Raison d'Etre - The Luminous Experience (Live in Enschende 2008) (Cold Meat Industry: CMI188)

'The Luminous Experience', recorded on the darkest hour of Midsummer night 2008 in Enschede (The Netherlands), is the first complete live album from Raison d'être featuring the whole set of one concert. The live set mainly contains live only material: a mixture of composed and improvised elements that hav never been experienced on CD before. Present here are also some live adapted compositions from the albums 'The Empty Hollow Unfolds' and 'Metamorphyses'. 'The Luminous Experience' is the 11th original album by raison d'être since their first album 'Prospectus I', released 15 years ago. An embrace of dark, enveloping textures, and noiser, more industrial sounds; factory din, machine clangor, and heavy, atmospherics.. $14.66

Rape-X - False (At War With False Noise: Atwar038)

First full album on proper CD from these degenerates. Rape-X play scuzzy, filthy power electronics; all crack dens, backstreet abortions and low-life criminal acts. There's a lot of ridiculously over-the-top Bloodyminded-esque PE going on here, delivered in a very metal style - but for me they're at their most effective on long, claustrophic passages such as "Arson" or the harrowing final track, "False". Dark, sub-industrial clanking in the background, behind walls of air-raid siren drones. Powerful. often brutal stuff, and not for the faint of heart.. $12.33

Rapoon - Church Road (Tantric Harmonies: TantraX37)

The trademark dark and ethno-ambient of Rapoon mixed up with surreal electronic textures for an unforgettable experience. "Church Road" was recorded during a private show Robin Storey (ex-Zoviet France) performed in 2005 for friends and contains previously unreleased material plus a bonus track. Jewelcase edition, limited to 500 copies. Russian import.. $13.50

Rapoon - From Shadows Sleep (Essence Music: ESS006)
An unique masterwork of mysterious dark and droney sounds! Less rhythmic than previous efforts, From Shadows Sleep sees Rapoon visiting ancient temples, moving between shadowy labyrinths of meticulous drones, echoed tones and distant rumblings, building a hypnotic sonic ritual that brings traces from a distant past in form of atmospheric, spiritual mantras of a possessive power.Ominous and bleak, yet wondrous, Robin Storey’s trance-inducing soundscapes swirls around majestic droning tape loops, patterns, ethnic samples (especially tablas) and other secret devices masterfully arranged to mesmerize the listener. There’s no light in here – you will be guided by Rapoon's brooding and extremely detailed sonic imagery. Some bits of these recordings were initially conceived during the urban riots of the Thatcher years in Great Britain and were wisely put to rest until now. As Mr. Storey says, "From Shadows Sleep refers to the fact that the music hibernates in shadows, unformed until it is heard as if in sleep and visits one aspect of the creative process in particular: the idea that a piece is never finished. Taking elements from old recordings and adding new material I have tried to re-visit old spaces with fresh ears and a contemporary take on old sounds. Rediscovering for myself an interaction with the sounds that are essentially lost after the creative process is 'finished'".Robin Storey is a founding member and the real creative force behind the legendary, influential experimental collective :zoviet*france: and has been actively recording and performing for more than 25 years – since 1992 under the RAPOON banner –, always keeping an extraordinarily high quality control based in his very own trademark - the creation of mesmerizing ethnic based soundscapes. We are pleased to offer the album housed in an old-fashioned letterpress embossed mini-box packaging with a set of cards printed on quality recycled paper stock showcasing 11 exclusive paintings by Robin Storey! Limited edition of 800 copies.. $15.65

Rapoon - The Bush Prophet (Ewers Tonkunst: IST079)

“The Bush Prophet” is a brand new album from this legendary and highly influential project, which unique style of blending industrial, ethno-rhythmic and cut-up techniques has gained international recognition and made Rapoon one of the main artists in its genre. This work has an accent on more dark, hard and anxious sound constructions than most of its recent albums, it is full of tension and scepticism, but with no lack of inner hope though.Like it’s last year Soleilmoon release “Melancholic Songs Of The Desert”, it deals with isolationism and the myth of democracy. Manipulated by media and bombarded with political spin we live in a world where our political choices are reduced to almost zero. Faced with a hostile world and lies from every direction is it any wonder that there is a need to retreat to try and find some peace and humanity. The voices on the television make promises and soothing noises then wage unjust wars in our name. The lies fall like honey and nothing changes. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of "walkabout" and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation. The release is limited to 500 copies and comes in a stylish digisleeve with artwork by Robin Storey. $14.77

Rapoon - Wasteland Raga (Aquarellist: Aqua11)

Brand new release from ethno-ambient act Rapoon. "While I was recently traveling through Eastern Europe recently, I passed through an area of industrial decline that reminded me strongly of the devastation of the Industrial heartlands of the UK during the early Thatcher years. The broken windows and twisted metal of the abandoned warehouses, the derelict pit-heads and the ruined factories all brought back memories of that grim time when the divide between rich and poor was never so obvious. Yet amongst the derelict factories and the red-brick estates of the North of England new music and art sprang forth as if driven by the desolate conditions. Out of the darkness came forth beauty in many forms. Wasteland Raga is a remembrance of those times when art and politics held close and intertwined out of a real sense of purpose and unity... Viva revolution!!!". Ltd x 1000 copies in a digipak with two artcards.. $14.77

Rasalhague - Theories Behind Chaos 3inch CD (Self-released: RM01)

I love getting releases like this...hidden gems that catch me by surprise and just completely deliver the goods. The Vestigial debut 3 inch was the same way. You listened to it, and you pretty much knew within the first 4 minutes that they were onto something out of the ordinary and a notch above the rest. And so, we have here Rasalhague. A one man project from Indiana, this debut is a swirling black mass of brooding drones and weighty cosmic doom. Definitely for fans of Vestigial, Terra Sancta, Cyclic Law, and things of that nature. One to keep an eye on. Rasalhague Myspace . $8.33

Rasthof Dachau - Free Speech Series 3inch (L-White: LW027/6)
5 tracks on this one. Pretty classically styled industrial…deep, pulsing heavy electronic atmospheres with a threatening, tension filled edge, some rhythmic elements, and muted, but strong vocals. The last three tracks are particularly strong, upping the aggression level with hard, looping rhythms and thick, penetrating frequency drones. Get’s better as it goes, this may be my favorite of the newest Free Speech batch. Part 6 of the series. $13.35

Rasthof Dachau - Prison Poems (Steinklang: SK36)

The first new full length record in seven years, Prison Poems" is a conceptual work about the Irish civil-rights movement of the 1970s. This album deals with the fate of a handful of young IRA hunger strikers, imprisoned for political affairs, but then simply sentenced as criminals. Most of the text on this album is taken from poems written by one of the strikers - on toilet and cigarette paper with the refill of a biro-pen, hidden inside his body in the years before he died. Confrontational and provocative heavy electronics with hard rhythms and pulsations, persistent, grinding loops, and cold, uneasy analog frequencies. At its best when it slows down and comes off as something Galakthorroe-ish, riding a vibe of isolation and angst, well in tune with the concept and theme.. $14.50

Raven's Bane - Sorrow Breeds (Baphomet: Baph133)
Second CD from the morbid mind of Profane Grace member Ixithra. Raven's Bane is a consummation of dark rumbling and ritualistic metamorphosis - black, ritual chamber ambience , ancient magick and evocations in eerie silence followed by sepulchral voices and the grim sounds of demons, evils and creatures of unknown horror. Fairly primitive and minimal with a lo-fi vibe that reminds me of some of the early cassette releases from Slaughter Productions or Old Europa Café. Baphomet. $3.00

Recondita Stirpe - Self Titled mCD (HauRuck!SPQR: Misty44)

Second press for this great band from Genoa , pure malichonic noir folk in the way only Italians knows! feat Diego Banchero from MALOMBRA e SEGNO DEL COMANDO, check some previews on : http://www.myspace.com/reconditastirpe. $12.00

Re-Drum - S (Zoharum: Zohar007)

New work by Pavel Aleshin whose previous recordings were released by Oophoi's record label Umbra and Slovakia-based Black Orchid Productions. This album explores the area of sacral and infinite, hence the title. S can be seen as the symbol of them. 4 long tracks of experimental drone-scapes using various sound sources (or so at seems) and incorporating melodies and some ritual nuances. Fans of Troum, Maeror Tri, and should find something to like here.. $12.66

Reformed Faction - Until... (Greytone: Grey03)

Reformed Faction are Robin Storey and Mark Spybey , both ex-members of zoviet*france and both with long established and productive solo careers as Rapoon and Dead Voices On Air respectively. As such, there's a definite ZF vibe that runs through here - dreamy, transcendental drones and shimmering, hazy textures that seem to stretch out into an endless horizon, with an ever so slight toe dip into ritualistic areas.. $11.66

Resignation - 1897 (205 Recordings: 205REC777)

Icy winds blowing in from the north as a blizzard is approaching. An old 78 rpm acetate record stuck in a scratch.Fading memories of brave men and grand ideas. The relentless beat of a lonely drummachine. All these elements are important parts of the unique soundpalette of Resignation.Consisting of Sweden´s most prolific musician Henrik Nordvargr Björkk (MZ.412, Folkstorm, Toroidh, HH9, Econocon, Vargar, Marvargr...) and debutant N-G Ekholm, the newly formed constellation is pushing the boundaries of what both ambient and techno (?) is all about. "We are inspired by the final word in the Swedish hero SA Andrée´s diary -"Resignation" and want to recreate the sound of that era of great exploaration and bravery, but in a modern way." “NG Ekholm”Cold, nostalgic sounding ambience mixed with melancholic orchestrationswith a minimalistic heartbeat like "rhythm" (and I use that term loosely) gently pulsating in the background. Surpisingly good.. $14.50

Reutoff - Regno di Pianta (Ewers Tonkunst: HHE001)

Re-issue! Proper release of the CDR released some years back on Ewers Tonkunst. Reutoff can be seen as one of the followers of a "real" industrial-approach, aesthetically and soundwise, but without just copying any of the old classics. As with previous cassette-only albums, this is a surprise again, as they move mostly in ambient industrial fields (dark synths, speech-samples, chorals, sound-effects), but sometimes they break in with very experimental or noisy rhythmical tracks, to cover the whole spectrum of industrial as we knew it. The overall atmosphere is again dark & gloomy, sometimes even melancholic and yearnful. 10 tracks, for industrial-lovers something to discover! Vital Weekly.. $6.33

Reutoff vs Der Blutharsch - Kreuzweg Drei (Ewers Tonkunst: IST066)

The third issue in a series of collaborations between Reutoff and their friends. This issue includes 2 remixes of Der Blutharsch track from "When All Else Fails" by Reutoff, one remix of Reutoff track from "ReuTRauM III" 7" by Der Blutharsch and one exclusive track from each artist. The CD is housed in the same carton die-cut inner envelope. 5 tracks, 30 mins in total. First edition of 700 copies. Russian import.. $15.50

Reutoff vs Deutsch Nepal - Kreuzung Vier (Indiestate: IST067)

The fourth issue in a series of collaborations between Reutoff and their friends. This issue includes 3 tracks from Reutoff based on the source material by Deutsch Nepal and 3 tracks suite called “Jigsaw Puzzeling With A Dismembered Reutoff” created by Deutsch Nepal using the sounds delivered by Reutoff. A nice mixture of sturdy, industrial loops, and more surreal, flowing soundscapes. The release comes in a special "Kreuzung" series package made of brown kraft carton with a full colour stickered artwork/info cover and Reutoff logo embossed on the back, the CD is housed in the same carton die-cut inner envelope. 6 tracks, 50 mins in total. First edition of 400 copies.. $12.50

Reutoff vs Troum - Kreuzung Zwei (Ewers Tonkunst: IST06)

The second in Kreuzung collaborations series. The basic sound sources and samples made by Reutoff especially for this release have been treated, arranged and mixed with an addition of their own instrumental parts by Troum. Dark profound harsh ambient with some occasional rhythmic patterns intertwined with transcendental prepared guitar loops and perfect drone noises - a perfect blend between two project distinctive features and creative manners. The concept of this work is based on cosmology of Hildegard von Bingen. The release comes in a special “Kreuzung” series package made of brown kraft carton with a full colour stickered artwork/info cover and Reutoff logo embossed on the back, the CD is housed in the same carton die-cut inner envelope. On a more editorial note...I'm really sleepy and sinusy today, and listening is really putting me in a nice foggy, hazy day dream. I have other stuff I have to listen to and I'm having a hard taking this out of the CD player. In other words, good stuff.. $15.33

Richard Ramirez vs Neuropathic Force Feedback - Richard Ramirez vs Neuropathic Force Feedback (L-White: LW023)
The press release calls this is a collaboration, but it appears to be just a split release, with one long track from each artist. RR delivers almost 30 minutes of harsh noise full of squelching feedback blasts, distorted vocalizations, and well, NOISE. I never know what else to write.NFF comes equipped with a thicker, not as abrasive sound, with minor leanings towards power electronics, though still very abusive. No image at this time, sorry. $4.00

Riharc Smiles - The Last Green Days of Summer (Ahnstern: Ahnstern11)
Celtic influenced, neo-folk with a medieval flare. Very well produced, traditional sounding music with varied instrumentation including bagpipes, hand drums, guitar, and unique vocals. One of the most successful Lps ever released on Ahnstern, now on CD. In wooden box. Ahnstern. $15.66

Rising Shadows - Found in the Cold (Twilight Recordings: TW1.54)

The music of Swedish group Rising Shadows isn't easily defined in a genre but more easily so in mood and influences. Playing a dreamy kind of music with many traditional and folk inspired songs utilizing some medieval music instrumentation. Just imagine a mix of Dead Can Dance, Ennio Morricone and Kate Bush and you'll be getting close to the sound of Rising Shadows. The new album 'Found In The Cold' (released in December 2008) continues the theme of the previous album 'Falling Deep Within', but this time bringing their work a more cold and harsh tone with distorted landscapes. Musically and lyrically their vision of the journey from life to death. Rising Shadows originally started out as a one-man project of composer Fredrik Klingwall in 1996 but with the addition of vocalist Linda-li in 2004, and ex-Katatonia bassist Guillaume Le Huche in 2008 they continue to develop their sound. Apart from appearing on a couple of compilations they have so far released two albums; Falling Deep Within(2006) and Found in the Cold (2008) both on Argentinian label Twilight Records. $4.00

Ritual Front - Strahlungen (Der Angriff: IST057)

After more than two years of work, the most promising Russian dark folk act has returned with their new album. "Strahlungen" is much more mature, professional and carefully produced than the debut CD "Lightings Over Crimson Hill", and at the same time it has lost neither its energy nor its honesty and sincerity. Ten tracks about the difficult questions of honor and pride, choice and liability, death and rebirth sang in Russian will be more than transparent to the worldwide audience since those challenges don't know the national borders. The release is limited to 500 copies and comes in a very special silver embossed cardboard package reminding of vinyl cover with an inner sleeve, There is also 32 pages full color booklet inside with lyrics in Russian and German (the German translations done by Gerhard Hallstatt from Allerseelen).. $16.99

Roma Amor - Femmina (Old Europa Café: OECD122)

Second album from this Italian duo. Terrific, totally authentic and well done noir-cabaret. Think smokey cafe on a dark Roman side street, this is the music of old Europa - romantic, sombre and melancholy with it's steady accordian drone, raspy female vocals, and gentle guitar melodies.. $14.33

Rome - L'Assassin mCD (Trisol: TRI382)

The Assassin - Murder? Crime of passion? Rome's new 'Chanson Noir' speaks of man's enslavement in a world of constant transformation. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more influential in their current work. Chansonniers like Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel and singer / songwriter heroes like Cave, Cash and Cohen are obvious influences. This is the darker side of singer / songwriter tradition: post-industrial-folk with elements of Electro-Pop, complex arrangements of breathtaking melodies, mesmerising ballads of lyrical beauty, underlining Rome's ethos of never faltering or remaining uninvolved. Features four songs, among which the exclusive and intimate track "One Flesh", along with reinvented, "stringed" versions of two classic tracks "Der Erscheinungen Flucht' and 'Der Brandtaucher' (from "Masse Mensch Material"). Rome: unmasked, honest and authentic! Digipak.. $12.00

Roto Visage - Where the Mandrakes Grow (Autumn Wind Productions: AWP028)

From Crucial Blast: "Another album of skincrawling death ambient shrouded in mystery from Autumn Winds, Where The Mandrakes Grow appears to be the first actual cd from the Cali artist Jason Popejoy, who records his hellish ambient landscapes under the name Roto Visage. Prior to this, Roto Visage has cranked out a pretty sizeable catalog of releases both in the realm of digital-only Mp3 downloads that have circulated throughout the net, and small-edition CDR titles on labels like Beast Of Prey and Bone Structure. I haven't heard any of his earlier recordings yet, but Where The Mandrakes Grow shows this guy to be a skilled architect of deeply disturbing, often downright frightening death ambience. The disc comes in a posh six-panel digipack that has some really wild photo-collage artwork from Anastasia Sarandou that looks like a mix of Lynchian surrealism and Clive Barker's flesh-rending visions, and which sets the stage for the nightmare sonics that come pouring off of this album once it starts. There are eight tracks, most averaging around six minutes but with a few epics reaching twelve or more minutes in length, and each documents a descent into a stygian underworld of sound filled with massive cavernous rumblings, crushing distorted klaxon blasts that are so heavy they almost sound like metallic powerchords grinding in the distance, seriously creepy spoken word parts that are delivered either by a demonic raspy whisper or a slurred moan, as if the speaker is lost in a trance-state. There's a definite Lustmord feel to much of this, but Popejoy brings his own unique language of dread to the pieces, incorporating grinding industrial loops buried under miles of metallic shimmer, fragments of haunting orchestral melody, recordings of footsteps or something heavy echoing through endless corridors, washes of pitch-black cosmic synthesizer, and samples of someone frantically gasping for air, the latter appearing in a couple of spots and which ties in to the themes of auto-erotic asphyxiation that are part of the concept behind these recordings. It's an intensely unsettling album that nevertheless reveals moments of stunning sonic beauty from within the drifting black shadows and terrifying sound events that populate these soundscapes. Fans of the really dark ambient/industrial stuff like Yen Pox, Lustmord, R|A|A|N, the Aural hypnox school of ritualistic black drift, Megaptera and Inanna will love this. Mastered by ambient master Robert Rich, and limited to 1,000 copies.". $11.99

Roughhausen - Agony of the Beat (Tinderbox Records: TBR023)

The former guitar player for Front Line Assembly, Will and Decree unleashes a ferocious assault of Electronic Alchemy and technological mayhem. Pretty electro by Malignant mailorder standards, but the fact this has it's roots in Decree was enough for me. Dark, angry, and riddled with grooves, futuristic atmospheres, noise, and pounding dance floor rhythms. $6.00

Rukkanor - Deora (War Office Propaganda: WOP25)
A brand new Rukkanor's CD brings a mix of styles and cultures….exotic, East Asian influenced percussion, stirring Military marches and neo-classical brass, synthetic beats , Gregorian chants, and more. Normally I like things a bit more focused, but all of this is very skillfully produced and never seems disjointed. In parts this actually reminds me a little bit of Sephiroth (though not as epic or …well, good…but that says more about Sephiroth than Rukkanor).. $13.33

Rukkanor - Despartica; Face One (War Office Propaganda: Wop44)
Another chapter in Rukkanor’s musical book, Despartica is the first part of a double set centered around 19th and 20th century poems. Varied musically, ranging from strong industrial and martial pieces, to dark, melodic passages with flowing string accompaniments and rich instrumentation. Lyrics and vocals in every track Layered, complex, and very well produced.. $15.35

Rukkanor - Despartica; Face Two (Rage in Eden: Rage64)

"Face Two" from Rukkanor's "Despartica" series offers a broad mixture of styles and musical ages. Echoes of 70's electronics, new romantic sonorities of the 80s (OMD, Numan, Heaven 17, Visage), a bit of industrial, a pinch of EBM, a touch of synth-pop... followed by the specific interpretation of 19th and 20th Century poetry. This time in a more gothic and electromantic "musical sauce". Beware! This CD contains no martial or neo-folk songs, but don't let that scare you away, as this is a pretty outstanding record. The very last album by Rukkanor. 11 potential hits! 44 minutes, in a digipak designed by Michal Karcz.. $13.99

Rukkanor - Ende CDEP (War Office Propaganda: WOP36)
"Ende" is retrospective compilation of unpublished tracks of Rukkanor. Five tracks composed during Scontum Act IV, Triumvire and the Despartica sessions with a supplemental live recording of the track Virus Dei, in a new interesting arrangement. Epic, war themed, heavily militaristic atmospheres with strong brass and percussion. Well produced stuff that can hold it’s own against some bigger names in the field. Lmtd 400 copies. $11.50

Rukkanor - Requiem for K-141 Kursk CDBox (Rage in Eden: Rage67)

Re-edition of long deleted legendary CDR release. This time comes only in handmade wodden box limited to 118 copies! Dedicated to the remembrance of the 118 members of the crew of the Russian nuclear submarine Kursk that sunk on the 12th of August 2000 in the Barentsz Sea. Sombre orchestrations and melancholy, icy cold atmospheres with sounds and samples fitting the subject matter and suggestive of the claustrophobia and fear the crew members must have experienced. Comes with a dog tag.. $37.00

RYR - In the Spring 117 CDR (UFA Muzak: UFA05)
A cool collage of avant-garde, apocalyptic, martial sounds, intermingled with samples, dark noise, and cold, ritual nuances. Lo-fi, but sincere and authentic. Lmtd 117. On the rather mysterious Russian label UFA Muzak (who remind me a bit of Membrum Debile Propoganda).. $8.00
