intense work, Dark Ambient disciple False Mirror returns with his third full-length journey, aptly entitled "Derelict World". With the timeless drones of his debut "Chronostatic Scenes" and the icy soundscapes on his highly acclaimed sophomore masterpiece "North" still resonating through space, solo artist Tobias Hornberger delivers "Derelict World", his most massive and epic undertaking so far. As its two brooding predecessors, also his third work of masterfully crafted Ambient has become a monumental alliance of dark drones, frostbitten soundscapes and warm vibrating tones from the deep bowels of the earth.Famous for his skilled use of field recordings from an extrem ely diversified range (some of the recordings stem from an old monastery, the medieval city of Ulm or the Arabian sea) and for his ability to cloak the superior forces of nature into menacing, yet beautifully devised sounds, "Derelict World" also offers a truly apocalyptic concept that blends perfectly with the dense wall of sound on this mysterious Ambient challenge: Nothing less than the end of humanity, brought upon this world by the relentless forces of nature forms the basis on which the resonating and thundering tracks develop into chimaeras of terrible momentum, ever-changing and ever-increasing their dramatic potential. Devised with sophisticated software he solely created for composing this album, False Mirror easily evokes elemental feelings like sublimity, fear or trepidation - culminating in an impending sense of doom that never leaves the listener and brings to life the destructive side of nature that surrounds us every day. From the sheer force of a tornado set loose to the beguiling calm within the eye of the storm, "Derelict World" is a 74 minute long sonic journey into a desolated, depopulated world. A 20 page booklet with a conceptually linked short story written by author and journalist Bjørn Springorum accompanies the release. The album is moreover equipped with a number of hidden messages that lead to a rewarding "Bonus World" on falsemirror.de. ... and the rest was silence. "...One of the best dark ambient releases in recent years". 9.5/10 Orkus Magazine "The False Mirror album is one of the best CDs I've ever listened to!" M. Sturtzer, Phelios.. $11.00

Fear Konstruktor - The Way of Agony 3inch CDR ( L-White: LW053)
Fear Konstruktor is a relatively new (2007) Russian power electronics and experimental project, utilizing mainly analog devices to record and perform. On this mini album, we are presented with 4 tracks of crude (and I mean that in a positive sense) but effective heavy electronics, where dark textures combine with good hard industrial, writhing pulsations, noise, and distorted vocalizations. Fear Konstruktor on Virb . $6.00

First Law - A Future So Bright ( LOKI: LOKI58)
In its 20 years of existence -meanwhile the mastermind Andreas Wahnmann also has been active in several other musical projects- First Law released six full length CDs up to now and developed a trademark in sound research that is truly genre defying. The album title and the cover art for this magical 7th album stand in strong contrast to the musical content and the album manifests its ironical and deliberately conflicting nature right from the start. Deep and throbbing rhythmic patterns, endless layers of guitars droning and manipulated vocals are opposed by disturbingly beautiful melodies. The complexity of the recordings just emphasizes its depressing nature and takes the listener on a journey through sound and emotion. A Future So Bright is nothing less than an outstanding sound-scape that flows like a hallucinatory maelstrom and marks the darkest release of First Law so far.. $13.88

First Law - Refusal As Attitude ( LOKI: LOKI31)
With the third CD First Law presents once again an outstanding sound journey into the Inner Cinema. Hypnotic, complex and dynamic this is full of textured, liquidous atmospheres and spacey, drugged ambience, fully enriched by a kaleidoscope psychedelic effects and slow, precise rhythms. Continues in the overall vein of Velochrome, but this seems to have added depth and layers, and sucks you in like a warm, enveloping vortex. Really brilliant, and together with Bad Sectors Ampos and Squaremeters The Bitter End completes a recent trifecta of high quality, spacey drone music you'd be hard pressed to match.. $14.99

First Law - Terrorforming ( LOKI: LOKI49)
The 6th full-length album of FIRST LAW sets real moments of artificial and creative substance. Intermittent bass, analogue modulations, and percussive elements mix with blossoming textures and celestial atmospheres wrapped in a warm, hallucinatory, drugged embrace, and driven by a pulsating, rhythmic underbelly. Conceptually don't get it wrong, this album is not about religious airheads getting their way. This is not about the threat terrorist attacks impose on any of us, nor has it the intention to proliferate violence as a viable way to change the status quo. At the least, as long your opinion stands against the opinion of the majority, you are pretty much out of luck. No, this album is aboutleverage; it is about deception and opportunity, by accident or by design; it is about resignation and self-delusion; but most of all, this album is about fear.. $13.77

First Law - Violent:Sedated ( LOKI: LOKI22)
First full length CD following the EP on State Art. Hallucinatory, streaming electronic soundscapes with a smooth, crystalline glass feel. Has a dreamy, sort of liquidous and drugged quality to it, with spacey tones that seem to probe and permeate every nook and cranny of my tiny rat brain. Took a few spins to grow accustomed to it, but maybe because it's so different than what I was expecting.. $14.99

Fjernlys - Ascending Triads and Luminous Arcs 2CD ( LOKI: LOKI42)
Debut of this project from Knut Enderlein of Inade fame! Don't, however, expect this to sound like Inade -it doesn''. In fact, a more fair comparison would probably be First Law (and maybe even a bit of Predominance), though really, this is a project whose sound is it's own. Nuanced and at times even relaxing, not necessarily dark, but certainly downbeat and sober, Fjernlys explores cosmic realms and crosses into astral plains, but is grounded by an esoteric ritual and occult flavor. Fjernlys' attitude to music remains unfettered by stylistic frames and the album targets the style-encompassing essence of sounds. The second CD features five remixes and interpretations from Antlers Mum, Bad Sector, First Law, and Lovespell, which support the complex character of the whole release and expand the border to a new style of ambient songs. $17.33

Fjernlys - Beyond the Undulant Quiescence ( LOKI: LOKI51)
Latest release from Knut Enderlein of Inade fame. 10 captivating and complex compositions, full of tranquil melodies and melancholy, ethereal synthesizer sequences. Moves at a rather relaxing, hypnotic, and dreamy pace, really straddling the line between carefully crafted, well structured songs and flowing, cosmic influenced ambient. As corny as it sounds, whenever I listen to to Fjernlys, I always think of a stream of crystal blue water gently drifting through an otherwise brightly lit, all white, completely stark and vacant room. For fans of First Law, Llovespell, and of course, previous Fjernlys releases!. $13.66

Fjernlys - Within the Mind of a Ghost ( LOKI: LOKI55)
'Within the Mind of Ghost' is the second manifestation of Fjernlys bringing warm, atmospheric and sensitive Ambientsongs with accented percussion elements, vibraphone sounds and brilliant viola supplements to set the electronic soundscapes into wonderfully concentrated and organic pieces. After the massive earthing from the moon Fjernlys leads you to points of light illuminated by gilded signs and the frozen sun is shivering in the inner journeys to places where the mystic dress of stars is surrounding the night. Clear homogenic sounds creeping deep organic rhythms with lovely effects have been incorporated in a poetic ambiance guided by brilliant vocals. This outstanding melancholic and elegiac recordings follow the first album with even an more accoustic input like the reverbating guitar sound and the stringed bowed instruments too and give an handsel of the things to come. First released as a lmtd edition LP.. $13.77

Folkstorm - Folkmusik ( Old Europa Café: OECD076)
Folkstorm refuses to stay dead, and has once again risen from the grave to wage war on the world ! "Folkmusik" is very much classic Folkstorm, with its roots firmly placed in the old-school industrial style
harsh and uncompromising and full of caustic atmospheres, lurching rhythms and ominous tension, but with a darker edge this time, perhaps remiscent more of MZ.412 than Folkstorm (just check out the rolling, ritual style percussion on track two as proof). As ever from the explorative Folkstorm this is mandatory for all fans of pure-old school industrial nihilism. Presented in customary militant digipak. $14.75

Folkstorm - Ortodox ( Old Europa Café: OECD126)
The return of Folkstorm sees Nordvargr more pissed then ever. Screaming vocals, harsh analogue filter sweeps, distorted, pulsating oscillations and mammoth electronic grind. "Ortodox" is a return to the fine tradition of making entirely analogue music - no computers, no sequencers, no modern trickery. A pure celebration of classic Swedish industrial music, and a protector of values that are about to be lost. Killer stuff.. $14.66

Folkstorm - The Culturecide Campaigns (Archive Series 5) ( Old Europa Café: OECD137)
The Culturecide Campaigns was released in 2000, only available for one month through MP3.com, during which time only 39 copies were sold. These now 11 year old recordings have finally been restored, redesigned and remastered, and feature two bonus tracks. This album was recorded back to back with "Victory or Death" and carries the same menacing feeling, but with a bit more structure and emphasis on pounding, rhythmic, industrial noise. The Culturecide Campaigns was Folkstorms first attempt at infiltrating mainstream culture and also infiltrating the new and upcoming filesharing culture. Besides releasing this album only online, it was also spread in secret over the Napster filesharing website. Mainstream "top ten album" downloads were manipulated and tracks were exchanged. That means that possibly thousands of people that were expecting to listen to Madonna or U2 ended up listening to this.So maybe this oscure gem actually has been more played than all of the Folkstorm albums, albeit in secrecy to an unaware audience? If you want rough old-school industrial this is what you need !The campaign continues.... $13.77

Folkstorm - The Forgotten Tapes ( Old Europa Café: OECD114)
After searching for an old Folkstorm recording in his vaults, Nordvargr discovered more unreleased material than he was looking for: old recordings from 1997 and 1998, all previously unreleased! Now, after more than 10 years, these old recordings see the the light of day. This is all harsh gritty oldschool Folkstorm, served up fresh and carefully remastered from the original analogue tapes. Also included are the four tracks that were intended to be released as a spilt CD with LHD. Judging by current sales depletions, I think I probably bought too many of these, so going to take a pro-active approach and post it down while it's still fresh.. $5.00

Frakmundt - Heiwehland ( Percht: Perch19)
After more than one year Frakmundt are back with their new masterpiece „Heiwehland“ ( “Land of Nostalgia“). Sixteen unique, expressive and headstrong songs grant the listener a passionate glimpse into the alpine areas of Inner-Switzerland. On “Heiwehland”, accordion, guitars, hurdy-gurdy, bass, flutes, and the percussion contributed by Merlin (Eluveitie) blend together to form the unique and unconventional Swiss Ur-Folk. A primordial male voice and spoken passages contrast with the powerful voice of Anneli. Furthermore Chrigel Glanzmann (Eluveitie) and the renowned opera singer Christiane Boesiger contribute their guest vocals on two of the songs. New guitarist Guschti enriches the album with his string virtuosity. The varied songs in Swiss Alemannic dialect take you to a more than one hour long journey into the heart of the alps. They speak of historic events, tragic tales, frightening creatures, strange events, mysterious beings and the melancholic longing for a beautiful homeland that is disappearing in its original form but also about its outlasting beauty. As on the previous album “Urbärglieder”, traditional songs are reinterpreted and of course the comical and humorous elements have their place. This extensive digipak contains a twenty-page booklet full of breathtaking alpine photography and includes all the lyrics in Swiss Alemannic dialect as well as their description in english.. $12.00

Funerary Call - Beckoning At the Black ( Fall of Nature: FN11)
Channeling energy and inspiration from chthonic elements, Beckoning At The Black celebrates the exploration of man’s darker half: the shadow-self...An aural descent into the underworld of unconscious and subconscious dimensions. Challenging the listener to gaze into the mirror reversed and walk the paths below. Remastered, reworked and including bonus material not featured on the original release, Fall Of Nature is proud to present yet another offering from one of dark ambient's most sinister exponents - Funerary Call. Very bleak and pure nightmarish sounds here, recalling some of the finer moments of early CMI (or Swedish sound in general) releases from Memorandum, BDN, Megaptera, etc. True to the old school aesthetic in all respects.. $12.00

Funerary Call - Nightside Emanations ( Malignant: TumorCD55)
First created in 1994, Funerary Call has established itself as one of the premier purveyors of archaic black atmospheres. With Nightside Emanations, Funerary Call presents his most organic and purely ritual experiences...8 tracks that spiral into darkness, led by the ceremonial fire rite of the opening track, then descending into even blacker, more ominous realms as the CD progresses. Extended pieces of opaque ambience are augmented by slow, foreboding, tribal percussion and sedated vocal incantations, full of ancient mysticism and creeping miasma. Material used in the recording process ranged from found objects such as rocks, scrap metal, antlers and bones, to an assortment of ritual implements; chimes, bells, gongs, rattles and kangling. The result is unequivocally one of the darkest releases you'll find under the Malignant banner and one of the more focused and complete recordings from Funerary Call. In 4 panel DVD digipak with stunning artwork by renowned Russian artist Denis Forkas.. $11.50
