Caithness - Apostasy & The Sorrowful Child ( Kaosthetik: KSTK007)
4th release from Caithness, but the first I've encountered, which make it rather surprising given the quality of the work. Very reminscent of early Raison d'Etre - introspective ambient soundscapes with sorrowful melodies, monastic chants, acoustic enrichments, and haunted atmospheres, all drenched in the requisite reverb. To discover.. $13.00

Changes - Lament ( Hau Ruck!: HR!94)
From Changes' inception, R. N. Taylor and Nicholas Tesluk have woven bardic tales of gallantry, chivalry and of larger-than-life legendary and mythical heroes. They've sung of new love, love unrequited and love lost. They've written songs painting sonic imagery foretelling a dark apocalyptic future, which later came to pass while currently prophesying a society in the seminal stages of an even darker fate. With their new album, Lament, they turn their gaze inward, to their own personal apocalypses, stemming from their long marriages ending in dismal dissolution. They tell of their dark, oppressive inner-world that sought to drive them beyond the brink of despair. Only by being able to immerse themselves in their art and create works expressing these sorrows would they be able to maintain their sanity. Lament reaches out to all who've had their lives disrupted by modern societal partners going through mid-life crises, becoming antagonistic strangers to their families overnight. The song entitled "The Invisible Man" tells a tale based on H. G. Wells' novel with a personal twist. In their song "Emily", the historical figure of poetess Emily Dickinson comes to life. The "Mountains of Sorrow (Remix)", is an instrumental song enhanced by the deft arrangement, musicians and singers of Der Blutharsch with a voice-over by R. N. Taylor of his heart-rending lyric poetry. Also included, new versions of three of Changes' earlier works; "The Saddest Thing", "Sweet Eve" and "Memorabilia" as these songs merged well with the album's concept. Lament is sixty-four minutes in length with thirteen tracks. Comes in nice Digipak with a sixteen page liner booklet. $7.00

Circular - Cycles of Remembrance ( LOKI: LOKI52)
The new album of Circulars follows the debut CD from 2006 and a split LP with label mates, Inade. With this work Johannes Riedel makes another step further by creating something with a resounding sense of emotion and wistful melancholia. His classicial education in music allowed him to generate an artificial and ambient soundtrack with well composed songlike structures. There is a truly organic, analog-based core sound with cyclical waves of thick synthesizer drones and modulated bass guitars while slowly oscillating effects and pulsing beats are drifting through the mix. Cycles of Remembrance is an album full of harmonic landscapes, always enveloping and with meditative qualities.. $13.77

Circular - Shaping the Unknown ( LOKI: LOKI44)
Another impressive find for LOKI, Shaping the Unknown is the debut offering from this German outfit who create rather mystical and meditative ambient sounds via predominantly analogue means. Dark (naturally) and with a definite LOKI sound, yet almost stylish and elegant, full of deeply flowing drones, sacred landscapes, visually provocative sounds, and pulsating analogue synthesizers.. $13.66

Circus Joy - Laetitia ( Old Europa Café: OECD124)
Italian cult band in which play 2 former members of AIN SOPH as well as other well known musicians of the Roman underground. At the time of the last release by Circus Joy “Improvvisa Azione Paganini", noise was turned into pleasure and sex; in their new work, "Laetitia", there is no pleasure in noise without sorrow , and sorrow takes over...this CD is not only a sonic tribute to Pop-Art, as its cover clearly shows, or to the noise-psychedelic rock of Velvet Underground (one of the most influential bands for Circus Joy): it's a tribute to the recent and tragic departure of their friend and poet/singer, Letizia."Laetitia" displays the two faces of Circus Joy: sensual, sick love ballads on one side and the crazy, electric, rides on the other. The record has been recorded between 2008 and 2009 at "Spectrelab" and "Trafalgar Studio Roma" , except for the last track "An Eccentric Garden" which has been realised putting together the single parts each of members did on their own, at their own place, then sending them via the internet to the others...Circus Joy is a group of non-musicians, long time friends who come together to produce noise by experimenting and improvising with their instruments. Formed in 1984 by Corrado Mancini, the line-up tends to change from release to release, for this album the line-up was completed by Spectre, Mario F.O.B., ClauDEDI and Steve StrolI.A crazy post-industrial release.. $5.00

Cloama - Revisionist Knowledge ( Freak Animal: FreakCD028)
Return of the more cruel and vicious side of Cloama, the side project of Strom.ec. Two sides represented here…the first 4 tracks are live-without-audience recordings recorded with amplifiers and couple of good microphones. Painful and straight forward power electronics with vocals in line with what you've come to expect from Strom.ec, though maybe even harsher and more raw. 2nd part of disc is studio recordings …a solid, swarming mass of rough edged atmospheres, drones, and shuddering frequencies. Lots of layers here and overall, a very unique sound. Very stylish designed artwork in cardboardbox cover with 4 insertcard full of nice graphics and texts. Freak Animal. $14.00

Cold Fusion and Rukkanor - Silk Road ( Rage in Eden: Rage62)
It states in the press release that this is a split CD, but it looks more like a collaborative release to me. No matter. The Silk Road is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes connecting the East and West by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from China to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of history. Many artistic influences transited along th e Silk Road, especially through CentralAsia, where Hellenistic, Iranian, Indian and Chinese influence were able to intermix. As such, "Silk Road' takes this confluence of cultures and brings them together in a rich tapestry of sound, as warm and flowing classical arrangments meld with more exotic, Middle Eastern and Asian instrumentation. 9 tracks, 43 minutes, CD in digipack. Collapsar - Beyond the Event Horizon ( Malignant: TumorCD38)
Malignant presents another rising star within the dark ambient scene, this time in the form of French act Collapsar. With their debut CD, “Beyond The Event Horizon” Collapsar transports the listener on an epic journey deep into the cosmos, forging a path across a vast, inky void, and steering a course around a roiling galactic core of hyper-dense stars and black holes. The sound is epic, expansive, and most of all, HEAVY. There is beauty and tranquility within these realms, but there is no light – just massive, pulsating textures coalescing into shimmering drones, rippling sound waves, and billowing, multi-dimensional layers of powerful dark energy. “Beyond the Event Horizon” is without question, dark ambient in its purest form and one of the more genre defining releases of the last several years. A must for fans of Inade, Lustmord and the like. In 6 panel digipak, with design by ::: Eye.Lyft :::. $9.00

Combative Alignment - ...and Outside Glows the Red Dawn ( Malignant: TumorCD24)
Those that peruse the Malignant catalog on a regular basis, should have no trouble recognizing Combative Alignment, for they’ve been a highly touted fixture since their first release, the Everlasting Sun 10” on their own label, Avatar. After several releases, including an LP on LOKI, and a 7” on Eternal Soul, it is with great honor and pride that we present ’And Outside Glows the Red Dawn’, the first full length CD from this powerful and visionary German project. And Outside Glows the Red Dawn can perhaps be seen as Combative Alignment’s benchmark recording, offering 6 tracks that work as a virtual musical thoroughfare to a more dreamlike, illusory state. Deeply brooding atmospheres, where omniscient layers of drones and reverberating sound currents meet measured, ritual percussion as performed under the glowing, gloomy haze of a primordial sunrise. And Outside Glows the Red Dawn shines a dim light on a world of obscure origin, full of dark Germanic mysticism and unearthly sonic terrain. On a whole, this is a more focused, deeper, and fluid recording than you’ve heard before, yet triumphantly carrying on the tradition laid down by previous releases. In stylish digipak, lmtd 1000 copies. $8.00

Compulsive Shopping Disorder - In the Cube ( Rage in Eden: Rage63)
I can think of a few worse names for a band, but not many. That being said, this is actually a very solid record, mixing electro-industrial with gloomy, synth based tracks featuring an cold, impassive voice not all that dissimilar to the more atmospheric early Dive or Klinik stuff. The more aggressive, electro stuff has a definite early Front Line Assembly feel to it, for which I give major props. Well done if you tend to like this sort of stuff 7 tracks, 52 minutes, 6-panel digipack.. $7.00

Con-Dom - Free Speech Series 3inch CD ( L-White: LW027/9)
Part 9, and the final installment of the Free Speech Series. Been awhile since we've had some output from Con-Dom, and it's very welcome. Atmospheric by Con-Dom standards, but still fucking’ hard as always -…coarse, raw, and tension filled heavy electronics, based on loops and and super intense, burrowing frequencies. Absolutely devastating at high volume. Goddamn, I wish Mike would release stuff more often...this is just a teaser. Features Anti-Child League. Con-Dom - The Eighth Pillar - A Confession of Faith ( Tesco: Functional016)
The Eight Pillar was the first full-length Con-Dom release dating back to the year 1991, and was the second vinyl release after the Tesco 7" "Oh ye of little faith." This release had an accompanying booklet ordered separately which is now included in the artwork of the CD release. The CD is inspired by the life, writings and example of British author and "man of action" T.E. Lawrence - an enigmatic outsider who lived a tortured odyssey of physical and spiritual extremes in search of his own personal faith. The name of the CD derives from his book called "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom." With these recordings, Mike Dando, the man behind Con-Dom, set high standards in a genre that was just starting to arise. Via walls of lo-fi, raw power electronics and a commanding voice presence, Con-Dom give a good impression on how torturing the life of Lawrence must have been. Con-Dom explores every kind of social tension and control: political, religious, racial...with an acidic, violent and uncompromising attitude. He is well-known in the industrial scene for his furious ravaging vocals and the devastating, high intensity live performances. Those who missed the LP version (limited to 300 copies back in 1991) must see this record as a milestone or just a simple must! Outstanding.. $15.33

Con-Dom/Militia - Scorched Earth Policy CD ( Old Europa Café: OECD047)
A nice move on the part of Old Europa Café to re-issue this long out of print cassette from many years ago. Now completely re-mastered by Frank Gorissen of Militia, this comes roaring from the speakers in all it’s glory. Six tracks of full throttle brutality from Con-Dom to start things up, unleashing the typical fury associated with his work; rough discordant noise, squelching feedback, and writhing heavy electronics with processed vocals. Includes the Euro smash Power is Nothing Without Control, plus Utterly Devoid of Faith, All is Fair in Love and War, Buchers Call to Arms and more. The Militia material is representative of earlier work, as found on the New European Order 3 LP…less percussion based (though still prevalent)_ and more atmospheric, pulsating with the raw machine energy they’re known for. Industrial music the way it was meant to be. Includes 2 live, previously unreleased tracks from their very first gig.. $13.99

Contagious Orgasm - Confession of Mannequin ( Industrial Recollections: IR-C02)
Highly worshipped earliest material of the cult industrial-experimental band from Japan. This 2nd tape from 1988 (mistakenly stated 1989 in cd cover) shows a different side of what CO is known to be today. You see why they established deals with many leading European industrial/pe labels (Tesco, Ant-Zen, Praxis Dr. Bearmann,..) in the early 90's. An intersection of highly collaged experimental, surreal, and warped sounds; rhythmic noise, tool box clutter, grimy industrial, cinematic fibres, deranged voices, and a multitude of other sonic oddities.45 minutes presented with original sound from metal master tapes without any modern day boosting gimmicks. This aural voyage atmospherically varies from hypnotic echo-based beat pulses and moony synthesized melodies up to disturbing industrial soundscapes. Mighty bass strokes, a multitude of different rhythms, manipulated voices and skillfully applied samples result in an adventurous and enthralling work of sonic art captivating with its deep, transparent production.

Contrastate - A Live Coal Under the Ashes ( Tesco: Tesco010)
1992 saw the release of “A Live Coal Under the Ashes” which was inspired by the events leading up to the changes across Eastern and Central Europe during 1989. This release marked the change conceptually in which the group’s ideas became more specific and more focused on contemporary political issues. “A Live Coal…” was critically acclaimed not just for the music, but also for the artwork and packaging: - a CD placed in the middle of a 12inch clear vinyl record. After many years of unavailabity Tesco can finally present a rerelease with remastered tracks and a new yet unreleased track called: “Death follows the one eyed cow”. A compilation of the complete works of extreme power electronics act Control Resistance with tracks from various compilation appearances, their 1998 10" on Power & Steel, a Con-Dom track featuring source material, as well as a killer brand new track. And when I say extreme, I don't necessarily mean musically - that's very much in the Ex.Order vein of things - more atmospheric than noise, with volatile and agitating analogue pulsations and probing frequency drones accompanied by provocative, processed vocals and samples. Ideologically speaking, this is pretty far right and will certainly offend anyone previously offended by Brethren, Deathkey and the like. Conure - Strings, Locations ( Edgetone: EDT4106)
Conure has previously given us vast washes of feedback in the form of endless fields of soundscapes. With this album "Strings, Locations", Conure begins intimate, then discreetly leaves us stranded in a vast labyrinth. The sharp, specific washes of analog electronic tones give the listener an audio architecture within which to navigate. Some are large halls and others small corridors. The twisting sounds of ringing tones, discordant guitar accents, and feedback lumber through this architectural terrain, sometimes like a monster without direction and other times like delicate intentional creatures holding ground in the middle of a vortex. Whatever this beast is, we are given an audio map of a terrain for which there is no way out. It is an odd and exciting combination of harsh sounds mixed with delicate an intentional placement. One cannot exit this piece without feeling that they were witness to some narrative only half understood. It is the sound of a city’s architecture evolving from a past to a future as an abstract mystery is made audible.. $6.00

Wilson was so moved by the film that he decided to create his own audio sound collage not only to raise awareness to some degree but primarily to summarize the general feelings and mood of the film itself.
