Oblivion Ensemble - Seraphim Hallucino (Malignant: TumorCD28)

The music of Oblivion Ensemble remains as elusive and surreal as the ever-shifting cast of musicians and performerswho participate, knowingly, or unknowingly in their work.Founding members are John Bergstrom and Brannon Hungness (aka Figure). Hungness is a virtuoso experimentalguitarist and composer and a former member of the Glenn Branca Ensemble. Bergstrom is a computer-musicgearhead and a film composer with a classical music pedigree, and mastermind behind the industrial-noise assembly Torse. Seraphim Hallucino is Oblivion Ensemble’s fifth full-length release, the first since the virtual opera “Nightmare:Sinistrotorse” (Complacency, 1995). At Seraphim Hallucino’s source are strange, electro-acoustic improvisations of percussion, trumpet, voice, synthesizers and guitar. These improvisations are sculpted and sampled, twisted and turned, shaped into building and diminishing moments, and, at times appearing alone, pure and unmodified. Deeply imbedded in the music and fragmented lyrics are secrets, intertwining themes, voices, and imprinted messages. All come together to create an enormously complex, mercurial mix of surreal, dynamic and dark sounds. To fully appreciate the scope and intricacies of Seraphim Hallucino, headphones in a darkened room are highly recommended. “ The band most likely to compose a fitting soundtrack for the end of the world. ” Sorted magAZine.“ Visionary gothic pyschedelia. ” The Wire.“ the most undefinable gorgeous musical anything that I have ever witnessed ... a beyond great performance, chilling and anxious. ” Best of Times. In superb digipak, with artwork by Matt Vickerstaff of darkwaveart.co.uk. $7.00

Oda Relicta - Leper Mass (Twilight Recordings: TW1.55)

3rd CD from this Ukranian project...a commemoration to "all the Georgians slaughtered by Russian aggressors in bloody summer of the 2008". Like it's predecessor, recording sessions took place at the metropolitan conservatoire to achieve the classical effect. Very professionally done, with heavenly soprano vocals soaring over refined orchestrations. Sombre, sacred, and peaceful, yet very emotive and moving.. $8.00

Of Swine and Swill - Self Titled (Live Bait: LBRF028)

Like an ancient bottle of Absinthe found buried in some dark cellar, you’ve discovered something very unique here. Elements of the classics, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Hawkwind perfume the air as an aural louche, sonic clouds swirling with Industrial soundscapes a la Deutsch Nepal or In Slaughter Natives, with a touch of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Stephen Petrus (Murderous Vision) and John Potter (Flintknap/Murderous Vision) created the initial concepts for Of Swine and Swill as childhood friends. Musical discussions turned to all night experimentations. Recording sessions turned into weekends, then weeks of nothing but the music. Over the course of the summer of ’08, Stephen and John blended their rock and electronic roots into a finely honed project, with over an hour of material recorded. With the addition of Rick Pfluger (Reichardt Van Grieken, Rambler 454) contributing vocals on two tracks, and eventually joining the project full time, the circle has been made complete.Without the constraints nor boundaries of any one genre, the music of Of Swine and Swill is very personal, introspective and emotional, a palette of color, aggressive yet subtle. Atmospheric, yet never a passive listen! The album features a 8 page full color booklet, which includes all lyrics and artwork by both John and Stephen. Limited to 1000 Professionally replicated copies.. $11.00

Olhon - Sinkhole (Eibon: OHL062)

2nd CD from Olhon, the cooperative project of Massimo Magrini (Bad Sector) and Zairo (Where). "Sinkhole" was composed using original field recordings taken mainly underwater in the "Pozzo del Merro", the world's deepest sinkhole just outside of Rome. The result is an extremely organic dark ambient journey of 10 tracks, starting at the entrance (dry section) and descending beyond 400 meters in depth to ‘unexplored‘ regions. Using special microphones and sensing hardware, the recorded sounds were then treated in studio using basic processing; pitch shifting, filtering, reverberating, mixing and fading. Appropriately, this get’s darker and more claustrophobic as it goes, with deep, resonant tones, eerie, alien noises, and some pretty dynamic washes of sound and breathy pulsations. Cool stuff. Presented in a nice full colour digisleeve.. $13.66

Oophois - An Aerial View (Glacial Movements: WSGM01)

First offering from the 'Würm Series', based on the world's most recent glaciation (10,000 years ago) and asking each artist to describe this endless Ice Age. "When I’ve been asked to describe the Ice Age with an uninterrupted drone, I knew I wanted to avoid the cliches of the genre: dark rumblings, massive low frequencies, cold atmospheres. I had to describe with sounds the white landscape, the blinding light reflected by the frozen oceans, the abyssal silence. I have imagined myself in flight over this Sleeping Earth, a solitary winged-being surrounded by winds, air, water and ice. This led me to compose an airy drone with minimal variations and delicate tones, an homage to a pure, uncontaminated and remote land" (Oöphoi). A singular 65-minute track presented in a digipak. Ltd x 750.. $14.66

O Paradis - Pequenas Canciones de Amor (Tourette Records: Tourette005)

Nicely put review from gothtronic.com sums it's up best: " The new album of O Paradis is released by the new American label Tourette records, based in Houston, Texas. Of all places. Pequenas Canciones de Amor shows a recognisable sound in which post-industrial, neofolk and Mediterranean folkloristic sounds melt together in a sultry and sometimes erotic sounding musical whole. It seems that the atmosphere on this new album of O Paradis is lighter than on previous works. Whether this is due to Demian has found a female muse, such as the picture of the girl in sexy underwear on the cd cover suggests, is not exactly clear, but fact is that on this new O Paradis album a vocal contribution is present of one Conny who sings in the Bob Dylan cover ‘It Ain’t Me’. The musically quite varied album contains with ‘Como una Nube’ a song which has been written by Jurgen Weber from Novy Svet. The instrumentation in the convincing song ‘Barill de Vino’ is beautiful with a.o. violin played by one Oriol. ‘La Noche de Brahman’ is dominated by the atmospheric ambient sounds and ‘La Mascara del Miedo’ would not be out of place in an obscure revue theatre. Further highlights include the songs ‘Pergamino’ and ‘La Peste y la Luna’. Pequenas Canciones de Amor is again an album with a great selection of minimal pop in the typical style of O Paradis. Perhaps the best so far.". A must for fans of Novy Svet et al. Inexplicably pricey for a domestic release.. $5.00

Operation Julmond - Twice Minded 3inch CDr (Steinklang: SK24)

Two tracks of uneasy analogue eletronics, power-noise, and smashing sarcasm for the industrial-floor.. $7.00

Orchestra Noir - What If.... (Neuropa: NRP28)

This is the first full-length album from Tony Wakeford's new-look Orchestra Noir since its resurrection as a London based project. With a move away from the martial towards musicians and compositions more based on chamber, and early music. In 2006 a collaboration started with Current 93 collaborator Richard Moult and acclaimed oboist Mark Baigent based initially on the words and music of Tony Wakeford but which soon flourished as a collaboration between the three and later with the acclaimed early-music violinists and viola players, Ben Sansom and Alexandria Lawrence. With the addition of Sol Invictus percussionist M and flutist Guy Harries, a synthesis of experimental and traditional took place with unhealthy dollops of Edwardian dark whimsy, humor and satire. Aided by the folki voice of Autumn Grieve and the Jazz improvisation of Jessica Constable, an intriguing new direction had begun. $14.50

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio - Onani (Practice Makes Perfect_ (Cold Meat Industry: CMI191)

Super jewelcase version with 28-pages booklet - all lyrics!Imagine the force of countless orgasms focused into a single purpose, a single vision made flesh- and you have Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio's 8th full-length album: O N A N I - [Practice makes Perfect].This release, two years in the making, inspired partly by la petit mort, the little death achieved by one's own hands or by the hands of others (as four hands please better than two) continues in the O.R.E. tradition of opulent depravity and decadent beauty as an unrestrained aural and aesthetic opus to the drives of man, sealed with apocalips kisses. The music is in the ever-evolving sound of O.R.E., seductive and somber – this time possibly with a more "pop" orientation, which makes the songs all the more poignant. Lush guitars, pounding percussions, humming organs and pianos, church choirs, subtle moans and female vocals by muse and mistress Rose-Marie Larsen, and the added new element of a softly throbbing drummachine creates the evocative, ravenous soundtrack. And yet above all hovers the most dominant element- the stern and yet alluring voice of the visionary behind O.R.E., Tomas Pettersson, singing, speaking, inviting us to cum with him. There is a sensible melancholy for what has been lost and for what will never be, mixed with wanton visceral visions and fullfilment – carnal love and hate, joy and grief. Tinged with subtle black humor, like a movie of Tinto Brass put into a musical score – and there's even a song in italian. All the dreamlike masturbatory images in the album-artwork are derived from the lustrous and willing ranks of the Army of Roses and Equilibrium, and yet this is not mere porn or cheap erotica, but divine and infernal eroticism unrestrained. A fire of unhinged desire kindled to a raging flame that ignites and consumes, and that in the end, we are consumed by – the fire of life.Sexual magic made manifest, or merely dandy decadence for the an erotic eschatology, or both - you decide. And be that as it may, in the end, this will leave you on the floor to plead and beg for more.. $14.33

Oro!Oro! - Prarastos Ziemos (Autarkeia: ACD019)

Translucent, ambient soundscapes created without the use of any electronic devices - the only sound sources here are an harmonica, a guitar and a zither. Shimmering stretches of cold, elongated driftscapes…linear and streamlined, but peaceful and quietly hypnotic. For fans of the quieter aspects of Troum, Moljebka Pvlse, and Thoms Koner, minus the sub sonic vibrations. It's amazing that the same label that just released the virulent Survival Unit just released this.. $5.99
