Velehentor - From the Gloom of Graves/Stonewells of Aeternity ( Abgvrd: Smersh02)

Other project of Anton Sheforostov of Closing the Eternity fame that's full of hopelessness and dread - but of course, you'd probably expect that based on the title. Down tempo and depressed washes of solemn and murky electronic soundscapes that move slowly through a foggy haze, with touches of dark ritualism. Gloom is the operative word here and feelings of emptiness and and despair run rampant throughout. Having developed a strong cult following with their limited CD-R, a split LP, and compilation works, Vestigial (Italy) come forth with their debut CD poised to establish themselves among the dark ambient elite. The Translucent Communion - a reflection of the hollow and imaginary archetype of our civilization , a blackened view on the humanity falling into a perfect nothingness of technocratic illusions, a refined and well designed disharmony for our next generation. 6 tracks that arise from the shadows, then spread and sweep across a barren, wind swept landscape, creating a sound so thick and texturally deep it swallows the earth like a venomous fog. Comparisons to Inade (first and foremost), Lustmord and Bad Sector are reference points, but only hint at the massive potential of Vestigial. I would argue potential achieved. The new album from the project of Alexander Lebedev-Frontov (Linija Mass, Stalnoy Pakt) and Nick Sudnick (Zga). Old-school analogue industrial with a big influence from the early 20th century Futuristic era, "Formula Of War" is part of Alexanders series named after Marinettis volume of poems "Guerra sola igiene del monde" (War the Only Hygiene of the World), published in the year 1915 during the outbreak of World War I. Following the previous parts of the series made by Stalnoy Pakt (a 10" and a split CD with Anthesteria) this release is also dedicated to WWI, expressing the aura of this time by means of sound and artwork. VoidWork started in 2008 with the purpose of creating a haunting musical atmosphere. The concept is inspired by early 20th century supernatural literature and more recent horror cinema. Horror/Forsaken is a double album based loosely on the concepts of fear, abandonment and mankind's meaningless place in an impersonal Universe. Vom - Primitive Arts ( At War With False Noise: Atwar069)

First full-length album by this Glasgow-based post-goth trio, and one of my absolute favourite At War releases ever! Building on their two-track CDr on Kovorox from a couple of years ago, Vom have come out with a much more attractive proposition than the metal/krautrock hybrid which was going on there; this album is much more focused, dark and heavy. In fact it's as brooding and dripping with dark atmosphere as anything I've heard released in ages. Like a hybrid of Scream-era Siouxsie And The Banshees, early X-Mal Deustchland and the first Killing Joke LP, with vocals buried deep in the mix and heavily distorted (think Ramleh's early post-PE stage), Vom reference a lot of music yet sound nothing like you've ever heard. Two new tracks from the Rhode Island beast that is The Vomit Arsonist. The first is a lengthy, 14 minute trek into depravity and subversion, starting off in a somewhat unassuming manner with a slightly distorted drone, before becoming more ragged and agitated, with a torture sample leading into a full blown attack of vocals and churning blown out frequencies. The second, much shorter track, track is pure death industrial bliss - a monolith of slowly, wavering heavy electronic dirge, buried vocals, and industrial clangor. Vortex is a German sound art project from :Golgotha: and Aeterna member Marcus Stiglegger, challenging the boundaries of ritual and dark ambient music. After the critically acclaimed debut album "Phanopoeia" (2008) out on Tesco Organization and the media book/soundtrack "Silence" (:Ikonen: media 2009), the new full length album ‘Rockdrill’ continues on the same path and mobilizes acoustic instruments (guitar, percussion, piano), voice, electronics and samples to create a unique and very epic sound monument in 11 parts. Vortex is named after a modernist British art movement of the 1920s called Vorticism, headed by Ezra Pound and Wyndham Lewis. The new album ‘Rockdrill’ is especially inspired by a sculpture called ‘Rock Drill’by the Vorticist artist Sir Jacob Epstein (1880-1959). It was built according to his sketches in 1913-14 to symbolize 'the terrible Frankenstein's monster we have made ourselves into'. The sculpture had a huge influence on the Vorticist movement and inspired several cantos by Ezra Pound (LXXXV–XCV, Section: Rock-Drill, 1956). It was destroyed during the war and cast again in bronze in 1962. Epstein himself did not like the sculpture and decided to "save" only a part of the actual figure - not the rock drill itself. The concept of this album is to reconstruct the history, mood and allegory of this piece of sculptural art as well as its impact on modern art movements. A 12 page booklet adds rare visual documents to the whole.‘Rockdrill’ by Vortex is consciously caught between archaic and modern energies, between history and present. Relatively long tracks of cold experimental digital electronics, dense and complex noisescapes, multilayered frequences of sounds ranging from ambient to noise, always evolving.... and you're right. It reminds us of AUBE, but in a more complex and dense way, BAD SECTOR but without his melodic soundscapes, MERZBOW but in a quieter mood, the new DISSECTING TABLE, but without his usual sampled metal sounds.... well, a lot of other acts but nothing in particular. The whole album is well-crafted, highly structured, with tracks starting quiet, ambient, and evolving to noise. 5 instrumental tracks, one with processed vocals and the last one as the final conclusion.. $12.00 Add to Wishlist
