Sable Mouvant - Out of the Nightmare/Back to the Dream 7inch (Autarkeia: AVI33)
After his debut drone / ambient album Bridge That Leads Nowhere, Lithuanian composer gys comes forth with two new suggestive tracks. This is a hypnotic trip to the transitional state that exists between sleep and wakefulness, day and night, concious and subconcious. Two tracks of a rather minimalistic nature based on deep pulsating drones and looping bells, ending with total immersion into the state close to deep sleep. On super heavy brown vinyl.. $3.00

Sektor 304 - Engage...Forwards 7inch (New Approach: NAR05)
Fucking insanely good new material from Sektor that takes things to a new level, even by their standards. All full studio recordings and mastered by James Plotkin, “Engage... Forwards” is urgent and driving, with relentless percussion segueing into killer bass riffage and eventual scrap metal chaos. This captures the early frantic style of Dissecting Table, adds in some SPK and Test Dept. composition skills, and yet still delivers that uniquely Sektor 304 sound. "Voodo Machine" is dirgey and unyielding with plodding, rigid percussion and an ominous vibe. Absolutely brilliant artwork by Andre Coelho with the music to match. Lmtd 200 copies.

Sewer Election - Internal LP (Jartecknet: Jart30)
There is no need to provide any introductory notes for Sewer Election as the project is practically an institution by now, constantly exploring new audio and visual territories - Internal is no exception. Compared to the previous Lp released this year by Sewer Election - Malign - the contrasts could not have been sharper. The bleak folkish tunes of Malign are replaced with two longer tracks of decomposed feedback loops and sometimes vociferous, piercing electronics - funneled through amplifiers, adding an airy, yet intense sound. Internal dwells in a musical borderland - hard to fit into any neat musical niche - this of course, should not surprise anyone who is acquainted to the oeuvre of an artist that refuses the road of conformity.". $22.00

Sfär - Sprickor LP (Jartecknet: Jart31)
In the summer of 2016, Mattias Gustafsson (Altar of Flies) and Viktor Ottosson (Blodvite) initiated a collaborate effort in preparation for a live show at the LUFF-festival in Lausanne. This initial effort soon developed into a more enduring constellation, Sfär. For those having some familiarity with the two acts spawning the project will definitely feel the presence of genealogical lines, yet Sfär is something beyond a mere addition of the two projects. The five tracks on their debut album - Sprickor - creates an ensemble of sounds without ever loosing track of the overall picture. Not surprisingly, reel-to-reels are prevalent on the recording but Sprickor adds new dimensions to the mix; exploring text-sound collages, defunct electronics and melancholic compositions. Sprickor is only the first manifestation of a conjoined project aiming to explore new audial worlds.". $22.00

She Spread Sorrow - Mine LP (Cold Spring: CSR231LP)
"Mine" is the second release for the Italian artist Alice Kundalini with her solo project She Spread Sorrow. Between the dark rooms of an abandoned college, where whispers and obscene thoughts mingle, where little bells and distortions come together, the inner voices are fleeing to the rules of harmony to awaken a darker sound, hidden and deprived, of those who have something to hide. Ritual deathscapes, obscure Death Industrial, sinful Power Electronics. Ltd x 300 copies with digital download code.. $19.99

The alignment of two Esoteric / Ritual Dark Ambient minds. The Woven threads of the Lunar Goddesses manifold thrice around the Solar Temples of Samadhi. Shift - Hatet / Misären 7inch (Filth & Violence: F&V80)
From Noise Receptor: "Evidently this 7”ep represents Shift’s ode to Malmö – and this is not meant as a celebration, given the words of the artist: “This is part one of my tribute to Malmö, the shithole I come from.”
‘Hatet-Misären (Kackerlackorna)’ takes the lead and is straight forward and menacing in atmosphere with mid toned static drones, cavernous slow pounding beat, radio chatter (in Swedish?) and buried vocals which ramp up during various sections throughout (…random car horns and traffic noise leads the track to its conclusion). ‘Motstånd-Handling (Duscha Först, Gasa Sen)’ takes up the flip side and starts with more radio samples (…again Swedish?), but is heavier and more forceful than side A. Here the track is focused on a cascading/ crumbling layers of distortion, along with sporadically used harsh vocals. There is little to no variation in the track, just a great example of a forceful and barely composed power electronics style, underscored with harsh distortion charged vocals.
Short and sharp ‘Hatet / Misären’ sees Shift in fine, if not slightly looser and regressive form (given the tracks appear less refined than other current material), but still delivering two harsh and no-frills power electronics tracks. The cover constitutes a photocopied sheet which suits this lo-fi and well executed 7”ep, issued in a limitation of 200 copies.". $5.00

Skullflower/Mastery - Skullflower/Mastery LP (Cold Spring: CSR165LP)
SKULLFLOWER presents a trinity of sombre meditations evoking Europe after the rain, drowned ruins, sunken dreams: spiders run across harpsichords in deserted schlosses and chateaus, doors slam and phantom demon choirs are summoned at seances by Blatavskian crones, whose impenetrable china blue dolls eyes open onto Tibetan vistas, terrible, ancient and remote…
MASTERY is improvised one man cosm(ag)ick from Ephemeral Domignostika. Total berzerker black metal, rooted in the tradition of true grim blackness, but filtered through Mastery’s cracked perception, transforming this into something beyond true; a droned out and damaged, outsider blackness, that sounds pretty much unlike almost any other black metal.Ltd x 500 copies.Standard edition: 400 copies on purple vinyl.. $16.00

Sky Burial/Self - Split 10inch (Peripheral Records: PR011)
I've gotta give props to the UK's Peripheral Records for coming on strong, managing to amass a nice collection of releases in their short history, further solidified by this split 10" release featuring the well known Sky Burial, and Self, the more atmospheric project of John Balistreri of Slogun fame. Two strong tracks from both, with my personal preference being the Sky Burial piece - a blackened ambient track full of rust and serrated edges, corrosive textures, and an overall grim and bleak vibe. I read somewhere that Self is influenced by the early CMI works, but I actually find more in common with Propergol's mellower moments, at least in the primary use of sampled conversations playing over a bed of dreamy ambience and gently looping chimes and mechanical whir.. $6.00

Sophia - Unclean LP (Cyclic Law: 84thCycle)
New opus from Sweden’s Industrial Ambient project from Peter Bjärgö (Arcana). Bringing together some of the original collaborators which were featured on earlier albums, Per Ählund, Stefan Eriksson and Ia Bjärgö, “Unclean” is again an outstanding piece of sonic force. Pounding percussions, commanding vocal parts and expanding ambient passages all merge to give us and absorbing, diverse and forward thinking journey. “Unclean” is an excursion into the folly of man’s self destructive tendencies, with a slight hope of a possible awakening before the last gasp is taken. Lmtd 500. $14.00

STROMSTAD - New Devoted Human LP (Malignant: TumorLP114)
Few names imply mind-bending, forward thinking heavy electronics like Finnish stalwarts STROM.ec, and with every release, they seem to further stretch the boundaries of what can be a pretty rigid genre, and navigate realms never before seen or heard. Similar things can be said of Norwegian atmospheric heavy weight and Malignant staple, Kristoffer Oustad, whose particular strain of dark ambient and post-industrial soundscapes are incredibly dynamic, at times surreal and cinematic, other times more driving and heavy, but all with a recognizable, highly emotive touch. Put the two together, and you get the debut of their collaborative project, STROMSTAD. Spread out over 8 tracks, this is a dizzying exploration of sound and vocal fury, where mechanized pulsations, writhing frequency oscillations, and grinding machine loops meet stretches of drifting darkness and touches of musicality, suggestive of a future that’s dystopic and bleak on one hand, yet highly innovative and revolutionary on the other.
Featuring a guest appearance by Grutle Kjellson from the mighty Enslaved, mastering by Nordvargr, paintings by Jeff Klena and design by Alonso Urbanos. Lmtd edition 250 gatefold sleeve, black vinyl. $18.67

Surachai - Plague Diagram LP (Self-released: Sura01)
Drawn from black, death and doom metal on one hand and powernoise and avant gardé experimentalism on the other, this creation concocts a genre all its own - a plagued metal. The roughly-hewn bass strokes of sound that give form and structure are infested by brain-bending drones and chirrups, precisely dialed and modulated - an analog disease teasing itself into and out of the fissures between the guitars, testing for weaknesses.
Featuring a guest free for all that includes Alessandro Cortini (NIN, Modwheelmood, Sonoio), Richard Devine (Warp/ Schematic/ Sublight Records), Nordvargr (Mz 412, Folkstorm, Merzbow Collaborator), Andre Sanabria (blowupnihilist, The Abominable Iron Sloth) and Otto von Schirach (Ipecac Records, Skinny Puppy).
Clear 180 Gram Deluxe Vinyl. Limited to 500.Artwork by Bridget Driessen. $6.00
