Has a dreamy, sort of liquidous and drugged quality to it, with spacey tones that seem to probe and permeate every nook and cranny of my tiny rat brain. Took a few spins to grow accustomed to it, but maybe because it's so different than what I was expecting.. $14.50

As corny as it sounds, whenever I listen to to Fjernlys, I always think of a stream of crystal blue water gently drifting through an otherwise brightly lit, all white, completely stark and vacant room. Latest release from this somewhat prolific German act comes as a joint release between Mask of the Slave and The Tourette Tapes. 8 tracks of dark, obscure sounds, factory drones, and effects laden atmospheres, mostly staying within the more ambient realm of things (by Flutwacht standards for sure) , with occasionally venturing into something a bit more "industrial". After searching for an old Folkstorm recording in his vaults, Nordvargr discovered more unreleased material than he was looking for: old recordings from 1997 and 1998, all previously unreleased! Now, after more than 10 years, these old recordings see the the light of day. This is all harsh gritty oldschool Folkstorm, served up fresh and carefully remastered from the original analogue tapes. Also included are the four tracks that were intended to be released as a spilt CD with LHD. Judging by current sales depletions, I think I probably bought too many of these, so going to take a pro-active approach and post it down while it's still fresh.. $5.00

Tunes for the wounded can be considered a lament. It is a defamatory accusation to the world and its suffering. Foundation hope lodges complaints through gritty ambient-industrial structures, broken sounds and despairing moods. Always without losing touch with the beautiful and melodic. Always with that tiny bright spark of hope, overshadowed by doubt and cynicism. This successor to The Faded Reveries is a little more harsh. Incorporated are distorted guitar drones, tape-decks, broken strings and noisy outbursts. After the highly acclaimed demo tape “Losid vo Bärge ond Tal”, the FRÄKMÜNDT debut album “Urbärglieder” is released on Steinklang/ Percht: “Urbärglieder” is the amazing and unique debut CD of the Swiss Ur-Folk project FRÄKMÜNDT which was born out of the idea to revive old sagas and nearly forgotten songs and atmospheres of the alpine regions of Switzerland. Performed in alemannic central-Swiss dialect, the songs on “Urbärglieder” simulate a journey through landscapes and sagas of the quaint regions of Switzerland. They let you chase through stormwinds with the wild hunt at mount Pilatus or stroll under the paintings of the danse macabre over the Spreuerbridge in Lucerne. One can meet the devil in the Schöllenen gorge and follow the alpine herdsmen during their sad walk down to the valleys in autumn. The album is alternated by two sound-accentuated sagas and two atmospheric pieces, letting one share the horrors of the ghost-house in Stans and the mythical ambiance inside the Mondmilchloch cave. On “Urbärglieder”, acoustic guitars, accordion, violin, flutes and various percussion instruments generate melancholic melodies full of nostalgia, but also rousing hymns which invite to dance. The album is very diverse and never gets boring. Without exaggerating, this is truly something new which was never heard before: Ur-Folk at its best! FRÄKMÜNDT is definitely the originator of this sound. The album has a playing time of 67 minutes and it was mastered at Luftschutzkerker/ Switzerland.
