The third album from Theme, a band comprised of Stuart Carter, Jeanne Boyer and Richard Johnson (from'90s influential industrial-experimental band Splintered and head of the Lumberton Trading Company label), is a hallucinogenic intersection, where the exploration of twilight spaces, dreams, bitter reflections and hopes collide with a sense of escape (to better places?) or an abandoned 'self', either lost or searching for much needed identity. More 'song'-based than their previous album, on Valentine (Lost) Forever Theme often witnesses barbed yet oblique words cut-up and formed into mantras over a mesh of cascading drones, textures, blissed-out guitar strums, submerged tamboura, metallic sheets of electronic frah, occasional drum pounds and chilling swells 'n' flecks of musique concrete. Overall, it catches the group exploring their environment, in more senses than one, with renewed vigour and nothing but questions left either open-ended or vying for interpretation. It's a world of rubble, dust and sprawling collapse, psychological or otherwise, screaming for meaning and purpose in a world gone mad where inner conflicts, vulnerability and regret are drowned in vast existential pools... With an additional remix by ex-Siouxsie & the Banshees bass player Steven Severin, this genuine album offers an apocalyptic sound mirage that recalls the experimental and post industrial works of Contrastate first and foremost, but also Throbbing Gristle and Coil, as well as the occult-like numbness of Current 93, the bleak avant-electronica of Andrew Liles and the psychedelic drones furrowed by the group's own previous work in both Splintered and Theme. Digital re-release of Tôle Ache's rare and out of print LP from 1998, "La Mort Danse Au Paradis". Extremely limited and without any distribution, this album was almost forgotten shortly after its release and quickly became a collector's item. A shame, because Tôle Ache, the French project from David Dufour, plays pure and true old school industrial in all it's glory.Cascading analogue wavelengths, crispy electricity, rhythmic pulsations, cut-ups and distorted voices. Even though this came out in 1998, it definitely sounds as if it came out even earlier than that...I would have thought late '80s, early '90s if I didn't know better.One of the most interesting Industrial releases of the nineties, remastered from the original recordings by Axel Frank at Blue Lounge Studios, now for the first time on CD. Back in 1988 Arbeit Group released obscure industrial-noise release by a project called Trait. The A-side of the tape included several different arrangements for inspiration in battle. The B-side included several of those arrangements combined together for temporary unified action. 45 minutes of the most primitive analogue destruction, leaving no place for easy listening or relaxing moments. Coarse sounds of tape loops, manipulation and electronics make this into difficult industrial-noise. Trait is one of the most vicious works of Eric Lunde (Boy Dirt Car). The material has been transferred from the original master tapes by the artist himself, leaving everything 100% as is. The artwork is faithful to the original release, replicating the it as accurately as possible.. $14.95

From Crucial Blasts website: "Trance was Mason's Jones solo project from 1987 through 1995, and it featured a different side of the Subarachnoid Space drummer that tended away from the spacey and psychedelic, instead going for loud, cacophonous industrial/tribal/soundtrack soundscapes that combined his knack for creative sound design with his lust for the most skull-rupturing ends of Japanese noise and industrial music. The last actual full length that Trance released was 1995's Augury, an overlooked but engaging slab of heavy ambience that was more in the vein of synth-heavy horror movie soundtracks than the clang and bash percussives of Trance's earlier recordings, but here we've got a brand new Trance disc that was just released at the end of '08 by the Russian label Monochrome Vision, which has also hooked me up with some other heavy new industrial discs from Arcane Device and Maurizio Bianchi. It's not new Trance stuff, of course, since Mason put the project to rest in 1995, but it is an exhaustive compilation of compilation tracks released between 1990 and 1994 that were previously impossible to find, many of them having been released on limited edition cassettes, so I was seriously stoked when I found out that Monochrome Vision was putting this together with Mason. All of the tracks have been remastered by Mason himself, and the disc features fifteen tracks taken from the Arrhythmia, Impulse Issue 2, Wakened By Silence, Of Sound Mind, Altered States Of Consciousness, Arrhythmia II, Must Be Musique 2, Must Be Musique, Audio Drudge 2, and Endless 1 compilations. Then earliest Trance releases were heavy and guitar-based, a response to the punishing industrial-rock of bands like Swans and Big Black, but by the time that the 90's kicked in, the project had shifted into more rhythmic industrial territory, blending together churning tribal rhythms and complex polyrhythms with dark atmospheric ambience and squalls of abrasive guitar noise and trippy psychedelic playing that hinted at the space rock of Subarachnoid Space. These compilation tracks explore various permutations of this sound, from grim orchestral rumblings to fierce Test Dept. style oildrum workouts, Teutonic splatter scores to crushing infernal-factory dirges and sheet-metal drones. You can hear Trance's sound progress from the earlier Test Dept. inspired tribal beats to the symphonic synth dread of the mid 90's recordings as you follow the disc, and for fans of the darker, more psychedelic side of 90's industrial and noise, there is some pretty choice stuff collected on this disc. The mysterious Portland ensemble Trees returns with their second offering on Crucial Blast, Freed of This Flesh--two fetid death rituals scraped from the crypt. Both tracks average around fourteen minutes; extended death-rattles comprised of glacial riffs, tectonic percussive rumbles, anguished shrieks of torment and abject suffering, low-end growls and endless sheets of glistening, metallic feedback that spill across the distant edges of their sound. This is extreme, time-stretched ambient doom--a crumbling, blighted majesty adrift on putrescent tides. The austere slabs of crushing heaviness move so slowly that the music loses all sense of propulsion at times, becoming lost in a fog of howling amplifiers and buzzing feedback. Atmospheric guitars stretch into massive decomposing drones, the spaces between infested with controlled bursts of drums that skitter and rumble. "Neu Optimism" is the encounter between incredible, strange rhythms from Brazil and new directions from old Europe. The technical skills of Moreau, combined with the analog touch of dusty synthesizers from Séverin's own museum, were just missing spontaneity -- that's where Cardona came into the game. Founded at the beginning of the millennium, in past years they played several concerts together with their friends Seelenthron and Traum'er Leben. Their music is best to be described as dreamy NeoFolk with a slight DarkPop touch, orchestral parts, martial drums and even some apocalyptic and dark experimental passages. On "333" the band plays a large variety of acoustic instruments: several different guitars, bass, violins, flutes, drums, didgeridoo... as well as a few beautiful electronic arrangements. Troum re-releases their mysteriously alluring Sigqan on Transgredient Records. These three part live sessions were originally recorded in 2002 and released on Desolation House records a year later. Sigqan which means “sinking” or “to sink” in old Germanic Goth unravels time with abyssmal washes of hypnotic layered strings and atmospheres that encapsulate your senses for sixty-three minutes.
