Raison d'Etre - The Luminous Experience (Live in Enschende 2008) ( Cold Meat Industry: CMI188)
'The Luminous Experience', recorded on the darkest hour of Midsummer night 2008 in Enschede (The Netherlands), is the first complete live album from Raison d'être featuring the whole set of one concert. The live set mainly contains live only material: a mixture of composed and improvised elements that hav never been experienced on CD before. Present here are also some live adapted compositions from the albums 'The Empty Hollow Unfolds' and 'Metamorphyses'. 'The Luminous Experience' is the 11th original album by raison d'être since their first album 'Prospectus I', released 15 years ago. An embrace of dark, enveloping textures, and noiser, more industrial sounds; factory din, machine clangor, and heavy, atmospherics.. $16.66

Ramleh - Valediction ( Second Layer: SLR004)
The first all new Ramleh album since 1997, and the first new power electronics recordings from the project for 25 years. And yet Valediction is no ordinary “power electronics” record, nor is it anything as straightforward as simply a return to their roots. Valediction is very much an entity of its own – both consolidating and expanding upon everything Ramleh have touched on in the past, but also digging into entirely fresh ground for the band. Valediction is, perhaps, Ramleh’s most bleakly psychedelic creation so far. Comes in a 4-panel gatefold sleeve with 8 page booklet with photos and cut-up lyrics from some of the tracks. Limited to 1000 copies.. $5.00

Rape-X - False ( At War With False Noise: Atwar038)
First full album on proper CD from these degenerates. Rape-X play scuzzy, filthy power electronics; all crack dens, backstreet abortions and low-life criminal acts. There's a lot of ridiculously over-the-top Bloodyminded-esque PE going on here, delivered in a very metal style - but for me they're at their most effective on long, claustrophic passages such as "Arson" or the harrowing final track, "False". Dark, sub-industrial clanking in the background, behind walls of air-raid siren drones. Powerful. often brutal stuff, and not for the faint of heart.. $4.00

Rapoon - Media Studies ( Aquarellist: Aqua1711)
New album is dedicated to the research of mass media’s manipulation of people’s minds. "These recordings include the voice of controversial speaker David Icke. They reflect on the role of the media in shaping and informing opinions (the war in Iraq for example showed the shameless use of the media by a government intent on war whatever the real facts were) and in furthering prejudices and persecution of those who have differing views and dare to express them. Looping percussion, ragas, spoken word samples, flowing electronics, and dub influences.. $6.00

Rapoon - The Bush Prophet ( Ewers Tonkunst: IST079)
“The Bush Prophet” is a brand new album from this legendary and highly influential project, which unique style of blending industrial, ethno-rhythmic and cut-up techniques has gained international recognition and made Rapoon one of the main artists in its genre. This work has an accent on more dark, hard and anxious sound constructions than most of its recent albums, it is full of tension and scepticism, but with no lack of inner hope though.Like it’s last year Soleilmoon release “Melancholic Songs Of The Desert”, it deals with isolationism and the myth of democracy. Manipulated by media and bombarded with political spin we live in a world where our political choices are reduced to almost zero. Faced with a hostile world and lies from every direction is it any wonder that there is a need to retreat to try and find some peace and humanity. The voices on the television make promises and soothing noises then wage unjust wars in our name. The lies fall like honey and nothing changes. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of "walkabout" and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation. The release is limited to 500 copies and comes in a stylish digisleeve with artwork by Robin Storey. $14.77

Rasalhague - Rage Inside the Window ( Malignant: TumorCD49)
Following the self released 3inch CDr from a few years back, Rage Inside the Window is the astounding formal debut of Indiana based dark ambient artist Rasalhague, offering some of the most haunting, dread filled, and yet dynamic atmospheres we've come across in some time.
Inspired by the true events of a young girl neglectfully imprisoned in filth and squalor by her thoughtless and uncaring mother. Rage Inside the Window takes the listener into the mind of a savagely depraved soul. Don't expect ambient of the spaced out, blissful, and softly textured variety. This is dirty and impenetrably dark, with an intertwining mass of demonic squalls, intense probing, highly ominous tonal drones, distant monolithic pulsations, and bleak isolationism. 6 lengthy tracks of pure psychological horror are presented here, with each piece segueing into each other in transforming waves, progressively getting darker, brooding, and more menacing as it goes. Finally, with the final track, some semblance of solace is achieved. Reference points can be made to Atrium Carceri, recent Raison d'Etre, and the like, but ultimately, Rasalhague operates within its own realm.
In 6 panel, full color DVD Digipak. Special introductory price!

Rasthof Dachau - Free Speech Series 3inch ( L-White: LW027/6)
5 tracks on this one. Pretty classically styled industrial…deep, pulsing heavy electronic atmospheres with a threatening, tension filled edge, some rhythmic elements, and muted, but strong vocals. The last three tracks are particularly strong, upping the aggression level with hard, looping rhythms and thick, penetrating frequency drones. Gets better as it goes, this may be my favorite of the newest Free Speech batch. Part 6 of the series. $13.75

Re-Drum - S ( Zoharum: Zohar007)
New work by Pavel Aleshin whose previous recordings were released by Oophoi's record label Umbra and Slovakia-based Black Orchid Productions. This album explores the area of sacral and infinite, hence the title. S can be seen as the symbol of them. 4 long tracks of experimental drone-scapes using various sound sources (or so at seems) and incorporating melodies and some ritual nuances. Fans of Troum, Maeror Tri, and should find something to like here.. $6.00

Reductio Ad Absurdum - Live in Cyberfeminclub CDr ( Abgvrd: Silpha01)
Reductio Ad Absurdum was one of the first Industrial projects that appeared in Russia in 1994, existing until the end of the '90s and recording a dozen or so recordings of monotonous and evil Industrial albums in the vein of M.B., Lille Roger, Murder Corporation. Those bore excruciating aesthetics of Soviet rot and necroconformism. After the project ceased to exist its leader, Kirill Stukalin, has continued to work under his own name as well as the Organomehanizm project.
The release contains recording of the live performance in the Cyberfeminclub and consists of of sharp noise static, bass throbs, sudden feedback, space stuttering and romantic grain alcohol stupor.A reissue of the CD-r released by Black Dead Rabbit in the beginning of the century.. $10.66

Reutoff - Regno di Pianta ( Ewers Tonkunst: HHE001)
Re-issue! Proper release of the CDR released some years back on Ewers Tonkunst. Reutoff can be seen as one of the followers of a "real" industrial-approach, aesthetically and soundwise, but without just copying any of the old classics. As with previous cassette-only albums, this is a surprise again, as they move mostly in ambient industrial fields (dark synths, speech-samples, chorals, sound-effects), but sometimes they break in with very experimental or noisy rhythmical tracks, to cover the whole spectrum of industrial as we knew it. The overall atmosphere is again dark & gloomy, sometimes even melancholic and yearnful. 10 tracks, for industrial-lovers something to discover! Vital Weekly.. $6.33

Rising Shadows - Found in the Cold ( Twilight Recordings: TW1.54)
The music of Swedish group Rising Shadows isn't easily defined in a genre but more easily so in mood and influences. Playing a dreamy kind of music with many traditional and folk inspired songs utilizing some medieval music instrumentation. Just imagine a mix of Dead Can Dance, Ennio Morricone and Kate Bush and you'll be getting close to the sound of Rising Shadows. The new album 'Found In The Cold' (released in December 2008) continues the theme of the previous album 'Falling Deep Within', but this time bringing their work a more cold and harsh tone with distorted landscapes. Musically and lyrically their vision of the journey from life to death. Rising Shadows originally started out as a one-man project of composer Fredrik Klingwall in 1996 but with the addition of vocalist Linda-li in 2004, and ex-Katatonia bassist Guillaume Le Huche in 2008 they continue to develop their sound. Apart from appearing on a couple of compilations they have so far released two albums; Falling Deep Within(2006) and Found in the Cold (2008) both on Argentinian label Twilight Records. $4.00

After more than two years of work, the most promising Russian dark folk act has returned with their new album. RJF - Greater Success in Apprehension & Convictions ( Segerhuva: Seger24)
The most extreme and outstanding music from Sweden. Desire, despair, disgust, destruction & death - The Sound of RJF. This is the real thing, no false grace or hypocrisy. RJF get their inspiration from the sickness of mankind. This is not about music, this is survival and fighting back. A cock down the throat of morality. A knife in the back of society. RJF create their own values. Control & Knowledge."From the original 1983 press release. We might not have put it as poetic but when we found the old press release we couldn't resist the beauty of the text. The sounds on this disc drag you all the way back to the chilly gutters of early 80's fierce electronics. Menacing and mechanical noises, grating rhythms pick on your nerve endings, this is a sinister reminder that something was alive back then, something that is missing now. This CD-reissue of the old LP has been re-mastered from vinyl since the master tapes are missing and is packaged in a 12-page booklet A5 sleeve with lots of pictures, liner notes by Kristian Olsson and original art made by Leif Thuresson. Edition of 500 copies. Roger Karmanik of CMI/BDN has this to say about this record: "This is a must for anyone into industrial music and with abit of nostalgic feeling - this was a cult release already when it came out 1983 - if you are into Lille Roger or early days of Brighter Death Now then you should definitely have this one - even though Lustmord, TG and SPK had a lot of influence on me - this LP, being Swedish and all, also made its trick when I recorded some of the Lille Roger stuff.". $9.00

Rome - Nos Chants Perdus ( Trisol: TRI383)
After their EP L’Assassin, Rome develop their sound further on the minimalistic, simple singer-songwriter album Nos Chants Perdus, slowly leaving the apocalyptic realms behind. Catchy melodies impress themselves on the memory. The sonorous voice bears the weltschmerz as well as the yearning for freedom and peace. Apart from the French song titles the lyrics are primarily performed in English, while the music is constructed primarily with acoustic instruments: piano, guitar, touches of strings, accordion. They have largely relinquished electronic elements, which marks Nos Chants Perdus out as a further stride in the work of the band. First limited edition in Deluxe Hardcover-book, found in linen with special black hotfoil debossing and 40 pages extra-booklet, plus a semi-matte art print on high-quality paper and with elaborate "Singer" thread stitching· Includes all lyrics and photographs by Achim Webel.. $16.50

Roto Visage - Where the Mandrakes Grow ( Autumn Wind Productions: AWP028)
From Crucial Blast: "Another album of skincrawling death ambient shrouded in mystery from Autumn Winds, Where The Mandrakes Grow appears to be the first actual cd from the Cali artist Jason Popejoy, who records his hellish ambient landscapes under the name Roto Visage. Prior to this, Roto Visage has cranked out a pretty sizeable catalog of releases both in the realm of digital-only Mp3 downloads that have circulated throughout the net, and small-edition CDR titles on labels like Beast Of Prey and Bone Structure. I haven't heard any of his earlier recordings yet, but Where The Mandrakes Grow shows this guy to be a skilled architect of deeply disturbing, often downright frightening death ambience. The disc comes in a posh six-panel digipack that has some really wild photo-collage artwork from Anastasia Sarandou that looks like a mix of Lynchian surrealism and Clive Barker's flesh-rending visions, and which sets the stage for the nightmare sonics that come pouring off of this album once it starts. There are eight tracks, most averaging around six minutes but with a few epics reaching twelve or more minutes in length, and each documents a descent into a stygian underworld of sound filled with massive cavernous rumblings, crushing distorted klaxon blasts that are so heavy they almost sound like metallic powerchords grinding in the distance, seriously creepy spoken word parts that are delivered either by a demonic raspy whisper or a slurred moan, as if the speaker is lost in a trance-state. There's a definite Lustmord feel to much of this, but Popejoy brings his own unique language of dread to the pieces, incorporating grinding industrial loops buried under miles of metallic shimmer, fragments of haunting orchestral melody, recordings of footsteps or something heavy echoing through endless corridors, washes of pitch-black cosmic synthesizer, and samples of someone frantically gasping for air, the latter appearing in a couple of spots and which ties in to the themes of auto-erotic asphyxiation that are part of the concept behind these recordings. It's an intensely unsettling album that nevertheless reveals moments of stunning sonic beauty from within the drifting black shadows and terrifying sound events that populate these soundscapes. Fans of the really dark ambient/industrial stuff like Yen Pox, Lustmord, R|A|A|N, the Aural hypnox school of ritualistic black drift, Megaptera and Inanna will love this. Mastered by ambient master Robert Rich, and limited to 1,000 copies.". $6.00

Rukkanor - Deora ( War Office Propaganda: WOP25)
A brand new Rukkanor's CD brings a mix of styles and cultures….exotic, East Asian influenced percussion, stirring Military marches and neo-classical brass, synthetic beats , Gregorian chants, and more. Normally I like things a bit more focused, but all of this is very skillfully produced and never seems disjointed. In parts this actually reminds me a little bit of Sephiroth (though not as epic or …well, good…but that says more about Sephiroth than Rukkanor).. $7.00

Rukkanor - Despartica; Face Two ( Rage in Eden: Rage64)
"Face Two" from Rukkanor's "Despartica" series offers a broad mixture of styles and musical ages. Echoes of 70's electronics, new romantic sonorities of the 80s (OMD, Numan, Heaven 17, Visage), a bit of industrial, a pinch of EBM, a touch of synth-pop... followed by the specific interpretation of 19th and 20th Century poetry. This time in a more gothic and electromantic "musical sauce". Beware! This CD contains no martial or neo-folk songs, but don't let that scare you away, as this is a pretty outstanding record.
