Nadja - Autopergamene
(Essence Music: ESS013)
 |
Call it drone-doom-dirge-shoegaze or any other in vogue nomenclature you like. It doesn’t matter. The music is so sublime and superb that we consider a waste of time trying to further categorize the spiraling sounds exhaling from a NADJA album. They are simply the true originators of this bred of blissful, seriously intense and ominously ethereal heavy sounds and one the few acts – along with the genius solo work from the duo’s main composer, Aidan Baker – we are truly obsessed with these days. That said, we are more than glad to welcome the Canadian duo to Essence Music with an immense masterwork!Autopergamene – a spell or charm wherein you write in blood, on a fragment of skin, what you wish to happen – finds NADJA at the peak of their sonic language of slow-blooming, heavily nuanced ambient guitar constructions and slow motion, lush, epic heaviness.Divided in three colossal movements, the album starts with the blissful, paced and almost orchestral – much aided by three guest members on strings and Aidan’s trombone, flute and piano – “You Write Your Name in My Skin”, travels through the straight up, super distorted and fuzzed out rumbling sludge riffages of “You Write Your Name in My Head” and its semi-growling processed vocals to finally unfold the nearly half-hour long “You Write My Name in Your Blood” that gracefully starts with delicate, lush acoustic guitars glacially giving birth to an enormous, shimmering and heavily layered symphonic wall to then submerge and bring in a hazy, sparkling and almost passionate, yet twisted, duetto of Aidan-Leah’s male-female voices. Breathtaking.Lavishly assembled in a custom 6-panel digisleeve packaging housing a 6 cards set with beautiful watercolor paintings and artwork by the gifted Portuguese artist L Filipe dos Santos. Superb mastering via James Plotkin.. $14.00

Navicon Torture Technologies - The Arrow and the Wound
(Eibon: Nav048)
 |
Once again entering the deranged mindset of the jilted lover-turned-sexual predator, NTT is back with The Arrow and the Wound, the second NTT CD on Italys Eibon Records. Power Romance philosophy is in full effect on this album, as Leech delivers his most absolutely brutish levels of misogyny yet. As always, this boundless loathing is tempered with the tender recriminations of a mortally wounded soul, creating an atmosphere of emotional depravity existing on a plane of insalubrious reality where lust is confused with longing and love is intermingled with delerium. Gaping wounds beckon to the mentally ill, who throw themselves from giddying heights into bottomless pits of wet lacerated flesh only to rise up covered in the blood of those who have injured them the most... Collecting material from various extremely limited CD-R releases, including a cover version of the influential track Listen, Bitch! by Intrinsic Action and a fantastic remix by SKM-ETR, The Arrow and the Wound contains collaborative input by Sickness, Fragment Kingell as West coast experimentalist Maliks and longtime NTT collaborator Tim Spann of Abfall. As always, a caustic, bruising attack, exorcising personal demons and sending out malevolent frequencies the sonic equivalent of 20 flesh piercing steel hooks coming straight at your chest.. $13.00

Navicon Torture Technologies - The Gospels of the Gash 2CD
(Malignant: TumorCD39)
 |
The final and definitive double CD release from NTT, The Gospels of the Gash chronicles one man's journey into a world devoid of light or hope. This is a place where the air is alive with the stink of pain and the beating of great black wings. The two discs compile material from a slew of limited releases from 2005-2007, as well as newer tracks recorded specifically for this release. As a result, Gospels of the Gash is unquestionably the most complete NTT recording to date and nothing short of a monumental achievement...a culmination of the best aspects of past releases combined into an epic odyssey of apocalyptic atmospheres, brutish frequencies, harrowing darkness, and razor sharp vocals. The Gospels of the Gash includes collaborations with various stalwart members of the NTT priesthood such as Cenotype, Fragment King, and M Slagle and more recent converts Autoclav 1.1 and Covet. Isomer and Steel Hook Prostheses have also made valuable contributions.Mastered by STROM.ec, and packaged in a two-tray DVDigipak with layout and artwork by Leech and Jorden Haley (www.karbine.com), this release is a fitting funerary rite for NTT. Please note, the boxset will follow at a later date. Even though there will be copies with the Gospels 2CD in it, you will have the opportunity to buy it as a separate entity, minus the $14.33 cost. In other words, dont feel like you have to wait for the boxset before getting the regular 2CD! With all due respect to all the other artists, this may be the finest Malignant release ever.. $14.33

Nebelkorona - Tannenhochforst

Necrophorus - Drifting in Motion
(Old Europa Café: OECD104)
 |
Arctic ambience, melting with imagination, leads the listener to the frozen tundra at the top of the world. This rarely explored land, resonant with a shimmering radiance that is bleak, barren and mysterious, is distinguished by slivers of fantastical nuances that twinkle like crystals under the midnight sun. The above quotation was taken from a review of the original CD release of Drifting in Motion (2000 on Crowd Control Activities). Now, 8 years later it is time for an enhanced re-release for even more refined sound and experience of Drifting in Motion. The entire album has been carefully re-mixed in 2007 and has been spiced with 3 more nuances.Peter Andersson is a multi-talented man most famous for his Raison d'Etre D'ETRE project on Cold Meat Industry but he is also are responisble for music projetcs like Stratvm Terror, Bocksholm, Atomine Elektrine, Panzar and many more. For this new release, two artists, Maria Gullqvist (Sweden) and Eva Verholen (Holland) have been asked to contribute with their own impressions of experiencing Drifting in Motion. Their amazing works are presented on the completely new designed CD artwork in a six panels digipak.. $14.99

Necrophorus - Imprints
(Wrotycz: WRT006)
 |
Beautiful, sensitive and electrified: Imprints from Necrophorus (Peter Andersson/Raison DEtre) goes beyond the previous album Elinros (2005) by further investigating the aural landscape of imagination and mysticism. Imprints vibrates with a fresh air mix of three-dimensional electrified organic field recordings and minimal immersive sequenced organ sounds. With psychedelic atmospheres and aural landscapes inspired by impressions of Iceland, Peter Andersson has created a new astonishing aural output.. $13.25

Necrophorus - Moments of Sleeping Sadness (The Early Works 1991-1992)
(Tantric Harmonies: TantraX41)
 |
Unlike the latter works of Necrophorus, these tracks are more gothic in nature, not the flowing ambient and textural stuff you've come to expect (though, there is certainly some of that). These songs are more structured and melodic, hinting at similarities to some Raison d'Etre, though perhaps more "active" and majestic. Could find appeal with fans of In The Nursery, Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites, early Ildfrost, Penitent, Endvra, Arcana or even the gothic icon Dead Can Dance. $12.99

Negru Pulse - Madeira
(Old Europa Café: OECD056)
Collaborative effort between Negru Voda and Moljelbka Pulse. Great dark ambient in the fine Swedish tradition
two long, beautifully pure and dark tracks with a bleak northern feel. The shimmering drones of Moljebka blending with the more threatening noise interludes and pulsating blackness of Negru Voda. To make an analogy, like shafts of diffused light entering dank catacombs full of rusted machinery and scattered bones. Drifting enough to lull you to sleep, scary enough to wake you up. SALE!. $13.00
Nekrasov - Cognition of Splendid Oblivion

Nekrasov - Extinction
(Crucial Blast: CBR86)
 |
Riding atop the recent wave of black metal/noise hybrids who combine the bleak frosty riffs and blackened ferocity of underground BM with blown-out and corrosive strains of industrial noise (see also WOLD, Emit, Grief No Absolution, Enbilulugugal, Vargr), the Australian one-man band Nekrasov has so far made a substantial mark in the realm of extremist necro-racket with a series of limited edition, brutally abrasive albums (Cognition Of Splendid Oblivion, The Form Of Thought From Beast, etc) that have mostly been self-released, save for some recent offerings on labels like Siege Of Power and Chrome Leaf. Early on, Nekrasov's sound was steeped in caustic noise, a blazing industrialized black metal assault that was doused in heavy levels of irradiated distortion and Merzbowian skree. But more recently, it's mutated into less metallic regions, alternating the hyperblast black metal with forays into crushing, demonic wall-noise and blasted ambience. Now, Nekrasov is back with a new full length (the first for Crucial Blast), and it's the most advanced slab of their blacknoize terror that we've heard so far. An octagonal prism of isolationist drone, flesh-rending mechanical black metal, abstract otherworldly beauty, claustrophobic industrial dread, and the most violent, suffocating strains of harsh noise, Extinction is pure cyclonic contempt for humanity. The eight-song disc combines hyperspeed cybernetic blastscapes and bleak black metal riffage, the tracks often revealing snarled minor key melodies that are buried deep beneath blizzard blasts of machinegun drum machines, the drums veering through nerve-fraying rhythmic shifts, and acidic croaks bathed in black hiss. Triumphant frost-bitten riffs scream out of maelstroms of violent distortion, and Choral voices soar through a cyclone of helicoptering blastbeats and sheets of blown-out, ultra distorted drone, streaked with bits of gorgeous vibraphone-like melody, somber Hammond-like organ drones and looped synth, sometimes breaking off into grinding slo-motion industrial throb or swirling kosimiche drift. The tracks on Extinction go back and forth between the noisier, more industrial like material and overt black metal, though the two sides of Nekrasov's sound are always present together. When the sound does move into pure noise, it's either vast fields of minimal ambient drift, metallic clank and distant percussive sounds, utterly bleak Lustmordian soundscapes, or crushing, almost HNW-style slabs of molten noise, scouring waves of hellish skree and crushing slow-motion tidal surges of jet-black sonic syrup flecked with dubbed-out blasts of tectonic crush and electronic glitches that ripple across the void.Closing the album, the title track descends even further into black industrial crush, a monstrous, almost seventeen-minute long sprawl of plodding, simple drum pound echoing within a slowly swirling fog of distorted fx, churning, billowing black ambience, buried black buzz, an endless whirlpool of blown-out synthesizers and the immense black breath of leviathan lungs heaving deep below the surface.Like everything else from Nekrasov, this album is loaded with blasting inhuman drumming and ferocious riffing that form into noise-drenched trance-scapes of bestial industrial BM, but the attention to texture and sound sculpture elevates this above most mechanized black metal projects, with immersive layers of electronic sound, creative stereo panning techniques, and other production tricks that create a harsh, alien atmosphere that is pretty unique to Nekrasov's sound. This is a scorching new chapter from one of our favorite bands out there right now fusing black metal and noise. The cd version comes packaged in a full color six-panel digipack.. $10.00

Netherworld - Kall - The Abyss Where Dreams Fall
(Angle Rec: EQ0503)
I liked what Netherworld had to say about their music, so I've cut and pasted it here
I think it describes the overall vibe very well: Into the deepness of my essence there is a wired, dark, silent, glacial and eternal place. This imaginary place contains a sort of parallel reality that I've named Netherworld. Netherworld manifests itself to me as a kind of faster abstract sensation that I feel instantly and I catch up through the making of my music. I switch, shift and record (with my microphones) environment's sounds and sibilance; for example a gate while it's opening, or a subterranean noise of a brook's courier, or also, ice's blocks motion, ghost's voices, gongs and crystals while broken.I'm interested in catch up sounds generated from the nature's flow. Through my music, I would like to play the quietness of the silence, desolate darkness and glacial landscapes.Kall, in particular, is another strong recording
seemingly minimalist at first glance, but upon further inspection, full of nuances and multiple subtleties. There is absolutely nothing stagnant or slow moving about this record
its dense, emotive, and bleak Limited to 441 copies! Deluxe cardboard sleeve. $8.00
Netherworld - Mørketid
(Glacial Movements: GM002)
 |
Mørketid" is a Norwegian term that indicates a certain period in the year when the Arctic winter cold encases everything and the sun doesnt rise over the horizon. Its a cold and dark period that distinguishes regions and people living in the Artic. The music here is composed using short fragments of sounds found in the Arctic area. These are documented and subsequently sampled and then completely transformed into new forms and therefore a new vision of the Arctic. Flowing, atmospheric beauty, with a peaceful celestial feel, yet still remaining desolate and cold. Music to drift away to. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.. $15.33

Netherworld - Six Impending Clouds
(Gears of Sand: GOS010)
Re-stock! His creations as forbidding as his moniker, Netherworld works drones the color of pitch, expunged from the Lovecraftian depths of bottomless cosmic sinkholes. Six Impending Clouds reveals a distinct malevolence thats palpable throughout; synths paint the sky in gradating hues of black, drones heave like the breathing of a formless, other-dimensional hulk, tones flair briefly in the ether before suddenly expiring or retreating timidly back into the darkness. Its all kind of unnerving stuff, a soundtrack fit to accompany night tremors after reading too much Stephen King or Clive Barker, true dark ambient thats something of a bastard cousin to Steve Roachs The Magnificent Void or Darkest Before Dawn. Despite the surface density, this isn't an oppressive music nor does it sludge on like the doomcore melt of Boris or any of a dozen Norwegian death-metal drone clones; rather, it is isolationist music of an arresting nature that fairly subsumes you into its vortex. It might lack the storied consideration of Lull, or the tempered consideration of Lustmord, but the emotional schema at play won't make any less an impact. Careful with that ax, Eugene. Review from i/e magazine.. $5.00
New Risen Throne - Whispers of the Approaching Wastefulness
(Cyclic Law: 18th Cycle)
 |
Finally re-stocked! The latest offering and first for Cyclic Law of one of Italy's finest Black Ambient master.Great, all encompassing stuff
bleak, desolate and thickly layered with sinister tones, ritual nuances, and textural drifts. The main concept and transpiring feeling of this album and the title "Whispers of the approaching wastefulness" can best be described as the "steps" or "journey" leading to the acknowledgment of the approaching end of all things. "Whispers" represent doubts and thoughts about the prevalent decadence that is around and deep within us and "wastefulness" translates to the imminent, definitive end of all things, to oblivion...The album is divided into 3 chapters: I - Oblivious to unknown threat (first signs) Tracks 1 & 2, II - Acquisition of knowledge (signs) Tracks 3, 4 & 5, III - Advent of a definitive wastefulness (final signs) Track. This Enhanced CD features an Exclusive Bonus video clip of the track "Unknown ( II )" with the first Limited Edition copies presented in a 6 panel textured cardboard sleeve. Recommended!. $12.99

Nihil Novi Sub Sole - Jupiter Temple
(My Kingdom Music: Echo57)
 |
Here is the new born musical apocalypse of Dutch mastermind Marco Kehren (Deinonychs). Nihil Novi Sub Sole takes the listener into a downward spiral of dark stained compositions, which combines dark Ambient sounds with eerie sounding orchestration and choirs wrapped in Martial Industrial-like sound compositions, with heavy militaristic drums. Evidently influenced by the like of Rome. Mastered by Axel Frank (Werkraum, Sturmpercht). Beautifully presented in an A5 digipak. $13.33

Niko Skorpio - Half Born in Half Light
(Some Place Else: SPE8049)
 |
"Half Born in Half Light" is based on the foundations of psychedelic ambient soundscapes and darkly majestic bass drone, over which tribal rhythms and magickal vocal invocations build grotesque alien monoliths, whose angles mock the euclidean mathematics of conventional composition. Niko Skorpio is not restricted to one particular genre, but draws on many sources. This makes the music colourful and diverse, yet it remains coherent and has the artists unique fingerprints all over (this time literally in the cover as well). Standard PVC sleeve with beautiful 12-page booklet.. $5.00

Niko Skorpio - Psilocybe Necrophila
(Some Place Else: SPECD9052)
 |
Niko Skorpios new album is called Psilocybe Necrophila, referring to a psychoactive mushroom that grows on decomposing flesh. Although recorded mostly in 2007, parallel to last years acclaimed Half Born in Half Light, it is quite a different trip. The basis of this work was Niko Skorpios old cassette tape collection from the 1980s. Containing mostly heavy metal demos and live bootlegs, the dozens of kilometres of obsolete tape were sacrificed on the altar of creation.Does consciousness survive decomposition?Magnetic tape as a symbol of DNA was deconstructed, cut, mangled, eaten and torn apart by a number of malfunctioning cassette players. These emerging mutations were captured, processed and reconstructed, over and over until a new form began to take shape. Carefully chosen and prepared additional ingredients were then introduced to this primal tissue in order to impregnate it with a new kind of energy. Metaphorically speaking, soul was injected into the golem. As is common with Niko Skorpios works, the album works thematically on many levels. On the immediate surface it reflects a surreal journey to the deepest chasms of inner space, where quite unexpectedly one may find herself in wholly unfamiliar surroundings. And whats more, one may not find herself alone anymore, but instead, communicating with something unknown. And it always gets the darkest just before dawn. But whatever happens, eventually the dawn comes. In the end we return to where it all began, but affected, observing that things will never be the same again. Some call Psilocybe Necrophila a death album. Skorpio agrees and adds: It can be perceived as symbolising the process of death and reincarnation. Besides, it is likely to remain the last conventional album from me in the foreseeable future, so calling it a death album has certain appeal.. $5.00

Nitrous Flesh - Shadow Fracture
(Tantric Terror: Kali01)
 |
The first official release from this Denver project, released in conjuction with the CDRs listed below. Outstanding work on a whole, unabashedly influenced by the likes of Ah Cama Sotz, Sleep Chamber, Morgenstern, Hybryds, and the like, but carrying a flavor all it’s own. Shadow Fracture is arguably the ‘slickest’ of the batch….some heavy ritual/beat driven percussion in the beginning, before setting into disturbing horror/occult atmospheres and deformed soundscapes straight from your darkest nightmares (or Miskatonic University ;) . Signifies the emergence of a great new American project.. $9.00
|
Njurmännen - Terror in the Dollhouse!
(Old Europa Café: OECD110)
 |
Njurmannen was the very first project in which Lina of Deutsch Nepal was involved, circa 1990! This CD album contains the most part of their long time out of print LP "Reality Adventures" plus some stray material from compilations and seven inch vinyl and one previously un-released track!Moderately catchy, off kilter, gothic pop tunes meet electronic gamelan meets Russian poetry in outer space... Or something like that. There are definitely soem elements of Neutsch Nepal present here, but on a whole, I found more similarities to Sever Heads than anything else. Not for everyone, but some cool material nonetheless.. $15.99

Nocturne - Fleisch und Metall
(Steinklang Distro: SKD17)
 |
Presented in a special, 7" sized 20 page booklet "Fleisch Und Metall" ( "Meat And Metal" ) is a conceptual album from French Industrial / Noise act Nocturne. Performed in an old ruined factory ( with accompanying 20 page booklet featuring pictorial impressions ) this is a very organic and ice cold album with complex sound structures and samples amidst banging machine outbursts, churning factory din, and metallic rhythms. Good, hard, %100 industrial music. An additional 11minute video brings a challenging hommage to this work accompanied by an amazing Industrial soundtrack.. $17.00
|
Nocturne - Kapitulation
(StateArt: SA022)
 |
WWII-inspired Dark Industrial, not far from the likes of Les Joyaux de la Princesse. Drones, obsessive percussion and noises are used as backdrops for some rather controversial speeches.. $12.99
|
Nocturne - Terroriser Manipuler Convaincre
(Old Europa Café: OECD082)
Concept album built around the figure of Doctor "Mabuse" the anti-hero of Norbert Jacques's novel, the genius of crime and chaos, the genius of finance in a slow falling world in the first part of 1900 . Slow moving tracks using all analogue equipment mixed with sounds from the beginning of the last century and many samples in German taken from the legenadry movie, as well as french vocals. Brooding soundscapes with low level frequencies and grinding, monolithic drones. Develops nicely, getting more tension filled and oppressived as it goes. Nocturne initially started as sort of a Les Joyaux de la Princesse rip off, and its nice to see them develop their own identity. Oversized 7" cover plus inserts.. $14.99
Nordvargr - Evolution 2CD
(Old Europa Café: OECD116)
 |
This is the new double album, and possibly the last, that will be released as Nordvargr. Henrik has expressed that he has nothing left to give as a darkambient composer, so this might be his final stand (I believe he also mentioned that he thought this was his best release). Disc one of Evolution is firmly rooted in classic Nordvargr territories -darkambient but with a slight MZ. 412 touch, as it has some more bombastic and noisy elements to it than what we are used to hearing from him. Disc two is divided in two parts - first 8 tracks from the AVART sessions ("Music for Movement"). Part two is four tracks which are more "elektronika"-styled, and show another side of his personality.Evolution is best described in Nordvargr´s own words:"Evolution contains elements of music I have recorded over the last ten years as well as completely new material. If you are familiar with my previous albums you will find sounds you have heard before, but in a new setting. But Evolution is not to be confused with a "best of" album - it is a distilled and refined album of my inner visions and feelings, filtered through my past to show the future, and possibly the end.". $17.99

Nordvargr - For the Blood is the Life
(Old Europa Café: OECD097)
 |
Lord Nordvargr is back on Old Europa Café - and this time hes looking for blood ! Musically what we have here is an album of the finest dark ambient : Yet this release also contains many other elements that usually dont get served by our household Swede : rhythmic arrangements, faint melodies that flow in and out of perception and the distinct sound of old 78rpm acetate records! Composed by Henrik Nordvargr Björkk during the winter of 2006 / 2007, this is his tribute to old folklore, myth and mysteries around vampirism - a musical plunge into cold nights, abandoned castles and forgotten entities.. $15.35
|
Nordvargr - Helvete
(Eternal Pride: EPP013)
 |
The newest creation from Villa Bohult, of the Nordvargr family burial vault. This time the cursed poet Wrest from the USBM Leviathan Cult and Drakhon (Beyond Sensory Experience, MZ. 412) have joined the night sessions of the never sleeping Swedish zombie. Helvete is pure overwhelming darkness and ice-cold all-filling terror. Meditative and sinister dark ambient rhythms are filled with the ominous whispers of Wrest and Drakh; deep and lengthy drones as well as the charming atmosphere of Swedish industrial decadence.. $13.33
|

(Essence Music: ESS008)
 |
The Nordic giant purveyor of modern dark ambient death drone sounds strikes again on Essence Music! This time Mr. NORDVARGR leaves behind the detailed abyssal land of haunting minimalistic atmospheres found on Vitagen, released under his full name Henrik Nordvargr Björkk and moves towards the blackest side of the drone doom micro cosmos.A grim place where, sitting on the throne, he commands the crushing, ear splitting and slow motion processed guitar blasts that emerge from the depths of the pitch black ambience background. Cavernous rumbles, disembodied voices and disturbing malfunction machines play the role and prepare the terrain for one of the most demonic axe attacks to come!Presented in our custom 6-panel digisleeve packaging with stunning artwork by Stephen OMalley (Sunn O))), Khanate) and photography by Seldon Hunt.. $14.00

Nordvargr - Pyrrhula
(Cold Spring: CSR98CD)
 |
Partly based on an old Swedish folktale, Pyrrhula ("doomlord") is a pitch black journey into utter darkness. This is a tale of foreboding doom... a portent of dark times to come... a blight on the face of this earth. These eight Black Ambient / Doom / Droneworks were brought forth from the abyss of Villa Bohult exclusively for Cold Spring and contain the malevolent vocals of Lord Nordvargr himself!. |
Nordvargr - The Dead Never Sleep
(Old Europa Café: OECD073)
 |
Another release unleashed from the evil Bohult cellar. Dark as night ambience with an occult-ish edge, utilizing elements of glitch amidst blackened, minimalist atmospheres. Theres something moving in the basement and Im not sure you want to know what it is.. $14.33
|
Nordvargr - Untitled Navigations I
(Beast of Prey: BOP6.5)
 |
Untitled Navigations I was recorded live in the Villa Bohult studio, and is one massive ambient piece of slow moving darkness. As the soundscape evolves, rythmic patterns appear and merges with the crackling of broken records and deep resounding frequencies. Partly based upon Nordvargr´s previous attempts to alter sleep patterns, this recording also contains theta/delta waves, but the reason for this is not revealed. Untitled Navigations I is presented exactly as it was performed, without any overdubs or post production. Prepare for another dark journey into the mind of the nordic master of darkness. Unconventional release in special white cardboard with silver printing. Unusual shape of the package that folded makes 150mm x 150mm size. Inside there are 3 different inserts showing winter landscapes. All very snowy and icy, handmade and numbered to 300 copies.. $13.49
|
Nordvargr/Drakh/Klier - The Less You Know, The Better
(Old Europa Café: OECD111)
 |
Re-stock. Three way collaboration between 2 MZ.412 members (Nordvargr and Drakh of course) and American dark, minimalist practitioner Cordell Klier. Flowing, atmospheric textures and drones with elements of glitch, rhythmic electronica, and haunting deep space ambience.. $14.99
|
Nordvargr/Surachai - A Wilderness of Cloades
(Old Europa Café: OECD133)
 |
What began as a mutual correspondence turned into an immediate respect and eventually a sickness and obsession that resulted in this album. The two artists, NORDVARGR who hails from the depths of Sweden's wintered wastelands, and SURACHAI from the frozen concrete jungles of Chicago, explored new sonic territory and claimed them as their own. Their shared knowledge of process and inspiration gave way to a smothering environment populated by long shadows and empty cities...dark electronic soundscapes with insectile and alien noises, ominous orhcestral undercurrents, unsettled frequencies, and ominous glitches suggestive of something gone awry. While others sleep and hibernate, the one's haunting dreams weave on the sunless winter days. Lmtd 300 copies, which I suppose dictates the price.. $16.66
|
Nosens - The Final Step CDr
(Self-released: CPG01)
 |
I get a lot of unsolicited e-mails from people on myspace asking me to carry their stuff for mailorder. Most of the time I don't reply just because the material is utter crap. But in the case of Nosens, I thought there was something here and the price was cheap so, why not? 9 tracks of ambient orchestral with some eerie noises and melodies and a sort of gothic victorian horror feel to it that makes it interesting.. $6.00

The triumphant return of the incredible, 'magical', November Novelet. 12 wonderful new 'pop' songs, melancholic and full of angst. The minimalistic analogue foundation combines with electric vibraphone and 8-bit surrealism transformed into sound. Simple, but amazingly catchy synthesiser melodies and the ethereal, yet gloomy voice of Mrs. Arafna melt into a fragile beauty with emotional depth. Slow pieces - tinged with a breath of experimentation, result in a multi-facetted, and at the same time very balanced, Angst Pop album. "Magic" comes presented in a Deluxe Digipak. One of those records that sounds good right away, but by the fourth or fifth spin, just has you shaking your head at it's pure brilliance. NN, like all Arafna projects, doesn't disappoint. A MUST.. $18.50
