Za Frûmi - Legends Act 1 ( Waerloga: WAER002)
Why get Enya for the Lord Of The Rings movies when there is a perfectly good, dwarf/orc obsessed combo, composing dark, vaguely rennaissance fair-ish, ambient soundscapes that would work PERECTLY. And I'm sure they're cheaper than Enya. And come on. When you think Ring Wraiths and Golem and all that, do you think 'this would go great with some new age music'? Neither do we. So come on Peter Jackson, here's your chance to add some credibility to the LOTR soundtrack/score for part three!! Anyway Za Frumi are a Swedish group who create fantastical worlds with orcs and dwarves and battles and journeys and all the D&D stuff we love. Their classic remains their debut record Za Shum Ushatar Uglakh where dark and ominous soundscapes were peppered with dialogue (IN ORCISH!!!) as well as battles and celebrations. Really strange and totally appealing. Their second disc didn't move us as much as the first, and while Legends is not necessarily a "return to form" we do like it a lot more than the last one. The focus is still on the music, having apparently discarded the dialogue and sound effects completely, which is fine, but unfortunately it moves Za Frumi from that niche where they were basically the ONLY band doing what they were doing, to the more populated field of Cold Meat / dark ambient. Fans of Dead Can Dance, Summoning Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud, Empyrium and other dark ambient will dig this a lot!! Very dark and cinematic and quite pretty, in an ominous sort of way. From Aquarius.. $7.00

Zagrob - Vjecni Stan ( Athanor: Athanor037)
Debut full length from this Croatian project, who create some rather mysterious, but intriguing sounds. Someone somewhere I saw wrote that it's like Novy Svet playing music with human bones in a crypt, and I thought was totally apt. It's got that eastern European, off-jazz, Novy Svet, psychedlia feel (must be the vocals and the accordian), but this moves into darker, more ritualistic and post-industrial areas, at times reminiscent of something off the Nekrophile label; slow, almost drugged, ceremonial percussion, with bowls and chimes, and otherwise obscure sounds that sound like they're performed in a catacomb. Hard to accurately describe, other than the above description, and other than to say it's just really good, strange, and engaging. A great new discovery.. $15.33

Zero Kama - Live in Arnhem & The Goatherd and the Beast 2CD ( Athanor: Athanor033)
Athanor is proud to finally release the legendary live in Arnheim from 1985 of Zero Kama. Michael DeWitt's Zero Kama was the precursor of the ritual and majick inspired music scene, along side bands like Coil or Psychic Tv. Their label Nekrophile was a HUGE influence on many individuals, including the creation of Athanor (and probably Malignant for that matter). Zero Kama did only two performances, in Amsterdam and Arnheim. This last one being presented here for the first time on CD.In concert, Zero Kama's sounds were quite different than on their only studio album « The Secret Eye of LAYLAH ». They used accoustic instruments as well as bass and guitars. For this concert Zero Kama were Michael DeWitt (concept, tapes, voice, bone instruments, shenai, violin, percussion), Muki Pakesch (tapes, guitar, bass drum), Didi Neidhardt (bass, bass drum, congas, percussion), David Aranyos (bass, bass drum, voice, percussion),Wolfgang Lehner (super-8 film and slide projection). Live mix by Martin the Viech Wich. The CD also features the interview Zero Kama did for Stad Radio in Amsterdam 1985 As a bonus CD we added the rare tracks Zero Kama did previously to the legendary Secret Eye of Laylah LP released by Athanor as a ltd edition 10". It includes the track Liber AL I.13 based upon a verse from Aleister Crowley's Liber AL vel Legis or The Book of the Law, this track is the only remaining part of a later abandoned project in which Zero Kama intended to set Crowley's Liber AL to music. Other tracks, like "Prayer of Zos", are based on the writings of Austin Osman Spare, whose Zos Kia Cultus was another major influence to Zero Kama's work. Both CD were remastered by Andreas Resch and packaged as a 6 pages digifile with archives photos from the concert. This will proceed the CD re-release on Athanor of The Secret Eye of LAYLAH from the original master tape. Astounding material for the time. Back in the early to mid '80s, with their elongated vocal chants, haunting bone trumpets, and persistent ritual percussion, this was some of the most frightening, mysterious music ever created. Even today, a track like 'V.V.V.V.V.' will raise the hair on the back of your neck. It's importance cannot be denied.. $22.00

Z'ev - The Deep Path ( Silentes: Season1)
A monumental album featuring three impressive tracks in which Z'EV (mythical avant-garde experimental artist, percussion master and world wide performer), collects and exhibits brave and incredible sonic solutions, mixing and alternating enormous, deep and sometimes exploding and devastating sound masses based on low frequencies, to noisy metallic sounds, gongs and cymbal stratification... all oriented in temporary resounding "tunnels", where sonic elements are mixed through suggestive cyclic echoes and reverberations, infinite pauses, joining and integrating to other sonic tracks, for an important and unique listening experience. An unmissable masterpiece!. $11.00

Zoät·Aon - The Triplex Bestial ( Aural Hypnox: AH07)
Second CD release from Zoat-Aon following Star Autopsy, The Triplex Bestial fits right into the established Aural Hypnox sound
a kaleidoscope of trance inducing, mind expanding atmospheres full of spiraling, shape-shifting, organically based sounds. There's a heavy ritualistic feel that's evocative, potent, and above all, very complex. This is certainly hypnotic material, but its far too active to be meditative, not too mention a bit too scary. Here's what the press release said: By the careful adjustment and manipulation of both modern and archaic mediums is created a highly dynamic work of aural alchemy depicting the trance and dream of a carnal totem standing between Heaven and Earth, where the unearthly sound of starlight's serpentine arteries winding together with the blackened branches above mingles with the oneiric hisses and crackles of necromantic phantoms and slithering roots below. A barbarous, sonic paradox suggesting the subtle arousal of the ancestry in flesh, a work both soothing and threatening to the intuitive mind.. ALL Aural Hypnox releases are highly recommended, and The Triplex Bestial doesn't disappoint. Comes in an oversized 4 panel cardboard covers. Limited to 1000 copies.. $13.50
